The Chicago Blackhawks host the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. Chicago is coming off a 5-3 win over Minnesota, while Colorado is coming off a 2-1 loss in Detroit.

Fatigue will be an issue for the Blackhawks on this night, as they will be playing their third game in four nights. They’ve played under the total each of the last five times they’ve faced that situation.

Chicago’s five-goal outburst against Minnesota hides the fact that they have been winning with defense to maintain their current point-streak. The Blackhawks allowed only 1.58 goals per game over their 12 outings.

Colorado’s offense has not travelled well of late. They’ve scored only eight times in their last five road contests, and were 90 seconds away from getting shutout in Detroit on Tuesday.

Because of those offensive struggles, the Avalanche will lean on goaltender Semyon Varlamov more than normal tonight. In three career starts against Chicago, each of which came last season, Varlamov has posted a 1.96 GAA and a .936 save percentage.
