On Saturday the 2012 Preakness selection is on Bodemeister. In his last trace the Kentucky Derby Bodemesiter ran what would have been suicide splits of 45 and change after 4 furlongs and 1:09 and change after 6 furlongs. Many Derby horses who have run splits like that have finished far behind. Watching the race it was amazing how much this horse had left after dealing with the Trinniberg and Hansen at his throats most of the way. The fact he was beat by a length was far more impressive than the late kick provided by Ill have another who had a perfect trip from the 19 hole. Bodemeisters second place finish was most impressive of any horse, even that of Went the day well who closed like a cannon passing several tired horses. Today there wont be a frenetic pace for Bodemeister to deal with, should he coast to a clear lead and get a breather he may wire the field. The fact that Ill have another will have to change his racing style by staying closer to the lead to press him may hurt in the end. This could open the way for Creative Cause who ran the Whole Derby five wide and still finished just 3 lengths behind. Creative cause finished ahead of both Bodemeister and Ill have another in his career and should be right behind the leaders and could be right there if either of the above two falter. In closing we will back # 7 Bodemeister to win followed by #6 Creative Cause and # 9 Ill have another. Wager as follows
