The St. Louis Blues host the Edmonton Oilers on Friday. St. Louis is coming off a 3-0 loss to Chicago, while Edmonton beat Dallas their last time out, 5-1.

Both teams played on Thursday night, so they may not have the legs to get into the ebb and flow of their respective offensive systems.

The Blues in particular have been having trouble finding the back of the net, and injuries are a big reason for that with Vladimir Tarasenko and Andy McDonald on injured reserve. St. Louis has scored only three times in their last four games.

Defensively, they’ve been just fine, limiting opponents to a total of seven goals on 22.0 shots in those games.

There aren’t many people who would question Ken Hitchcock’s ability to implement a strong defensive system, especially after the Blues allowed the fewest goals in the NHL last season. The under is 3-0-1 in their last four home games.

The Oilers’ offense hasn’t travelled well this season. They’ve played under the total in six of their last seven road contests, getting held to two or fewer goals in five of those games.
