5* NFL Non-Conference Game of the Year on Buccaneers -3
At home and having had a bye week to prepare, expect Tampa Bay to take it to a Kansas City team that will be without its starting quarterback.
Chiefs’ fans wanted Cassel out but they should be careful what they wish for. Cassel led the Patriots to 11 wins in 2008 and took the Chiefs to the playoffs with a 10-win season in 2010. Brady Quinn hasn’t had nearly the success.
Quinn hasn’t started a game in nearly three years and has only completed 52.5 percent of his passes for 1,934 yards with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 15 career games. I don’t know about you but those stats don’t blow me away. The low completion percentage and poor TD/INT ratio especially stick out.
Tampa Bay has struggled against the pass, but it has been up against Cam Newton, Eli Manning, Tony Romo and Robert Griffin III. The first three have all done something in the league and the last one is off to a great start. Quinn won’t be able to hurt the Bucs the same way. Besides, Kansas City wants to run the football first and foremost, which plays right into Tampa’s hands.
The Bucs rank 4th in the NFL against the run with just 73.8 yards allowed per game. They’ll make Quinn beat them, and I don’t think he has it in him.
Tampa Bay has won its last 3 against the Chiefs. It is also 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games following a bye week. The Chiefs covered against Baltimore but are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win.
The Chiefs had nice offensive output on the ground against the Ravens, but they are only 2-11 ATS in their last 13 road games after gaining 200 or more rushing yards in their last game. They have lost in this situation by an average score of 25.4 to 16.6. Lay the points.
