The Air Force Falcons will take on the Georgia Tech Yellow jackets in the Independence Bowl. The latest college football odds for this bowl game have the Falcons listed as three point favorites over the Yellow Jackets for this exciting tilt.
Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson has brought success to the team and last year they received a BCS bowl bid. Although it is not a BCS bowl bid the yellow Jackets go bowling again for the 14th year in a row. This is the first time they have accepted an invite to the Independence Bowl and bring an impressive record of 22-16 all-time in college football post season play. Johnson is used to playing against the Air Force as he was once the head man with the Navy Midshipmen, and in fact still uses the same offense.
The Yellow Jackets are rank first in the country this season at 327.0 yards per game on the ground. The rushing attack is led by senior quarterback Joshua Nesbitt. He was injured earlier in the year and it is still uncertain if he will suit up for the big game. In limited duty he posted 737 yards and 10 TDs in nine games on the season and would be sorely missed.
Air Force is 9-10-1 all-time in bowl games and will be making their third appearance in the Independence Bowl. The Falcon offense is very productive averaging 30 points a game and 317.9 yards per game on the ground. The Falcons have a two-headed monster in the backfield as Junior tailback Asher Clark is put up 1,001 yards this season, with five touchdowns while, with senior fullback Nathan Walker chipped in with 453 yards and six touchdowns.
The Falcons enter this game in a tough situation as they have struggled as a favorite this year. The Falcons are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games as a favorite and 2-7 ATS in their last nine games as a favorite of 0.5-3.0.
The Yellow Jackets are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog and thrive when they are catching points. They are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games as an underdog of 0.5-3.0 and should always get a look when they are catching points.
Johnson will have the Yellow Jackets ready for the bowl game and has the advantage of being familiar with the offense that the Falcons run. The Yellow Jackets win outright on the field.
