Alabama head coach Nick Saban assumed his team would be playing in the National Championship game, but instead will play Michigan State in the Capital one Bowl. The latest college football odds for this bowl game have the Crimson Tide listed as temp point favorites with the total set at 52.

The Crimson Tide started the year off with aspirations of defending the National Championship, but were soon over shadowed by the Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers in the SEC. The defining moment for the Tide is when they allowed Newton to engineer a comeback win against at home, giving the Tide their third loss of the season.

Meanwhile the Spartans return to Orlando’s Capital One Bowl for the second time in three seasons and will make its fourth straight bowl appearance, trying to cap off a glorious season. The Spartans managed just one loss on the season and grabbed a share of the Big Ten title.

However due to a lower BCS rankings they will be denied the chance to play in a BCS bowl, which gives the Spartans motivation to play well in this game. The Spartans did get some bad news for this game as B.J. Cunningham, will not play in this game after breaking his foot in practice. Cunningham led the team with 50 receptions for 611 yards and nine touchdowns and will be sorely missed, but head coach Mark Dantonio knows how to motivate his team for a big game.

The surprise will be on defense where the Spartans will be able to handle running back Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson out of the backfield. The Spartans have played some bruising backs in the Big ten and will be ready to shut down the run. This will make the Tide offense one dimensional and give the Spartans a shot at the upset.

The Spartans are 6-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last eight games following a win and 5-1 ATS in the last six outings against a team with a winning record. The Crimson Tide are 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0, 1-4 ATS when playing a team with a winning record, and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games following a loss.
