 Culpepper may start
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -Quarterback Daunte Culpepper took a step toward making his Detroit Lions debut in haste.
Culpepper practiced Wednesday as starting quarterback Dan Orlovsky watched with a soft cast protecting his injured right thumb.
The 31-year-old Culpepper, who had retired, signed Tuesday with the winless Lions. He started 11 lackluster games the previous two seasons for Oakland and Miami. He was a star in Minnesota before a knee injury stunted his career in 2005.
Second-year pro Drew Stanton hasn't played in an NFL game and the team does not seem confident in him, leading to the possibility of Culpepper playing Jacksonville on Sunday. Oddsmakers have Detroit as 6.5-point home underdogs Sunday against the Jags.
