Jacksonville, Florida
The state of Florida will host its third college football bowl game of the day when the Mississippi State Bulldogs battle the Michigan Wolverines in the Gator Bowl. The latest college football odds for this bowl game have the Bulldogs listed as 4.5 point favorites with the total set at 59.5.
Rich Rodriguez will try to silence his many critics when he brings the Wolverines into his first-ever bowl game. Rampant rumors and speculation indicate that Rich-Rod could be done in Ann Arbor if he does not get the bowl victory. This is fueled by the availability of current Stanford head coach, and Michigan alumni, Jim Harbaugh.
Sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson will do his best to make sure the coach keeps his job. Robinson was an early front runner for the Heisman before fading down the stretch, but he did lead an offense that ranked sixth in the FBS with an average of 500.9 yards per game. The Bulldogs will be ready on defense and have had experience playing against mobile signal callers.
The Bulldogs played Auburn and held Cam newton and the offense to just 17 points in one of their best defensive efforts. That intimidating defense is matched by an impressive offense.
Chris Relf is under center for the Bulldogs and passed for 1,508 yards and rushed for another 535 yards while scoring 14 touchdowns on the season. Running back Vick Ballard leads the team with 867 yards and has found the end zone 16 times. When he needs a rest, LaDarius Perkins will carry the rock and anchor a rushing game that averaged 200 yards per game.
The Wolverines are 8-22 against the spread (ATS) in their last 30 games following a SU loss of more than 20 points and 10-26 ATS in their last 36 games overall. The Bulldogs are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0 and will win and cover the number in the Gator Bowl.
