Greetings to all,
Well, the seasons finally here. Just a quick note to all who don't know me. I like to write a little something to back up my picks, but sometimes time is not on my side. A little insite on my write ups. I have alot of stats coming to me via the net and including great help from my friend Mike. Looking forward to a great season. Here we go.
San Diego St. -2 vs UTEP
This is by far my strongest college football play of the day. SDG St. is just to loaded at the skill position, particularly running back. They have any one of four backs that could start for most college programs and Long has brought a new attitude to the Aztecs. O'Connell and Hamilton give what I feel will be a nice balanced attack against a Miner defense in the rebuilding stage. Injuries and suspensions help us a lot tonight. The Miners are not going to be 100% tonight. Tight end Casey Mauch and linebacker Emeri Spence were suspended for the opener for violating team rules. Even though Long threw for more than 10,000 yards in his Iowa career, that doesn't necessarily mean he's totally in love with the passing game. San Diego State has four good running backs, starting with junior tailback Lynell Hamilton. If the Aztec defense can have any positive measure of sucess tonight against Palmer, I feel we have a more than fair advantage in winning this selection.
Iowa St. - 9 vs Toledo
ISU is a solid 19-2 SU and 9-4 ATS all time against the MAC Conference, and they won and covered 5 of their 6 home games a year ago. In fact, the Cyclones have gone a stellar 9-3 SU and 7-3 ATS in Jack Trice Stadium the Last 2 seasons. Toledo Head Coach Amstutz has a very fine squad returning in 2006, but it's without the programs all time career-passing leader Bruce Gradkowski who moved on to the NFL. His offense returns eight starters from a year ago, and has some fine skilled position players and a solid Offesive Line. However, what it doesn't have is an experienced field general. Clint Cochran only got in one start a year ago, and played his role during mop up duty. That one start saw the Rockets get pummeled at Fresno State to the tune of 44-14. Now, he'll be facing a much less experienced Cyclone stop unit, but it is of Big 12 caliber nonetheless and is fast. ISU on the other hand has a tremendous offense with an exciting QB leading them by the name of Bret Meyer. He?s thrown for over 4800 yards, rushed for nearly 1000, and has a TD/INT ration of 29-16 in his two years as the Cyclones starting QB. Ames is a very tough place to go into and succeed. Toledo will have a hard time executing on either side of the ball early, and might find itself to far down to make any type of comeback late in the game. Look for the ISU offense to control this game form the opening kick-off, and rally the Cyclones to their first home win and cover of the year.
Did not get to post this one it time but also liked..........
