Nippert makes his Major League debut for the Diamondbacks after getting promoted from Double-A Tennessee on Saturday. The 6-foot-7 righty was 8-3 with a 2.38 ERA in 18 starts for the Smokies this year. For the Pirates they are concerned that Williams was beginning to show signs of fatigue, the Pirates had their staff leader in wins skip a start. The extra time off did not work, however, as Williams lasted just two innings last time out in his shortest start of the season. Williams' start Thursday could be his last if he falters.
