Tuesday Picks Golden State vs. Atlanta, Take Golden State Warriors
Golden St. is back to full strength as Baron Davis has returned to the lineup after missing seven plus games. The Warriors went 2-6 over that span and they are coming off a loss at Minnesota on Sunday but now get to face a team that is struggling even more. Golden St. has dropped five straight against the number and that gives it some value in the line on Tuesday. The Warriors have won five straight in this series including three straight in Atlanta by an average of 9.7 ppg.
The Hawks are having another rough season and they have gone 4-7 in their last 11 games. The four wins may seem respectable but three of those came in overtime while the fourth came by just four points. Their last six wins have been decided by four points or less or by overtime so while there have been some wins, they haven’t been very impressive. Atlanta has one of the worst home defenses in the league as it is allowing opponents to shoot 48.2 percent from the floor.
The Warriors offense has done nothing of late and that has to do with the absence of Davis. They have topped 100 points only once in their last 11 games but they have faced some extremely tough defenses during that stretch. In those 11 games, only one defense was ranked outside the top 15 while eight of those teams have defenses ranked 12th or better with an average defense overall of 8.9. This is easily the worst defense Golden St. has seen since hanging 124 points on Washington.
The Atlanta offense has decent numbers but of late, it has been erratic. The Hawks have surpassed 100 points only five times in their last 14 games and three of those were in overtime while another was against Seattle, the worst defensive team in the NBA. The lack of offense has stepped up the defense for Golden St. as it has allowed 94 points or less in six of its last 10 games including three of five on the road. The rust showed in Davis’ return last time out but the Warriors get back at it on Tuesday. Play Golden St. Warriors One Unit
