Fourth ranked West Virginia travels to Maryland on Thursday night to face the Terrapins on ESPN. West Virginia is 2-0 but was sluggish for a while last week in the win over Marshall. They were down 13-6 before pulling away late to win 48-23. That struggle may have been the reason that West Virginia fell one spot in the AP Top 25 to fourth. SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the favored West Virginia on the Road.
The Mountaineers will look to running back Steve Slaton on Thursday night. Slaton has 255 rushing yards on 40 carries with five touchdowns in 2007. He ran 24 times for 146 yards and three TDs on Saturday. "It was a matter of time before everything took its toll,' said Slaton. The Mountaineers finished with 511 yards. "You have to find out what you are doing wrong and what you can do better," Mountaineers coach Rich Rodriguez said.
Maryland comes into the game having won eight of their last nine games but they have not beaten a Top 5 team in three years. The Terps got by Florida International last week 26-10 but were not impressive. "I think we're better than what we showed," said Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen.
