The St. Louis Blues host the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. The Blues won each of the first two meetings between these teams last season, with both games played in St. Louis.
A year ago, St. Louis put together the second-best home record in the NHL at 30-6-5, and they did so on the back of terrific system play and solid goaltending, allowing the fewest goals in the league.
The team’s roster remains mostly unchanged, making them a candidate for a run to start the season. A healthy David Perron to start the year will also give the team a major boost in the scoring department.
There are plenty of question marks in Detroit as the team took a big hit on its back-end in the offseason. Nicklas Lidstrom had been one of the top defenseman in the NHL for years before retiring in the offseason.
In addition to his departure, the team also traded away Brad Stuart to San Jose. Last season Detroit had the NHL’s best record at home, but were below .500 on the road.
The home team is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these teams, while the Red Wings ended last season losing nine of their final 11 road games. Take St. Louis.
