Default The weekend wrap for the Sports Bettor:

THE WEEKENDER: 7/30 - 7/31

INTRO:

This ‘Weekender’ we’ve got interesting trivia, cool MLB games, hot NFL props and one of the most amazing stories ever in the ‘Winner’s Circle’

TRIVIA:

Name the only brothers to both win the Cy Young award?
  1. Jim & Gaylord Perry
  2. Joe & Phil Niekro
  3. Dizzy & Daffy Dean
  4. Orlando & Livan Hernandez
*ANSWER AT BOTTOM

MLB:

SATURDAY:

NATIONALS (55-45) 1:20 PM FOX
MARLINS (49-47)
The ‘Nats’, losers of 7 of the last 10 as well as first place in the super strong NL East will try to turn it around when Livan Hernandez (12-4, 3.32) and Jose Guillen (19HR, 55RBI, .301) lead them into the ‘Sunshine State’ to face the Marlins. The ‘Fightin fish’ may be in last place but they are still above .500 and have some great players themselves in Dontrelle Willis (13-6, 3.23) and Miguel Cabrera (23HR, 74RBI, .349)

ANGELS (59-40) 1:20 PM FOX
YANKEES (52-45)
The first place Angels led by Vladimir Guerrero (18HR, 62RBI, .302) are fighting to stay ahead of the red hot Oakland A’s in the fight for the AL West. The Yankees, after a slow start are one game behind first place Boston and every game counts from here on out!

SUNDAY:
D’BACKS (48-53) 2:20 PM WGN
CUBS (51-48)
The D’Backs, while having a losing record are amazingly only three games behind first place San Diego in the NL West. With sluggers like Troy Glaus (20HR, 61RBI) and Tony Clark (16HR, 52RBI, .328) in the lineup three game sis nothing. It’s no secret that the ‘Cubbies’ slugger Derek Lee (32HR, 81RBI, .366) is having a career year but Aramis Ramirez (27HR, 73RBI, .313) is quietly destroying the competition as well.

W/SOX (65-33) 8:05 PM ESPN
ORIOLES (50-48)
It’s put up or shut up time for the Orioles. After leading the AL East for most of the season they have started to fade. Will they revitalize themselves by sending the AL best White Sox packing or take a beating and fade into oblivion for the rest of the season? The White Sox can afford to coast a bit with a 12 game lead in their division, but remain razor sharp.

HOT PROPS:

With the NFL just around the corner we felt it would be a good time to remind you of the hundreds of season futures odds we offer. Here is just a sampling……

WINNERS CIRCLE:

Brendan P. from Baton Rouge, La. Won $3,000 playing ‘Let it ride’ poker when he pulled an inside straight flush!!! Jim was wagering $5 per bet and was dealt the ace, two, three of clubs. The dealer flipped the five of clubs and Jim ‘Let it ride’! The dealer then proceeded to turn the four of clubs giving Jim the inside straight flush for $3,000! Jim said “When the dealer flipped the four I was in shock for a minute, then I literally cried! I took a screen shot of it in case my computer crashed or something and then send it to every friend I have! Wow! Welcome to the ‘Winners circle’ Brendan!
