This seems to be the time of year for rumors in almost every sport. Since I like to rant about recent sports topics why not rumors? Let’s get started in baseball. Last at the home run derby Cy young award winner and Toronto Blue Jay ace, Roy Halladay talked about the possibility of being traded. He professed his love for his current team but added that he would be open to a move to a major market in the National League. Are you listening Philladelphia Phillies? They were obviously not. It was reported today that Pedro Martinez in on the verge of signing with the Philadelphia Philles.. Okay not a bad addition and maybe he will give you a few games and do well, but Roy Halladay is a much better than catch. Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay would be a great one-two punch and make the Phillies a chance to repeat. It would be a shame if Philly balked and he ended up in St. Louis and it came back to haunt them. In the NBA it was reported that Allen Iverson will sign with the LA Clippers. The only catch is that the Clippers want to talk to A.I. face-to-face about coming off the bench. This is a good move by the Clippers by asking to meet with him and he may actually do okay in LA. It’s sad to see that no team wants Iverson but it would seem he has brought it on himself. It would be better to see him finish his career playing off the bench with a shot at a ring, but I don’t see it. In Minnesota, New York, and Spain the Ricky Rubio saga continues. Timberwolves president David Kahn is doing everything he can to keep Rubio in Minnesota He is working with Rubio’s agent Dan Fegan and on a buyout from DKV Joventut of the Spanish ACB League which is believed to be in the 4-5 million dollar range. I don’t think that Rubio realizes the young talent base that the wolves have and I believe they would be a playoff team if he did indeed sign on and play in the Twin Cities. Although he fits into the system in New York I would rather see him play where he was drafted. If he goes to New York he could be looking at a bigger market and more fanfare but it’s clear that Ricky Rubio has a huge following and is very marketable wherever he will go. It will take some time with the complicated buyout but David Kahn is taking his situation and his family into account and handling it very well. “I don’t feel any pressure on behalf of the organization and we don’t feel any need to put pressure on anybody. What we did was the right thing to do, I truly believe that. And I believe it was the right thing for the entire organization,” Kahn added. One thing for sure is Ricky Rubio is going to be a star in this league it just will be a matter of time before we figure out where that will be.

The Toronto Blue Jays are one team that could do without Interleague play. Before last night’s game the Blue Jays were 0-6 in Interleague play this season. “It’s hard to explain. Some teams beat up on you — some teams don’t,” manager Cito Gaston said. Last season the Blue Jays were 8-9 in Interleague play. Usually American League teams beat up on National League teams but that is not the case with Toronto. Only Baltimore, Kansas City and Tampa Bay have worse all-time records in Interleague play than Toronto does. SBG Global reports that early MLB Betting has the public taking Blue Jays on the Road. “National League people say, ‘Oh, we’re the one who’s getting screwed,’” Gaston said. “To me, you’re just getting a hitter, putting him in there and letting him hit. It’s nothing else happening. You’re getting a guy off the bench to get some at-bats. I’m pretty sure that, Philly, when they go somewhere, they will let [Matt] Stairs hit so he can get some at-bats. So, I don’t see how it can be a disadvantage for them. It’s more of a disadvantage for us. This next road trip, Philly and going into Washington, I lose my [designated hitter]. I get my pitchers in danger of getting hurt. People talk about bunting, I’m just talking about getting out of the way of the ball.” Jamie Moyer gets the start for the Phillies on Wednesday. He allowed only eight hits and three runs and struck out three in six innings last Thursday against the Mets. He is 1-2 with a 3.77 ERA in his last five starts. The Toronto Blue Jays are coming off a sweep of the defending World Champion Boston Red Sox over the weekend. They will look to keep their hot streak going as they open up a series against Oakland on Tuesday. The Blue Jays will go with A.J. Burnett while the A’s will counter with Rich Harden. SBG Global reports that early MLB betting has the public taking Blue Jays at Home.
The Blue Jays did just about everything right against Boston in their sweep. “To start off that way, where we’re playing sound defensively, pitching well and to see the bats come in and take advantage of chances, it’s nice to see that early on,” said pitcher Roy Halladay. Jeremy Accardo earned his third save in the Sunday finale. The Blue Jays team ERA through their first six games is 2.94. Burnett had a nice opening game as he defeated the Yankees 5-2 last Wednesday, giving up two runs in six innings. “A.J. was dominating,” manager John Gibbons said, “He threw some good changeups, and he was locked in with some good breaking balls – that was great to see out of him. That’s what he can do, and I’m proud of the guy.” Burnett is 1-1 with a 2.18 ERA in three career starts against Oakland.
Rich Harden will get the start for the A’s. He has been excellent so far this season giving up only one earned run in 11 innings over two starts. He gave up only four hits in five scoreless innings last Wednesday but the A’s couldn’t score and lost the game after he left. Harden has not had much success against Toronto in his career going 0-3 with 5.59 ERA in five starts. The A’s took two of three from Cleveland over the weekend and nearly swept the Tribe but lost 2-1 on Sunday. Last season the A’s won the season series against the Blue Jays 5-4.
