The Raiders are a team that desperately needs a win, as they are now 3-6 on the season and on the verge of being out of playoff contention in the AFC. I almost get the feeling that this is a trap game for the Saints, as they invested a lot of energy in beating their division rivals last week at home. New Orleans is also a much different team on the road than they are at home. During the Saints current 4-1 stretch three of those wins have came at the Superdome. They are just 1-3 on the road this season.
Oakland has surprised before in a very similar situation to where we find them in this game. The Raiders opened the season with back-to-back blowout losses against the Chargers (14-22) and Dolphins (13-35), only to beat the Steelers at home 34-31 as a 3.5-point underdog.
What you can’t overlook in this game is how bad the Saints have been on the defensive side of the ball. New Orleans allowed Atlanta to rack up 454 yards of total offense and remain on track to be the worst defense in NFL history in total yards allowed. Oakland’s Carson Palmer leads the 5th ranked passing attack in the NFL at 288.9 ypg and will almost certainly throw for 300+ against a Saints secondary that is allowing a ridiculous 307.3 ypg. BET THE RAIDERS!
