Last year the SEC West had two teams above .500 in the conference. This year they have revamped and reloaded looking to impress in one of the toughest places to play football in the country. The question is what team will rise to the top and take the challenge?

LSU Tigers: The tigers of LSU are off a BCS Championship season dismantling Ohio St. to win it all. Les Miles decided to stay and for good reason with one of the strongest recruiting classes in the country. Don’t look for the defensive line to skip a beat even without Dorsey. They had some off-season issues and will have to fill new key positions but with only three tough road games, you can expect another outstanding season. Projected Finish: First in the West; 11-3
Alabama Crimson Tide: The tide is back and the SEC West should take notice. If not for a late season collapse the Tide would have made an outstanding run in the west. This year the have a very tough end to the schedule but last years collapse and an improved team will help them overcome that. John Parker Wilson is established at the QB spot and ready to make a run for the title in the West. Projected Finish: Second in the West; 9-4

Auburn Tigers: Last year the Tigers cam stumbling out of the gate but finished strong with an impressive bowl win over Clemson. The offensive line had growing pains last year with three rookie linemen but the learning experience will help this year along with six returning starters. The defense line lost Pat Sims to the NFL and it could prove to be their weakness. Tommy Tuberville will have his team ready but they don’t quite have the talent to win the West. Projected Finish: Third in the West; 8-5

Mississippi St: Sylvester Croom made believers of this team and its fans with a good year last year. The schedule helps out this year and this team is chock full of senior’s bringing experience and leadership to the sidelines. The problem is the passing game and they will have to rely on tough defense and a solid running game. They will make moves and but Wesley Carroll and the passing game have too many questions. Projected Finish: Fourth in the West; 8-5

Ole Miss Rebels: The good news for the Rebels is it can only get better. They bring back a team that will have a ton of experience as well as a new head coach in Houston Nutt. They are more talented than most people think and recruit Enrique Davis can make a difference now. The problem is the west is tough and so is the schedule for this club trying to make changes. Projected Finish: Fifth in the West; 6-7

Arkansas Razorbacks: The biggest absence for the hogs will be the backfield with both McFadden and Jones headed to the NFL. That’s not it; they also lose five starters on defense, half the offensive line, and the best wide outs. Bobby Petrino will bring a new philosophy to the team and a great recruit in quarterback Tyler Wilson but this will be a complete rebuilding season. Projected Finish: Last in the West; 5-8
