NCAA Tournament Preview
No. 10 USC Trojans (22-12) vs. No. 2 Michigan State Spartans (27-6)
Sunday, 5:40PM Eastern

Betus.com betting line – Michigan State -4

The USC Trojans continued to stay hot in their opening round convincing victory over Boston College. USC won the last 5 games of the season wrapping it up with their first ever Pac-10 Tournament Title and that momentum has apparently carried over into the NCAA Tournament. USC completely dominated Boston College beating the Eagles 72-55. They will now take on the number 2 seeded Michigan State Spartans in a battle to go to the sweet sixteen. Michigan State came away with a solid victory over Robert Morris in the opening round 77-62. The Spartans are one of the favorites to have a chance to win the Midwest bracket, but USC will have the chance to bust everyone’s brackets if somehow they have not been already.

Even though Michigan State is the number 2 seed of the Tournament they still have a very difficult path in their bracket. If the Spartans are to manage a victory over the Trojans like they are expected, Michigan State will still have to deal possibly Kansas in the next round of the sweet sixteen. However, the Spartans must be focused on the Trojans considering they are playing extremely well right now. Michigan State forward Raymar Morgan led the Spartan scoring attack over Robert Morris with 16 points. Freshmen forward Draymond Green had the best scoring effort of his short career as he also added with 16 points. Michigan State would love nothing more than to have some unexpected faces like Green step up big during the big dance. Kalin Lucas has been the leader of the Spartan scoring attack all season and probably is due for a big night considering he has been rather quietly effective of late. Michigan State made a sweet sixteen appearance last season before losing to runner up National Champions Memphis. The Spartans will look to get back to the sweet sixteen by trying to take down the USC Trojans on Sunday.

The Trojans come into the second round of the NCAA Tournament as one of the hottest teams in college basketball. Fresh off their dominating win over Boston College, USC will be trying to make it back to the sweet sixteen as they did back in 2006. The Trojans were very impressive in their win over the Eagles on Friday. Taj Gibson led the scoring effort in a big way for USC. Gibson did not miss a single shot from the floor going an amazing 10-10 from field goal range in their match-up with Boston College. Gibson only missed shot come from the stripe where he ended up going 4 for 5 on the night resulting in 29 points. Dwight Lewis aided the red hot Trojans offense with 20 points as he continues to play well down the stretch. As a show of expect to how well USC has been playing the no. 10 seed Trojans will enter their match-up with no. 2 Michigan State as only 4 point underdogs. The only question left to be answered is will the Trojans momentum continue to roll when they take on a highly rated Spartans team.

Michigan State should be the better rebounding team heading into the contest averaging right at 40 rebounds per game which ranks them inside the top 30 in America this season. Senior Goran Suton pulled down a very impressive 17 rebounds in their opening round game with Robert Morris and could make a big impact on the boards again. However, USC has shot better than the Spartans as a team on average this season not to mention they have been shooting the ball even better over the last couple of games. Over the last 6 games, the Trojans have knocked down an amazing 52% as a team from the floor and has yet to show any signs of slowing down. This game has the making to be a grudge match that could go right down to the wire.

Pick – This will be a tough pick, but we will go against what most are predicting and take USC in the upset. Take USC +4

College Football Betting Preview
California (6-2) at USC (7-1)

Saturday, 8:00 pm Eastern – ABC

SBG Global Opening Line: USC  - 17.5  , Total  50

The two top teams in the Pac-10 get together on Saturday when #21 California visits #7 USC.  The Trojans have won a share of the last six Pac-10 titles.  Since getting upset by Oregon State, the Trojans have rolled over opponents including shutting out three of the last four.  That may not be saying much though considering Washington and Washington State are not much better than high school teams this season.  The BCS was not impressed either as USC dropped two spots after last week’s win against the Huskies. SBG Global reports that early College Football betting has the public taking USC at Home.

California has won four of their last five including a 26-16 win over Oregon last week. Nate Longshore passed for 136 yards and a touchdown in relief of an injured Kevin Riley.  Longshore has not played well in his career against USC throwing four interceptions in two starts. “You need two quality quarterbacks, and you just can’t say enough about those guys,” California head coach Jeff Tedford said. “They’re always out there competing and supporting each other. … Nate is a veteran. He’s been in a lot of games. Sure, coming off the bench is a bit new for him, but it was no big deal.”  The Bears will probably have trouble regardless of who starts at quarterback against a USC defense that ranks first in the country in total defense.  Last year the Trojans won 24-17 over California and they have won four straight in the series overall.

Here are the College Football betting stats for Saturday’s game.  The Golden Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games. The Golden Bears are 3-14 ATS in their last 17 games on grass. The Golden Bears are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games in November. The Golden Bears are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Golden Bears are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings in Southern California. The road team is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings between the two teams.

The Trojans are 21-5 ATS in their last 26 games in November. The Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Trojans are 12-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Trojans are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall.

SBG Global Current Line: USC  - 17.5  , Total  50

The Under is 5-1 in the Golden Bears last 6 games in November. The Over is 4-1 in the Golden Bears last 5 road games. The Under is 14-3-1 in the Trojans last 18 home games. The Under is 21-6-1 in the Trojans last 28 conference games. The Under is 19-7-1 in the Trojans last 27 games overall.

The Under is 5-2-1 in the Trojans last 8 games in November. The Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between the two teams.

College Football Betting Preview
#23 Oregon at #9 USC
Saturday, 8:00 pm Eastern – ABC

SBG Global Opening Line: USC -  17   ,  Total  57

Revenge will be on the mind of ninth-ranked USC on Saturday as they host #23 Oregon.  The Trojans rarely lose any games but they were beaten last year by the Ducks 27-21 and they are coming off a loss to the other Oregon team, the Beavers that knocked them from #1 in the polls.  With the volatility in college football it still could be possible that the Trojans could move up the rankings and regain that spot before the year is out, but not if they lose on Saturday. SBG Global reports that early College Football betting has the public taking USC at Home.

USC could be without two-time All-Pac-10 linebacker Rey Maualuga, who sprained his knee in the Oregon State loss and is questionable for Saturday.

The Trojans will need him considering Oregon is fourth in the country in rushing, averaging 308.6 yards in their first five games. “In areas we need to shore up, they are extremely capable and strong,” USC head coach Pete Carroll said. “You can’t ignore the running game with over 300 yards rushing.”

Here is a look at the College Football betting stats for Saturday’s game. The Ducks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in October. The Ducks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Ducks are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between the two teams.

The Trojans are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games on grass. The Trojans are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Trojans are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss. The Trojans are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Trojans are 28-12 ATS in their last 40 home games. The Trojans are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games in October. The favorite is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between the two teams.

The Over is 5-1-1 in the Ducks last 7 games overall. The Under is 4-1 in the Ducks last 5 games on grass. The Under is 5-2 in the Ducks last 7 conference games. The Over is 9-4-2 in the Ducks last 15 road games.

SBG Global Current Line: USC -  16   ,  Total  56

The Under is 4-0 in the Trojans last 4 games in October. The Under is 7-1 in the Trojans last 8 home games. The Under is 16-5 in the Trojans last 21 games on grass. The Under is 21-7 in the Trojans last 28 conference games. The Under is 20-8 in the Trojans last 28 games overall. The Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between the two teams.

#5 Ohio State at #1 USC
Saturday, 8:00 pm Eastern – ABC

SBG Global Opening Line: USC  -  10.5  ,  Total  44.5

The most anticipated game of the college football season takes place on Saturday as #1 USC hosts #5 Ohio State. Either USC or Ohio State has played for the national title in college football the last four seasons and the winner of this game will have the inside track this year.  USC and Ohio State have not played in 18 years and both teams are looking forward to the game.

“We love competing against the top teams,” USC quarterback Mark Sanchez said, “That’s why I came here. It’s going to be a great day for college football. The Coliseum is going to be rocking.”

SBG Global reports that early College Football betting has the public taking USC at Home.

The Buckeyes are not getting much respect after their lackluster win last week against Ohio.  Star running back Chris “Beanie” Wells is expected to play but how effective he will be is in question.  They missed him last week when they had just 272 yards in their 26-14 win over Ohio. “The only way we can be successful on the road at Southern Cal is be at our best, I mean, there’s no way that we can do it if we’re not at our best,” Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel said. “So I think all of us in the whole locker room recognized after the (Ohio) game that we weren’t at our best.”

USC was very impressive in their opening win against Virginia as Sanchez threw for three touchdowns and 338 yards. “You can just sense that if you give him time back there, he’s going to find guys and he’s got a real attitude about him to take advantage of it. It’s his nature,” said Trojans coach Pete Carroll.

The last time these two teams met was in 1990 when USC won 35-26.  They have an 11-9-1 edge in the all-time series against Ohio State.  Here are more betting stats for Saturday’s game.  The Buckeyes are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. the Pac-10. The Buckeyes are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 road games.

The Buckeyes are 21-7 ATS in their last 28 games on grass. The Buckeyes are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games in September. The Buckeyes are 23-10 ATS in their last 33 games overall. The Buckeyes are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference College Football betting games.

SBG Global Current Line: USC  -  11   ,  Total  44.5

The Trojans are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 vs. the Big Ten. The Trojans are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Trojans are 20-6 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games. The Trojans are 27-12 ATS in their last 39 home games.

The Under is 9-3 in the Buckeyes last 12 games in September. The Under is 6-1 in the Trojans last 7 home games. The Under is 9-3 in the Trojans last 12 games overall. The Over is 11-4 in the Trojans last 15 non-conference games. The Under is 5-2 in the Trojans last 7 games in September.

This year Third-ranked USC begins the 2008 regular season with a bit of a chip on their shoulder after not making the National Championship game last season.  The Trojans have set an NCAA record with six straight 11-win seasons but last year was considered a failure because they did not even make the title game.  they must avoid looking past Virginia to the game against Ohio State in two weeks. “Every game is a championship game for us,” USC head coach Pete Carroll said.  The Trojans must replace 10 players that went to the NFL but at USC they don’t rebuild, they reload. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Football betting has the public taking USC on the Road.

“We’ve had a terrific run with the kids that have been in the program, that have won national championships, but they’ve all left us,” Carroll said. “To see the change in leadership and the emergence of the leadership, we sense a whole new excitement.”  Quarterback Mark Sanchez leads a very talented USC squad this season.  He dislocated his left kneecap earlier this month but is ready for Saturday’s game. “Oh, I think so, absolutely. Especially mentally,” Sanchez said, “I feel good about it. If it were up to me, I’m in.”

Last season the Trojans were ranked #1 before the season but suffered the biggest loss in college football betting history as Stanford beat them in early October.  They lost to Oregon later that month and finished 11-2 overall.  USC returns some excellent talent including linebackers Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing. “I’m sure everybody’s confident on the defensive side that we’re going to be somebody,” Maualuga said.

SBG Global Current Line: USC  -  19.5  ,  Total  43

Virginia made it into the Top 25 last season but returns only 10 starters this season. “We like to have some challenging games on an on-going basis,” Virginia head coach Al Groh said. “It’s good for our team. It brings out the best in your team. Competition is not about always scheduling to win. Competition is about stepping out there and putting yourself out there a little bit and seeing what you can do with it.”

Here are the NCAA Football betting stats for Saturday’s game. The Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Trojans are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 non-conference games.

The Cavaliers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in August. The Cavaliers are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games.

The Under is 5-0 in the Trojans last 5 games in August. The Under is 9-2 in the Trojans last 11 games overall. The Under is 4-1 in the Trojans last 5 road games. The Under is 15-4 in the Trojans last 19 games on grass. The Over is 10-4 in the Trojans last 14 non-conference games. The Over is 4-1 in the Cavaliers last 5 games on grass. The Under is 4-1 in the Cavaliers last 5 games in August. The Over is 4-1 in the Cavaliers last 5 games overall. The Under is 13-6 in the Cavaliers last 19 home games.
