Default GY enters week 2.

Hi guys,

Just signed up to these forums (as these are the only ones not blocked at work ). I'm a recent grad from Virginia Tech and I absolutely love college ball. I've done some small betting in the past but this year I plan to keep track of my picks and share what I can - if anything. I do this mainly for fun and not as a source of income - so I don't have to sweat things out :P I've already done my week 1 picks and I'm 1 for 4 for the record:

South Carolina (-6.5)
UNC (-5.5)
Fresno St (-12.5)
Miami (-3).

I hope to recover from last week and make a better showing this coming week so here it is so far:

Clemson(-2.5) - fairly confident that Clemson will squeak the win after seeing BC struggle against a lower than average CMich team.

Georgia (-3) - Georgia looked VERY good (although to a div II team) and I see them rolling at SC, who didn't have as stellar offense as I thought it would be. Also Georgia's defense is much better than Miss St - as far as that they'll last all 4 quarters, so this should be a really good test of SC's offense.

More to come once I look around some more.

Cheers
-GY

SC's performance all depends on if Mitchell will play at QB, they played that True freshman for a while and he just wasn't getting it done. However, SC's defense is quality and I don't see Georgia's Offense getting too many points this weekend.

Just my 2 cents.

Welcome aboard and Good luck!!!

Well both my lines increased by half a point so it seems like I'm in a general consensus... if thats a good thing who knows but it doesn't look like any trap.

Added N Mexico -8 over N Mexico St - just a simple fun one that I always miss the previous years.

I've been eying the Michigan St -25.5 over E Michigan. Does Michigan St have as much explosive offense as years past? This one seems to be tempting to me after seeing E Mich suffer a pretty bad loss to Ball St, another craptastic school.

Another one I've been looking at was LSU -15 over Arizona. I'd like to hear something about Arizona's D - another tempting one.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Hope to make this a fun season

Cheers

u r just doing it for fun...so no big deal. i would think hard about laying anything on the sc\georgia game tho. that spread makes no sense because they could easily get equal action with around a td spread. looks like one of those games where the spread will rise all week as people load up on the dogs...then it will move bigtime right before the game in sc's favor as the big boys unload on sc. i see one like that which makes no sense and looks so easy and i just assume that someone knows something that i dont and leave it alone. i like to look for the good teams who letdown and played bad week 1...u can usually get a good value on them the next week. seems like every year people unload on the teams that looked great week 1...and get blasted week 2. anyways...my opinion. good luck with whoever u take...and welcome. i just joined last week and this seems like a pretty good spot to talk ball and hash out picks. no negative posts really...and a lot of helpful posters.

Thanks for the welcome, Big.

It is for fun, but don't get me wrong - there is money riding on my picks to keep me kosher

You may be right about loading up on the SC game, and I've talked with people who told me the SC/Georgia games are always weird in the fact that they are surprisingly close, but I think Georgia will squeak this one if it isn't a blowout. I'm glad I caught this at 3 though.

Cheers

Michigan St.'s Offense should be a lot better than it was last week, and Eastern Michigan is straight up bad, however it is an in state rivalry and Eastern M will surely be pumped on D. Wouldn't touch that one myself but if I had to pick I would still take MSU to win by 28.

Still on SC though...

Did some additional thinking and added some plays:

Michigan St -25.5 over E Michigan. 2 big factors here: 1) Michigan St usually blows teams like Emich every chance they get. I have no clue what happened in the Idaho game but I think they won't let this happen with EMich. 2) EMich is god awful apparently shown in the BallSt game and i see this game going at least 4 tds. I don't think the Emich, Cmich, Wmich teams consider it a rivalry unless the 2 of the 3 teams are paired up, so that factor seems like a moo point to me IMHO.

LSU -15 over Arizona. Let's face it, the Arizona team is up and coming under Stoops, but I don't think Arizona can match the offense of LSU especially with LSU's decent defense. I don't imagine LSU winning by 30 or so, but I think 20 is definitely in the realm of this team no matter how good Arizona's D is. Also a LSU home game, where LSU's home fans are quite rowdy, making for a great game for LSU. They smashed La Lafayette, they're going to smash Arizona.

May add some more if early ones go well, but here are my thoughts -not plays:

+8 Wyoming over Virginia: Being a VT man I'm happy to see the cavs do very poorly this year. I'm going to have to give this one to UVA, but I think it will be within 1 TD if not an upset.

+27.5 CMichigan over Michigan: I talked with my Michigan gf and she told me that everyone in the state is a joke (including MichSt :P) Although it's pride, I don't see additional bitter feelings over a "rivalry" here so again a moo point. Michigan didn't cover last week against Vandy, they won't cover this week against CMich - an underrated team in my opinion, shown in the BC game. I can't bet this game since it would be rooting against the gf... but I really really want to

-4.5 Indiana over BallSt: This seems like a nice win for Indiana for the few that they'll get all season and they won't let this opportunity slip. Ball St is a bad team even though they blew out E Mich, but let's face it - they won't come close. Don't know too much about BSt home games but that's why I'm thinking the lower than where it should be.

I'm not going to bet this one but just wanted to point it out:
-28 Arkansas over Utah St: Home crowd of Arkansas should get this blowout started very early. Not to mention the new starter freshman Mustain. Perhaps a Heisman candidate in the upcoming years? This guy was very impressive in the 4th quarter against USC, aside from the pick, but he was composed and drove the ball down the field like a true qb. Anyways, I'd like to see the highlights of this game.

Maybe more to come if some lines move, but we'll see... GL to everyone this weekend!

Cheers

Stupid Clemson defense and special teams.... can they not figure out how to pooch kick a damn kickoff when they constantly keep returning it to the 50. And how in the world do you miss an extra point in overtime....... This game was a total heartbreaker.

Ugh, New Mexico gave up a TD at the end to ruin the cover, which I caught really high, but it was meant to be a historic play - where NM always covered, but not this year.

The MichSt game gave me a scare in the first half, but then they turned it up to blow out the terrible team, so they got it done

The only solid game for my picks was LSU.

People gave me doubts over the Georgia game, but after watching the game, I thought this was going to happen when Georgia brought their defense to SC.

I'm 3 for 5 this past weekend making me 4 for 8 for the season, slightly better

Hope people did well this weekend.

Cheers

yeah...the georgia game was never really in doubt after the kickoff. line was kinda funny tho and scared me off. and yes...you got hosed bigtime in the n mexico game...that was sick. good calls tho man...you were pretty much right on as far as your calls. not always gonna have things go your way...and you can be on the right side and still lose sometimes. just keep putting in the work and making good calls...it will be a good year. good luck week 3 man.
