The biggest test remaining for South Florida this season will take place Thursday night as they travel to take on Rutgers. South Florida is one of the few remaining unbeaten teams in college football and is ranked #2 in the latest BCS poll behind Ohio State. "I get distracted like everybody else, but I try to keep them to a minimum," South Florida coach Jim Leavitt said. "We've only played one game in the Big East, and our goal from the beginning was the Big East championship. And I want to tell you something, it's going to be a barn-burner these next number of weeks.” SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the favorite South Florida on the Road.
Rutgers was expected to be the Big East power this season but has lost two games already this season after being ranked as high as 10th. Rutgers was beaten at home this season by Maryland and Cincinnati. South Florida must win this game against Rutgers but also has to face Connecticut and Cincinnati if they expect to go unbeaten. The Bulls had a season-high 543 yards last Saturday. Quarterback Matt Grothe was 15-of-28 for 212 yards and two touchdowns, and also ran 16 times for 100 yards and two scores. South Florida has also been playing better defense of late and will have to play well on Thursday as they face Rutgers All-American running back Ray Rice. Last season he ran for 202 yards on 35 carries and had two TD’s against the Bulls. Last week Rice had a season-high 196 yards in the Scarlet Knight’s win at Syracuse. South Florida is 1-1 all-time against Rutgers.
