say you put $20 on a game, if you win do you get $40...

next say you keep wagering what you win 40,80,160,320 etc..after one game a week for 2 months you would total $5000...this is low risk/high reward considering its only $20 of your own money...would it work this way or am i missing something??

bacardi is right. You are simply talking about parlaying your profits+your original bet. You are wrong to think this is low risk. It is very high risk to bet all your profits like bacardi points out.
To turn 20 into 5000 you need to win nine straight bets (not even taking into account juice, just to keep it simple here). The odds of winning nine straight bets are 1:512.

That would jsut be crazy. Sure you would only have $20 invested, bet without setting a certain percentage aside, you would bust on just one bet and your entire earningd would be gone like that. I think it would be terrible money management.
