Urban Meyer will coach his last game with the Florida Gators when they face the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Outback Bowl. The latest college football odds for this bowl game have the Gators listed as seven point favorites with the total set at 47.
The Nittany Lions and Gators rank among the nation's Top 10 winningest programs over the past six years as they head into this bowl game. Part of the reason for all of the success at these college football schools is the coaching.
Earlier this year Florida coach Urban Meyer announced that he will be stepping down as coach of the Gators and will be coaching his final game against Penn State. The offense is led by redshirt junior quarterback John Brantley. Brantley has struggled to replace the departed Tim Tebow and passed for 2,020 yards and nine touchdowns with nine interceptions. Freshman quarterback Trey Burton has emerged as a threat to run and pass and runs a version of the Wildcat for the Gators. The Gators offense should have success against a Penn State defense that ranks sixth in total yards allowed in the Big Ten at 352.5 per game.
For as much as the Gators offense struggled, the Lions were worse. Penn State’s offense ranks sixth in the Big Ten in passing with 231.2 yards per game, eighth in rushing with 142.8 yards per game, and ninth in total yards with 374.1 per game. The Gators ball-hawking defense will feast on Penn State. Florida is one of three schools in the nation that has four players with at least three interceptions and eight Gators have at least one interception on the season.
The Gators are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 non-conference games, 7-2 ATS in their last nine games following a loss and 4-1 ATS in the last five bowl games. The Nittany Lions are 2-5 ATS when they play a team with a winning record and 2-6 ATS in their last eight non-conference games.
The Gators win big in the Outback Bowl and send Meyer out with a big win!
