Default NFL preview Oct 15-16.2006.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Buffalo at Detroit

JP Losman and the Buffalo Bills travel to Ford Field on Sunday, Oct. 15, to take on the Detroit Lions. After a disappointing 5-12 season last year, the Bills are hoping Losman can succeed in leading the offense led by RB Willis McGahee and WR Eric Moulds. Lions head coach Rod Marinelli has handed the starting quarterback job to veteran Jon Kitna after the team gave up on Joey Harrington. Many sportsbooks believe the Lions will finish near the bottom of the NFC North Division, while the Bills are projected to finish last in the AFC East. Look for the Lions to be sportsbook favorites over the Bills.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Carolina at Baltimore

Jake Delhomme and the Carolina Panthers travel to M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 15, to face the Baltimore Ravens. Delhomme has many weapons to utilize in the Panthers offense, especially RB DeShaun Foster and WR Steve Smith. Combined with their stingy defense, many sportsbooks have listed the Panthers as favorites to win the NFC South Division. The Ravens offense has been revitalized with the arrival of Steve McNair at QB, and many sportsbooks believe McNair could help the Ravens challenge for the AFC North Division title. Baltimore should be a slight sportsbook favorite in this matchup.

Sunday, Oct. 15
NY Giants at Atlanta

Eli Manning and the New York Giants travel to the Georgia Dome on Sunday, Oct. 15, to face the surprising Atlanta Falcons. Manning has shown more maturity and patience in his second NFL season, which has helped the offense be more consistent. The Falcons have been very impressive early on this season as their running attack, led by QB Michael Vick and RB Warrick Dunn, has been nearly unstoppable. Many sportsbooks have the Giants and Falcons finishing at the top of their divisions, and the Falcons will be slight sportsbook favorites at home.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Houston at Dallas
The Battle for the Lone Star State will take place on Sunday, Oct. 15, as the Houston Texans travel to Texas Stadium to face Terrell Owens and the Dallas Cowboys. Head coach Gary Kubiak has promised to open up the Texans' offense this season, and the Texans have responded. With the arrival of Owens, many sportsbooks believe the Cowboys could now contend for the NFC East Division title. Look for the Cowboys to be sportsbook favorites over the Texans in this game.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Tennessee at Washington
Head coach Jeff Fisher and the Tennessee Titans travel to FedEx Field to face the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Oct. 15. The Titans have turned to rookie Vince Young at quarterback. The Redskins have also struggled early on this season as RB Clinton Portis has been fighting an injured shoulder. If Portis can stay healthy, the Redskins should challenge for the NFC East Division title. Look for the Skins to be sportsbook favorites over the Titans at home.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Cincinnati at Tampa Bay
Carson Palmer and the high flying Cincinnati Bengals travel to Raymond James Stadium to face the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Oct. 15. With Rudi Johnson running the ball and Chad Johnson catching passes, the Bengals' offense can move the ball up and down the field in a hurry. The Bucs defense has struggled early on this season, and QB Chris Simms may be out for the season after having his spleen removed. Sports betting fans know that the Bucs are very tough to play at home, but they could be slight sportsbook underdogs in this matchup.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Philadelphia at New Orleans
Head coach Andy Reid leads the Philadelphia Eagles into the newly renovated Superdome to face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Oct. 15. With the Terrell Owens controversy behind them, many sports betting fans believe the Eagles could be the team to beat in the NFC East Division. Rookie RB Reggie Bush has shown flashes of brilliance early on in the season, but the Saints still have many holes on both sides of the ball. Many sportsbooks in the preseason had listed the Saints as the favorites to finish last in the NFC South Division, and the Saints may be sportsbook underdogs in this contest despite a fast start.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Seattle at St. Louis
Shaun Alexander and the defending NFC champion Seattle Seahawks travel to the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday, Oct. 15, to face the St. Louis Rams. With Alexander signed to a long-term contract and steady Matt Hasselbeck leading the offense, many sports betting fans are betting on a return trip to the playoffs for the Seahawks. RB Steven Jackson is now the main man in the Rams backfield, while Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce are still a dangerous 1-2 combination at wide receiver. Look for the Seahawks to be slight sportsbook favorites over the Rams on the road.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Miami at NY Jets
Daunte Culpepper and the Miami Dolphins travel to Giants Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 15, to face Chad Pennington and the New York Jets. Culpepper has started out this season very slowly and needs to pick up his play if the Dolphins want to make the playoffs. Pennington has played brilliantly early on this season, showing that he is fully recovered from his shoulder injuries. Before the season started, the Dolphins were picked by many sportsbooks to challenge for the AFC East Division title, while the Jets were slated to finish last. However, with Miami’s early struggles, the Jets may be sportsbook favorites in this matchup.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Kansas City at Pittsburgh
Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Kansas City Chiefs at Heinz Field on Sunday, Oct. 15. Many sports betting fans are still wondering if Roethlisberger is fully recovered from his offseason surgeries, as he has struggled in his early season appearances. The Pittsburgh defense will have its hands full trying to stop the Chiefs running attack, led by RB Larry Johnson. The Steelers are one of the sportsbook favorites to win the AFC North Division title and will be sportsbook favorites to beat the Chiefs in this game.

Sunday, Oct. 15
San Diego at San Francisco
LaDainian Tomlinson and the San Diego Chargers travel up the coast to Monster Park to face Alex Smith and the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Oct. 15. If new starting QB Philip Rivers steps up and plays well, many sports betting fans believe the Chargers could challenge for the AFC West Division title. The 49ers have looked much better than last season, as QB Smith has played much better than he did in his rookie season. The Niners still have a long ways to go and will be sportsbook underdogs in this matchup.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Oakland at Denver
Head coach Mike Shanahan and the Denver Broncos host traditional AFC West rival Oakland on Sunday, Oct. 15. Many sports betting fans have been unhappy with the recent play of Broncos QB Jake Plummer and have been calling for rookie QB Jay Cutler to take over the starting job. The Oakland Raiders are perhaps the worst team in the NFL this season and have been dismal in their early games. Look for the Broncos to be solid sportsbook favorites at home in this matchup.

Monday, Oct. 16
Chicago at Arizona
Edgerrin James and the Arizona Cardinals host Rex Grossman and the Chicago Bears in the Week 6 Monday night matchup at new Cardinals Stadium. With James in the backfield, head coach Dennis Green now has the legitimate running attack to go along side his high flying passing game, led by Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. The Cardinals will have to work very hard to penetrate Bears' stingy defense, which ranks among the league leaders in fewest yards allowed. Look for the Cards to be sportsbook underdogs at home in this matchup.
