TV College Football This week There’s no rest for the wicked when you’re someone who likes to wager on college football.
The games are coming fast and furious as the season progresses. It’s no longer just a Saturday thing – bettors can find a college game nearly every night of the week. And that’s just how we like it.
Week 7 college action delivers a lot of important games that, while not traditional rivalries, should help bettors sort out contenders from pretenders in the BCS conferences. Wednesday, Oct. 10
Navy Midshipmen at Pittsburgh Panthers (-4)
8 p.m. ET, ESPN
Both the Middies and the Panthers will be well-rested for this mid-week meeting in the Steel City. Navy and Pitt haven’t met on the football field since 1989. Thursday, Oct. 11
Florida State Seminoles at Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+6)
7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
It’s a quick turnaround this week for both teams as they come into this pivotal ACC clash on just four days rest. FSU stumbled to another victory on the weekend, beating N.C. State 27-10 without ever really convincing. Last season the Demon Deacons handed FSU its biggest loss – 30-0 in Tallahassee. Friday, Oct. 12
Hawaii Warriors at San Jose State Spartans (+17 1/2)
8 p.m. ET, ESPN
Hawaii QB Colt Brennan limped off the field in the first half after taking a hard hit, and returned to play only one more series in a 52-37 win over Utah State. Much will be made of his fitness as the 6-0 Warriors gear up to play an improved San Jose team in WAC action. Saturday, Oct. 13
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Miami Hurricanes (-3)
noon ET, ESPN
The Yellow Jackets were a Ramblin’ Wreck in the first half at Maryland last Saturday, the same time frame in which the Hurricanes were an unnatural disaster at North Carolina. Both teams lost and need a bounce-back win at the Orange Bowl. Illinois Fighting Illini at Iowa Hawkeyes (+3 1/2)
Noon ET, ESPN2
Iowa has been the bowl-bound team and Illinois the conference doormat for most of this decade. Week 6 confirmed what’s been brewing for a while: the times, they are a-changin’ in the Big Ten. Central Florida Knights at South Florida Bulls (-11)
Noon ET, ESPNU
The amazing story of South Florida’s season continued last weekend when they pulled out a 35-23 win over Florida Atlantic. SFU improved to 6-0 for the first time in the program’s 11-year history. A tricky game against the Golden Knights – who ran East Carolina close last weekend – awaits in Week 7. LSU Tigers at Kentucky Wildcats (+9)
3:30 p.m. ET, CBS
LSU pulled off a remarkable 28-24 victory over the Florida Gators last weekend, continuing their bid to become the No.1 team in the country. Now they face another tough test in the form of a Wildcats team led by one of the best quarterbacks in college ball, Andre’ Woodson. Boston College Eagles at Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+14)
3:30 p.m. ET, NBC
The Eagles have soared to a 6-0 start for the first time in 65 years behind the unstoppable arm of quarterback Matt Ryan. Notre Dame lost their opening five games of the season, but face BC on a high. The Irish landed their first win – a 20-6 upset of UCLA – on Saturday. Wisconsin Badgers at Penn State Nittany Lions (-5 1/2)
3:30 p.m. ET, ABC (regional)
Wisconsin let the Illini run wild last week while the Nittany Lions did quite a bit of running themselves at Iowa. Can the Badgers justify their ranking by actually stopping someone? Find out in Happy Valley. South Carolina Gamecocks at North Carolina Tar Heels (+6)
3:30 p.m. ET, ABC (regional)
Both Carolina schools proved quite a bit in Week 6. South Carolina’s win over a top-10 Kentucky squad received a lot more press, but the Tar Heels’ first-half dismantling of Miami served notice that UNC is no one’s pushover anymore. Arizona Wildcats at USC Trojans (-22)
3:30 p.m. ET, ABC (regional)
The Wildcats’ spread offense – dubbed “Air Zona” – couldn’t save them in a 31-16 loss to Oregon State last weekend. In Week 7 Arizona will face a USC team reeling from a shock 24-23 loss to Stanford – the Trojans’ first defeat of the season. Texas A&M Aggies at Texas Tech Red Raiders (-8)
3:30 p.m. ET, ABC (regional)
The Aggies had a nightmare first half in their last game, trailing Oklahoma by 17 points at the break. But they produced a dominant second-half display in a 24-23 victory. They’ll need to show that character again this week when they travel to Lubbock to clash with the Raiders, fresh from a 42-17 win over Iowa State. Connecticut Huskies at Virginia Cavaliers (-3)
3:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU
UConn didn’t play last weekend and should be well rested for the trip to Virginia. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, took their fifth consecutive conference win by the narrow margin of 23-21 over Middle Tennessee State. Both teams are unbeaten in their respective conferences, so something has to give. Georgia Bulldogs at Vanderbilt Commodores (+7)
6 p.m. ET, ESPN2
Both schools got their butts whipped on the road last week and will look to make amends on Saturday. The Dawgs are still red about last year’s upset loss at Sanford, but it’s homecoming weekend at Vandy. The Dores would do well to deliver another big win in front of the school’s wealthy alums. Oregon State Beavers at California Golden Bears (-14)
7 p.m. ET, Versus
Cal took a well-deserved weekend off after its win at Oregon in Week 5. The Bears now host Oregon State for a homecoming of their own in Berkeley. The Beavers got their act together against Arizona last week after dropping their first two Pac-10 games. Louisville Cardinals at Cincinnati Bearcats (-10 1/2)
7 p.m. ET, ESPNU
The Bearcats overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Rutgers 28-23 on Saturday and cement their place in the top 25. The visit of struggling Cardinals (3-3) offers Cincinnati a great chance to go 7-0 for the season and climb higher in the rankings. Auburn Tigers at Arkansas Razorbacks (-3)
7:45 p.m. ET, ESPN
The Tigers stunned the Florida Gators 20-17 the last time they featured in prime time, and followed that up with a solid win over Vanderbilt in Week 6. Auburn will try to a build on its 2-1 start in the SCC with a victory over the Razorbacks. Colorado Buffaloes at Kansas State Wildcats
9:15 p.m. ET, ESPN2
The Buffaloes followed up a 27-24 upset victory over Oklahoma with a solid win against Baylor. Colorado is now 4-2 for the season after a poor start. The school leads the Big 12 at this early stage, and a victory over the Wildcats would set it up nicely for a massive conference clash against KU in Week 8. Sunday, Oct. 14
Nevada Wolf Pack at Boise State Broncos
8 p.m. ET, ESPN
Boise State hosts its second straight Sunday night game hoping a repeat of last year’s 38-7 win in Reno is in the cards. Nevada is scoring a ton of points, but can the Wolf Pack stop anyone?
