Houston managed to blow another game in late innings last night against Pittsburgh. That seems to be the story for the Astros this season as they sit on an 11-31 record. The starting pitcher matchup will heavily favor the Pirates today. Erik Bedard brings an 11.92 ERA and 2.383 WHIP when playing on the road for Houston. He is averaging a mere 2.8 innings per start. The Knicks have not responded well to a win and their inability to gain any momentum will haunt them today against the Pacers. They are facing a Pacers team that is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games played at home and against a Pacers defense that has shut them down for most of this series. Throughout the playoffs Indiana has run their defense seamlessly and all those bodies in the paint makes rebounding an easy task. When you are a bad rebounding team and a mediocre shooting team going up against arguably the best defense in the league it is a recipe for disaster. The Pacers should have no problems winning big at home.

Santana has struggled on the road posting a 4.26 ERA and a 1-1 record.

Kyle Lohse has struggled for Milwaukee this season. In 8 starts he has posted a 1-4 record. In his last three starts he has a 5.29 ERA and 1.941 WHIP. Those numbers are not good considering he is up against a St. Louis team that is batting .274 over the past 7 games and the Cardinals have a .346 on base percentage in that same span. Milwaukee has had a hard time scoring runs which is why they are sitting on a 17-24 overall record. They are batting a mere .238 on the road and average 3.6 runs per game. They are an extremely well rounded team and when playing at home they should have no problems pulling away from the Grizzlies. Memphis comes into this game barely scoring more than what they allow when playing on the road. The Grizzlies averaged 93.6 points per game while holding opponents to 92 points per game. While the Grizzlies defense has been great, the Spurs present a matchup nightmare. San Antonio is 14-4 ATS when playing on 2 days of rest. When coming off a straight up win by 10 points or more they are 4-1 ATS in the following game. In head to head matchups the Spurs have a history of dominating the Grizzlies. Memphis is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 games played at San Antonio and 2-6 ATS in the last 8 overall.

The San Antonio Spurs are a veteran team and they have no problem responding to a loss, even in the postseason. San Antonio is 19-8 ATS off an upset loss as a favorite over the last 2 seasons. The Warriors have certainly played better than what they deserve credit for. The have allowed an average of 103.5 points per game on the road while scoring 101.7 offensively. The Spurs have to have a sour taste in their mouth after Golden State picked up a win on the Spurs home court so they will certainly be playing with a chip on their shoulder tonight. One thing not to forget is this San Antonio team is the same one that has won six of their last eight games. The Spurs have one of the best home records in the league and while their ATS record at home is right around .500 that seems to be the norm for most NBA teams. I really like the Spurs to cover this number tonight because of their home court advantage. They average 104.5 points per game at home and playing against a soft Warriors defense should make it easy for San Antonio to pull away.

Pat Corbin has been unbelievable for Arizona this season. In 7 starts he has earned a 5-0 record and has a 1.75 ERA and 1.058 WHIP in the process. Julio Teheran will get the start for Atlanta and he has a 2-0 record in 6 starts, but has posted a 4.84 ERA and 1.528 WHIP. Atlanta is batting .218 over their last 7 games and they have earned a 3-4 record in the process. For Arizona the Diamondbacks are 5-2 in their last 7 games and they have a .254 batting average. It is safe to say the Diamondbacks are the hot team coming into this matchup. You should always play against road underdogs with a money line of +100 to +150 like Atlanta when they are a below average NL hitting team (batting average under .255) and have a starting pitcher giving up 1 or more home runs per start and they are playing against a team with a very good bullpen whose ERA is 3.33 or better. This system is 63-21 (75%) against the money line.

The bleeding stops today for the Dodgers. Clayton Kershaw will take the mound and he brings with him a .82 ERA in his last three starts with a .727 WHIP. On the season he has 8 starts and 55.7 innings pitched and has given up a total of just 10 earned runs. The Dodgers offense is rolling right now batting .288 over their past 7 games. They also have a .346 on base percentage throughout that same span. They are facing a Washington team that is batting .231 this season and scoring a mere 3.5 runs per game on the road. Dan Haren has not thrown well for Washington this season. He has a 5.17 ERA and has allowed 8 home runs in 7 starts. He has also given up 51 hits in 38.3 innings pitched. Haren does not have the talent to slow down this Dodgers team that is on the verge of hitting a big run with as well as they have been batting.

The total on this game is set far too low considering who is on the mound for tonight’s matchup. Dan Haren has been effective this season, but he has certainly not done so due to keeping runs off the board. Haren has a 5.17 ERA and has allowed 51 hits in 38.3 innings pitched this season. Haren has also allowed 8 home runs and has a 1.487 WHIP.

For the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw will get the start. Kershaw has a 4.32 ERA against Washington with a 1.320 WHIP. The Dodgers are batting .288 so they should have no problem providing Kershaw with the necessary run support. With both starting pitchers not having phenomenal numbers I expect this game to go over the total early on.

The White Sox are not having a very good season. They are 6 games below .500 and they are really struggling to get runs on the board. Chicago is batting an embarrassing .229 on the season and averaging a mere 3.4 runs per game. They will have Dylan Axelrod on the mound for today’s game which means Chicago probably won’t be getting any close to a .500 record. Axelrod is 0-3 in 7 starts this season. Minnesota is having somewhat of a surprise season. They are sitting on an 18-17 overall record and they seem to have no problems scoring at will. In the past 7 games the Twins have a .292 batting average and have scored 7.1 runs per game. The Twins have won five of their last seven games and picking up another win over the White Sox today should be no problem.

It may come as a surprise to hear that Miami is 0-9 ATS in home games after playing 2 consecutive road games this season. Things will not get much better for Miami when they face a Chicago team that still has a lot of fight left in them. The Bulls responded well to the first blowout by Miami and coming off a 65-88 loss is more than enough motivation to play well today. The Bulls are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit home loss. With the exception of game 2 in this series the Bulls defense has played pretty well. The spark they need is on offense, especially after a 25.7% shooting performance in the last game of this series. The Miami defense is not that good so I don’t believe Chicago will have any problems turning their shooting woes around. The Heat are allowing 94.8 points per game at home on almost 45% shooting. Assuming the Bulls can put on an average performance statistically they will have no problem covering such a large number. I don’t give them much of a chance to pick up a win on the road, but they should definitely keep this game within the 14.5 points we are getting.

Milwaukee picked up a quality win over Pittsburgh yesterday and I think that momentum will carry over to today’s game too. The Brewers are batting .277 against left handed starters. Pittsburgh’s Wandy Rodriguez has been struggling recently dropping two of his last three games and posting a 6.32 ERA in those starts.

Indiana is by far one of the worst road teams left in the playoffs. The Pacers have a 21-24 straight up record on the road. They are scoring only 91 points per game away from home which is nowhere near the level they need to keep pace with this Knicks team scoring 101.5 points per game at home. The Knicks are playing to keep their postseason hopes alive and that should serve as plenty of motivation for today’s game. There is no way Colorado should be an underdog on their home field with the advantage they have on the mound today. Matt Cain has been a bit of a flop for San Francisco posting a 5.04 ERA and 2-2 record in 8 starts. Jhoulys Chacin has been nothing short of amazing for the Rockies posting a 2.70 ERA. The Rockies have been impressive at home batting .277 and averaging 5.1 runs per game. Very rarely will you get this kind of value in a line when the Phillies have Cliff Lee on the mound. Lee is 4-2 on the season with a 2.86 ERA and a 1.076 WHIP. What is most impressive about lee is his ability to keep the bullpen fresh by going an average of 7.1 innings per game.

Tony Cingrani will start for the Reds today. Cingrani has given up 6 home runs in 5 starts and he is coming off two games in which he received a no decision due to giving up runs early in the game. While last night’s game may have been a pitcher’s duel, there should be no shortage of offense today. Tom Milone will get the start for Oakland today and while his overall numbers on the season have been solid he is certainly trending in the wrong direction. Milone is 0-3 in his last three starts with a 4.26 ERA. He has given up 4 home runs in those last three games. Milone is facing a Royals team that is batting .267 in their past 7 games and scoring an average of 5.4 runs per game. Oakland picked up a 2-1 victory last night and they were facing one of the best pitchers on Kansas City’s rotation in James Shields. They should be able to get back to their normal 4.7 runs per game scoring average today. They are facing Ervin Santana who is coming off a confidence crushing performance against New York just under a week ago. Santana gave up 2 home runs and 4 earned runs. Santana has struggled on the road posting a 4.26 ERA and a 1-1 record.

Kyle Lohse has struggled for Milwaukee this season. In 8 starts he has posted a 1-4 record. In his last three starts he has a 5.29 ERA and 1.941 WHIP. Those numbers are not good considering he is up against a St. Louis team that is batting .274 over the past 7 games and the Cardinals have a .346 on base percentage in that same span. Milwaukee has had a hard time scoring runs which is why they are sitting on a 17-24 overall record. They are batting a mere .238 on the road and average 3.6 runs per game. For every win on the road they are losing two games and they have posted a 7-13 record. Kyle Lohse’s career has not seen much success against St Louis. His team is 2-5 in his 7 career starts against the Cardinals.

San Antonio has been dangerously good at home this season. The Spurs posted a 39-7 straight up record. The offense has averaged 104.6 points per game at home while allowing only 94.7 points. They are an extremely well rounded team and when playing at home they should have no problems pulling away from the Grizzlies. Memphis comes into this game barely scoring more than what they allow when playing on the road. The Grizzlies averaged 93.6 points per game while holding opponents to 92 points per game. While the Grizzlies defense has been great, the Spurs present a matchup nightmare. San Antonio is 14-4 ATS when playing on 2 days of rest. When coming off a straight up win by 10 points or more they are 4-1 ATS in the following game. In head to head matchups the Spurs have a history of dominating the Grizzlies. Memphis is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 games played at San Antonio and 2-6 ATS in the last 8 overall.
