Default Houston Texans at Dallas Cowboys Game Notes

Houston Texans - QB Rotation: Matt Schaub, Sage Rosenfels, Shane Boyd, rookie Alex Brink.

Coach Gary Kubiak said he wants to get rookie running back Steve Slaton some playing time with the first team Friday at Dallas. Chris Brown will start against the Cowboys, and Slaton will come off the bench. There's a good chance running back Ahman Green won't play in the rest of the preseason because of the groin injury he suffered against Denver.

The new offensive coordinator is Kyle Shanahan, as 2007 offensive coordinator Mike Sherman is the new head coach at Texas A&M.

Veteran cornerback Jimmy Williams is getting a scope done on his knee, and coach Gary Kubiak said he likely will be out for a significant amount of time.

Dallas Cowboys - QB Rotation: Tony Romo, Brad Johnson, Richard Bartel.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips wants to see the Cowboys clean up the sloppy play that has been present in the first two games. It's possible he will play all of the regulars for the first three quarters Friday. "I do think we need more playing time to come together as a team at this point," Phillips said.

WR depth thin.

Secondary thin. With Terence Newman out with a torn groin muscle, rookie Mike Jenkins will start at left cornerback.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips is calling this "Camp Marshmallow." It's been the school of soft knocks in training camp when it comes to hitting, but Phillips wanted it that way. He didn't want to overwork his team or get players hurt. He feels he got the needed work and has a fresh team steadily building toward the Sept. 7 opener at Cleveland. Phillips believes the team accomplished the mission in camp without full contact or wearing full pads very often.

The Cowboys have committed 16 penalties for 174 yards in those preseason games.

The Cowboys were gone for 25 days, stayed in three different hotels, flew on planes, played two teams and had just two or three days off during that time. So by the time they took the field against the Broncos on Saturday, they knew a charter plane was waiting to fly them home immediately after the game. "I feel like I've been on tour with a rock band. I feel like I've been on tour with a famous singer," Cowboys defensive tackle Tank Johnson said. "I'm ready to get home, get back to my bed and kinda get into a routine of the season. This hasn't been easy. Playing, traveling, unnecessary traveling, but this is how it goes."
