Compass Bowl
January 8th
Birmingham, Alabama

The Pittsburgh Panthers and the Kentucky Wildcats will square off in the Compass Bowl, surrounded by interesting story lines. The latest college football odds for this bowl game have Pittsburgh listed as 3.5 point favorites with the total set at 52.

It all starts with quarterback Mike Hartline of Kentucky who was arrested and then suspended for the bowl game by head coach Joker Phillips. Hartline is coming off his best season as a starter for Kentucky, completing 66% of his attempts for 3,178 yards and 23 touchdowns and is invited to the game to be a “special coach” in his last game as a Wildcat. Kentucky is not the only team with problems as Pittsburgh is looking for a new coach.

Dave Wannstedt is coaching his final game at the helm of the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Panthers thought they had found their new coach in Mike Haywood but he was fired as the Pittsburgh coach before he even coached a game for the Panthers. The Panthers will now search for a replacement after the bowl game.

On the field this game could be very entertaining.

Pittsburgh has a solid ball carrier in Dion Lewis. He had his moments this year as he gained 956 rushing yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He shares time in the backfield with Ray Graham, who gained 832 yards and eight touchdowns. Tino Sunseri is under center and very capable of moving the offense and finished with 2,476 passing yards and 15 touchdown passes.

Even without Hartline under center the Wildcats still have plenty of weapons starting with Randall Cobb. He led the team in receptions with 79 for 955 yards and second in rushing yards, gaining 401 yards on the season. Derrick Locke was the leader in rushing yards with 816 and 10 touchdowns.

The Wildcats are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games as an underdog of 0.5-3.0 and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games as an underdog. The Panthers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite and will get a win for the coach in his last game with Pittsburgh.

Play on Pitt -3.5
