this young squad, which is led by Coach of the Year candidate Bill Self, took off, winning 19 of its last 22 games, including 12 of its final 13. The Jayhawks have a legitimate shot at winning their fourth conference tourney title and first since 1999.
Cowboys used solid play at the offensive end to dismiss the Cyclones. Oklahoma State shot an impressive 54.0 percent from the floor in the win, and connected on 21-of-32 shots from the foul line. The team did commit 18 turnovers in the nine-point win, but the Pokes made up for their mistakes by dominating the glass, 43-28. Mario Boggan led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Torre Johnson came off the bench to contribute 20 points. JamesOn Curry added 14 points for OSU, while David Monds tallied eight points to go with 10 rebounds. Boggan and Curry have been a solid one-two punch for Oklahoma State this season, as Boggan is posting 14.9 ppg and 5.7 rpg, and Curry adds 13.5 ppg.
As for the Jayhawks, they were simply tremendous at both ends of the floor throughout the majority of the season. Defensively, they allowed just 60.4 ppg while holding the opposition to 36.6 percent shooting from the field. The Jayhawks averaged 5.6 blocks per contest on the season and outrebounded the opposition by 6.2 rpg. Russell Robinson was also an important source of offense for KU this season, averaging 8.8 ppg to go with his team-best 123 assists.
If Oklahoma State can establish Boggan on the inside it could cause KU some problems cause the Hawks just can't play inside D. They need to come out and punch the Pokes in the mouth.....and they will......
