Thursday NCAA Plays #3 Memphis at UAB
Memphis wants to win this one badly especially after Duke dropped there game against FSU last night. If Memphis gets this game and avoids major problems in the CUSA Tourney, Memphis will have all but locked down a #1 seed. On the contrary a win against Memphis would solidify UAB for the tournament even though right now there chances are pretty good.
Winning this game also clinches the CUSA title for Memphis.
Some food for thought:
Memphis is 10-0 on the road and 12-0 in conference this year.
Memphis on the road is 4-0 ATS against an opponent above .500
UAB is 2-3 ATS at home against an opponent above .500
UAB stays in games by bombing three pointers all game and doesn't rely to much on post play. Last game Marvett McDonald scored 39 points with 8 three pointers. That won't be happening again as Memphis is only allowing 30.9% from 3pt range this season and 27% in the last 5. They are 7th in the nation in FG% allowed at 38.4%, so needless to say, UAB wil not come close to scoring their average of 76.3 a game, second only to Memphis 83 ppg. Let's not forget UAB plays decent defense as well allowing 43% from the field.
UAB also lacks on the boards at 27 a game, a quality very much necessary to upsetting Memphis and their athleticism. Take Memphis -4 and play it all the way to 6 if it goes up.
Next Take Memphis/UAB Under 159.5.
These two teams haven't seen a total set this high so far in the 05-06 season. I am going very contrary to the trends here as Memphis is 10-2 OU away, and UAB is 8-1 OU at home, but as I said earlier, most of those totals were in the 130's. If you look at their scoring averages this total is on par. In fact it is exactly there averages combined. However, you will be surprised with the amount of defense played in this one. Take Memphis -2 at the half
I usually pick the halftime when I pick the game, it has saved a loser from being a total loss on many nights.
