Tony Mathew's Free College Basketball Selection for February 6, 2007.

Matchup: LSU vs. Tennessee

Selection: Tennessee -6

Explanation: We will lay the points with Tennessee as they face-off against LSU in Tuesday's College Basketball contest.

The key to a Tennessee victory comes down to the fact that they have the much better offense. In fact, LSU (on the road) is scoring an average of 64.4 points per game, while Tennessee (at home) is scoring an average of only 89.4 points per game. This means that the Tennessee offense is an average of 25 points per game better then LSU.

We also see some trends that points to an ATS Tennessee victory:

Trend #1: LSU is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 overall games.

Trend #2: LSU is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 road games.

Trend #3: LSU is 4-17 ATS in their last 21 games against Southeastern Conference teams.

To say the least, this game has all the signs of a Tennessee blowout win!

Take Tennessee -6!

*OHIO STATE over Michigan....OSU nearly squandered 20-pt. halftime lead in 66-64 win vs. Michigan State Jan. 27, but that kind of comeback
unlikely from offensively-sporadic UM (59 ppg away) that still lacks much on-court leadership . Plus, Wolverines shaky from perimeter
(league-low 32% treys), and they won’t finish many forays to hoop vs. Buckeyes imposing 7-1, 255 frosh Oden (nearly 4 bpg). You pick
your poison vs. high-octane, balanced OSU arsenal (81 ppg at home; 7 avg. between 7 & 16 ppg), so it’s arsenic again for UM on road (5-
14 as away dog last 3+Ys). *OHIO STATE 83 - Michigan 60 RATING - 11

TOLEDO over *Kent State...Compelled to back torrid Toledo, which won & covered its first 7 MAC games through January 30. That’s the
Rockets’ best start in conference play in more than 25 years! Retooling Kent is down several notches from recent 20-win editions,
especially on offense, as Flashes (just 33% beyond arc) haven’t scored more than 65 points vs. a major foe at home TY (thru Jan. 30).
Significant firepower edge to Toledo and terrific senior triumverate of Gs Howell & Ingram and F Valencia (combined 45 ppg). And Rockets
(9 spg) will crank up defensive pressure on TO-prone KSU PG O. Smith. TOLEDO 71 - *Kent State 64 RATING - 10

re-did his site, and frankly it is far more complicated (he is with a bunch of other cappers through Coversexperts--don't know if I can say that or not). Anyway, after entering all my info, and logging in, I had to go through a maze to get my picks. I got them, but it wasn't easy (and it is not clear AT ALL as to how many units the NBA pick is for tonight).

He went 1-2 last night (-4.8 units), and now stands as follows: 48-31-1 since Jan. 7th (+79.1 units in that time). Year to date: +60.5 units. Month to date: +0.2 units.

For Tuesday:

6 units--Providence (-11.5) (this was clearly a 6 unit play)

4 units (??)--Celtics (+11.5) (it was not clear at all how many units this play was)

Al McMordie (Free Pick):

NBA for 02/06/2007

Celtics at Pistons
Prediction: Celtics
Underdogs of more than 10 points are 130-80 ATS if they have at least two days of rest and are coming off three or more losses. With the Celts off 14 straight defeats and rested since playing last Friday, we'll grab the points with the men in green.

Alex Smart (Free Pick):

NHL for 02/06/2007

Wild at Stars
Prediction: Wild
The Minnesota Wild enter this away game playing their best road hockey of the year, thanks to a staunch defense and an offense that takes advantage of their opponents' mistakes in transition. The Wild have won seven of their last eight as visitors largely because of the special attention they give to defense - they've allowed an average of just 1.87 goals per game during that span. Look for that success to continue here this evening against a Stars team that has struggled on offense scoring just 2.3 goals per game in their last nine trips to the ice. Take Minnesota on the moneyline.

Scott Spreitzer (Free Pick):

NCAAB for 02/06/2007

Nebraska at Texas Tech
Prediction: Nebraska
The Huskers are going through some tough growing pains under first-year coach Doc Sadler. They came within one point of knocking off Texas. Then they didn't show up on the offensive end against Kansas and Kansas State. But since then, they found their game and knocked off Missouri in Columbia. Tonight, they're getting too many points from a Texas Tech squad that plays to their opposition. They come out completely focused against the sexy teams on their schedule, but struggle against perceived "beatables", if you will. We expect the trend to remain the same tonight. Nebraska will shock the Red Raiders. Tech can be had in this one by Husker big-man Aleks Maric (17 PPG), who at 6-foot-11 goes unmatched inside. Sadler is also starting to get the most out of his newcomers, Ryan Anderson and Sek Henry, who both came up big at Mizzou. We expect the Huskers to be in several "play-on" situations the rest of the season, and we'll start tonight. Take Nebraska plus the points on Tuesday.

John Fina's Free NBA Selection for Tuesday!

Selection: Boston Celtics +11.5 (-110)

Reason: Put us down on the Boston Celtics +11.5 for our Free NBA Selection on Tuesday. Today the Boston Celtics will be on the road as they take on the Detroit Pistons. We will grab the points with the Celtics! The Celtics have been good this season against the spread when playing on the road (16-7 ATS road record), and will be playing a Pistons team that has struggled against the spread when at home (8-14 ATS home record). The Celtics have already proven that they are the superior team when going up against the Pistons in Detroit. This is shown by the Celtics being 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings against the Pistons (when playing in Detroit). It's also good to note that the underdog is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these teams. In this case, the value is with the road underdog! Take the Boston Celtics +11.5!

Play On: 3* Western Michigan -3

Ohio is 1-8 ATS this year when playing against a team with a losing record. Ohio is 1-5 ATS last 3 years on Tuesdays. Western Michigan is 10-3 ATS since 1997 as a home favorite of 3 points or less or a pick. Western Michigan is 8-0 SU at home this year. Western Michigan is averaging 78.7 ppg at home this year. Western Michigan is beating opponents by an average of 12.5 ppg at home this season. Western Michigan is 4-1 SU and ATS at home vs Ohio since 1997. We'll play Western Michigan for 3 units tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky

Bottom Line sports
last night going 1-2 \
TOP PLAY tonight!!

Play Davidson -13.5 for 3 units
This Davidson team is LIGHTS OUT at home this year! They are 10-1 straight up, and 6-3 against the spread. They have an average margin of victory of 14 points per game. They have been almost perfect in Conference play winning 11 out of 12, losing only to App St, who may be the only team to challenge Davidson for the conference crown. At 20-4, this team is the best team in the Southern Conference, however a slip up in the Con Tourney would mean no NCAA's unless they impress the committe enough to give them an at large bid. That means this team will be playing at their best for the rest of the season. They are on fire right now having won 9 of their last 10 games. They are also one of the best teams in the country against the spread. They are 14-6-1 this year ATS, including a mark of 9-3-1 as the home team. Chattanooga on the other hand is 3-6 this year on the road, and have lost 7 of their last 10 games overall. Davidson has dominated the past meetings with the Mocs at home winning the last 2 by an average of 19 points per game. They beat Chatt at home last year by 25 points, and beat them again this season in Chattanooga by 12. Look for a Blowout in this one as the Mocs do not have the talent to stick with Davidson here. Davidson wins 82-59

Houston Rockets at Memphis Grizzlies
Tuesday, February 6th, 8:05 PM EST

These clubs have gone under in eight of the last 11. Doubtful that Van Gundy will allow his charges to be drawn into a high-scoring game. HOUSTON is 27-14 UNDER in road games as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points over the last 2 seasons. MEMPHIS is 73-49 UNDER vs. division opponents since 1996 and 29-15 UNDER in home games after a non-conference game over the last 3 seasons.

JEFF BENTON

Today's Complimentary Play

Another easy free winner in college basketball on Monday, as Texas A&M avoids the letdown as I said they would and destroys Texas. The comp-play run is now an incredible 148-107-3, including 19-8 with the last 27.

Tonight, I go right back to the college hardwood, where I'm 29-10-1 with free picks this season, and we'll lay some points once again in a rivalry game, this time siding with Ohio State over Michigan.

Two teams headed in opposite directions in this one, as the Buckeyes have ripped off seven straight victories, including back-to-back impressive road wins at Michigan State (63-54) and Purdue (78-60) – two teams that prior to Ohio State’s arrival hadn’t lost on their home floor all season!

Meanwhile, Michigan is really struggling. Since starting off the Big Ten campaign with a 4-1 record, they’ve lost three in a row, not only straight-up, but against the spread, scoring just 58, 61 and 62 points. It’s no coincidence that the Wolverines’ problems started once their schedule got a little tougher. In the last three games, Michigan has faced a pair of Top 25 teams in Wisconsin and Indiana (both double-digit road losses), plus Iowa, which beat the Wolverines 69-62 in Ann Arbor as a 7½-point underdog six days ago.

Let me ask you: If Michigan can’t beat Iowa on its home floor, how is it going to compete at Ohio State against Greg Oden and the bevy of talented youngsters on the Buckeyes’ roster? Answer: They’re not!

Four of Michigan’s last five road games have resulted in double-digit losses, including by 15 points at Indiana, 13 points at Wisconsin, 14 points at Purdue and 37 points at UCLA! And no, the Wolverines didn’t cover the spread in any of those contests. Moreover, they didn’t score more than 62 points in any of those games!

NC State at Georgia Tech
North Carolina State's season appeared to be going down the tubes until two games ago. That's when the Wolfpack knocked off Virginia Tech (70-59) on the road and followed that up with a major upset over North Carolina (83-79) on Saturday. It was the first big win for new coach and former player Sidney Lowe and gives NC State some major momentum heading into tonight's contest with Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets have experienced the ups and downs of a young team. They pounded Clemson (80-62) on Saturday, but prior to that had lost four straight to UNC, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest by an average margin of 12.25 points. Against a hot NC State team, the Vegas line favoring Tech by 10 looks too high according to Dunkel, which has the Wolfpack favored straight up by 1. Dunkel Pick: NC State (+10). LA Clippers at New York
Eddy Curry is giving the Knicks a presence in the low post they haven't had since Patrick Ewing. Curry leads New York in scoring with a career-high 19.5 average and also is averaging a career-best 7.0 rebounds. On Saturday Curry was at his best with 27 points and six rebounds in a 94-86 win at Orlando. Tonight he'll try to take advantage of L.A.'s Chris Kaman, who is coming off a woeful 1-for-11 performance against Toronto on Sunday. The rest of the Clippers were equally bad in a 122-100 loss that was their worst defensive performance of the season.
