Saturday's streaking starting pitchers HOT
Jeff Francis (Colorado Rockies) After a sub-par start to his season, Francis has really turned it on lately. He is 2-0 in his last three starts, allowing just three earned runs over those outings. His solid pitching has under bettors cashing in on his last five trips to the mound. He'll face the Cincinnati Reds tonight with books setting Colorado as a 168 favorite and the total at 9 ½. Steve Trachsel (Baltimore Orioles) The old veteran has baffled batters in his last three starts going 3-0 with a 2.18 ERA. In Trachsels last contest he threw a complete-game five-hitter while allowing just one earned run against the Kansas City Royals. He takes on the Los Angeles Angels tonight, a team he's 2-1 with a 2.97 ERA against in his career. Oddsmakers have the Os listed as +142 underdogs. Justin Germano (San Diego Padres) Germano has emerged out of nowhere as a star for the Padres. In four starts this season he has yet to allow more than two earned runs in any of his outings. He is 3-0 with a remarkable 1.08 ERA. Books are starting to recognize his name, however, as he comes with a hefty 169 price tag against the Washington Nationals tonight. COLD
Mike Mussina (New York Yankees) To find the issues behind the Yanks' struggles look no further than Mussina. The veteran of the staff is in a major slump, losing two of his last three starts while allowing 12 combined runs in the two losses. He has yet to make it past the sixth inning in any of his outings this season. Surprisingly, as bad as hes been, the under is 6-0 in his last six starts. New York is a +124 underdog in Boston tonight with the total set at 10 ½. Chris Capuano (Milwaukee Brewers) Capuanos season has taken a nosedive. Since starting the year 5-0, he has dropped his last four games in ugly fashions. In those four games, he's allowed a total of 16 earned runs while averaging just 3 ½ strikeouts per game. Books dont seem to care about his struggles as they have the Brewers listed as 162 favorites against the Florida Marlins tonight.
