MLB Texas vs. Detroit
Take Detroit Tigers
The Tigers' recent slide of 22 losses in their last 32 games left them just 1 1/2 games up on the Twins in the Central and just 3 1/2 games ahead of the White Sox heading into last night's game. Carlos Guillen's lead-off HR in the 9th gave Detroit a much-needed win as the team stays 1 1/2 games up on Minnesota plus the White Sox fell 4 1/2 games back with a loss to the Angels. Detroit goes for a two-game sweep of the Rangers tonight. Texas has now lost four of five and at 9 1/2 games back of the A's, has little hope. Kevin Millwood was the AL ERA champ LY but he's just 14-10 with a 4.49 ERA this year. Rookie Justin Verlander has been brilliant against playoff contenders the Angels and Twins in his last two outings, pitching 14 innings while allowing just one ER (0.64) in picking up two wins. That gives him a 16-7 mark on the year (3.19), including an 8-2 home mark (2.83), where the Tigers have won 10 of his 13 starts. Take Detroit. |
