Opening Line: Rutgers -15.5, Total 48.5
The 13th-ranked Scarlet Knights host Navy on Friday in what could be an entertaining offensive show. Rutgers routed Buffalo 38-3 last Thursday night while Navy took care of Temple in their opener last Friday evening. Ray Rice rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns for Rutgers in the opening game. Junior quarterback Mike Teel was 16-for-23 for a career-best 328 yards and two touchdowns. Receiver Tiquan Underwood caught 10 passes for a school-record 248 yards and two TDs. "It's so much easier when you can mix it up, run the ball well and throw the ball down the field," said Teel. SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the favored Rutgers at home.
Rutgers was expected to rout Buffalo and they are a heavy favorite against Navy on Friday. The Scarlet Knights will try show balance again this week on offense. "If I am running the ball, we can really play-action and hit Tiquan over the top on those deep balls," Rice said. "We can obviously get better this season. What you saw (in the opener) was us hitting on both cylinders." In Rutgers’ last four games dating back to last season, the Scarlet Knights have averaged 38 points per game and 464.3 yards per contest. The offense has been effective on the ground and through the air. During the streak, Rutgers is averaging 209.3 yards per game rushing and 255 yards per game passing.
SBG Global Current Line: Rutgers -15.5, Total 48
Teel was 15-for-26 for 215 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-0 victory at Navy last year. Rice had just 93 yards and no touchdowns for the only time last year in the game against Navy.
Navy is looking for its first win over a ranked team since 1985. Navy rushed for 361 yards in beating Temple 30-19 last Friday. Running back White ran for 122 yards on eight carries while quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada had 102 yards on 15 carries. Fullback Adam Ballard ran for two scores. Ballard had an injury last season that forced him to miss the Bowl game but looks back to full strength. "I think he's healthy," said coach Paul Johnson, "He was probably a little rusty."
Last season Navy did not have any success against Rutgers. They were held to a season-low 113 rushing yards. Ballard and Kaheaku-Enhada were held to 34 yards on 28 carries. "Hopefully we'll grow," Johnson said. "Our football team right now is not close to where we were a year ago. We've got a lot of growing to do."
