Thursday, 8:00 pm Eastern – Fox

The spotlight on Thursday night will be on the quarterback battle in Tampa Bay between Byron Leftwich and Luke McCown. Head coach Raheem Morris has not said which player will get the starting job but what is clear is that Thursday’s game could be the deciding factor.

Tampa Bay is a 2.5 point favorite with a total of 37 at Bookmaker.

Leftwich gets the start on Thursday and will play 1.5 quarters with the starters. McCown will play the next 1.5 quarters, also with the starters. Neither quarterback has been great during the preseason but both have had their moments. McCown is 10 of 17 passes (58.8%) for 70 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He has a quarterback rating of 107.5. Leftwich has completed 12 of 26 passes for 124 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions and he has a QB rating of 73.2. Rookie quarterback Josh Freeman is not being considered at the moment for the starting job although the Bucs consider him their quarterback of the future. Tampa Bay will have Earnest Graham back in the starting lineup after he missed last week’s game against Jacksonville.

Miami comes into Thursday’s game looking good. They won 27-17 last week against Carolina and the first string offense looked strong. Chad Pennington was 8 for 11 for 105 yards and a TD. Miami is expected to player their starters into the third quarter in this game. Following Pennington at quarterback will be Chad Henne who has looked solid this NFL betting preseason. He has completed 17 of 27 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. “I think it’s about understanding what you’re going to go through in the preseason and just having the playbook underneath my belt for one year has just been a lot easier for me,” Henne said. “Repetition with the plays and just getting through them are what I am doing better at now. I definitely feel a lot better. I mean understanding defenses, understanding our offense, what matches with each other and just making smart decisions and knowing where to go with the ball allows me to feel so much more comfortable and the year really helped me a lot.”

The Dolphins and Bucs have met 23 times in the NFL betting preseason history with Miami holding a 14-9 lead. Last season it was Tampa Bay winning 17-6 in Miami in the preseason.

Pick: Dolphins

NFL Betting Preview
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-4) at Atlanta Falcons (8-5)
Sunday, 1:00 pm Eastern – FOX

SBG Global Opening Line: Falcons -  3 ,  Total  44.5

Two teams battling for a playoff spot in the very competitive NFC South meet in Atlanta on Sunday as the Falcons host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Both teams are coming off losses last week but each team can still make the playoffs.  The Bucs are a game behind Carolina in the division and could clinch a playoff spot with a win against Atlanta and a loss by either Dallas or Philadelphia.  The Falcons are a game back of the Bucs and they understand that a win against the Bucs is a necessity after losing last week to the Saints.

“Obviously we’re frustrated with the outcome. But this team hasn’t given up all year.” quarterback Matt Ryan said, “We still have everything that we want in front of us. We’re capable of getting into the playoffs.”
SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Falcons at Home.

The Falcons haven’t had much success recently against the Bucs, losing the last three by a combined score of 92-19.  The good news for Atlanta is that they are at home and NFC South teams at home have been unbeatable this season.  The home team has won all 10 division games in the NFC South this season.  Atlanta is 5-1 overall at home this season, averaging 32.2 points per game.  Running back Michael Turner could have a big game against a Bucs defense that gave up over 300 yards to the Panthers last week.  Turner is second in the NFL with 1,269 rushing yards.

Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Buccaneers are 7-3-2 ATS in their last 12 games when playing on Sunday following a Monday night game. The Buccaneers are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Buccaneers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Buccaneers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in December. The Buccaneers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings in Atlanta.

The Falcons are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games. The Falcons are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite. The Falcons are 2-6 ATS in their last

8 vs. the NFC South. The favorite is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between the two teams.

SBG Global Current Line: Falcons -  3 ,  Total  44.5

The Over is 6-0 in the Buccaneers last 6 games in December. The Over is 9-2 in the Buccaneers last 11 road games. The Over is 5-2 in the Buccaneers last 7 games as an underdog. NFL Betting Preview
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-2) at Dallas Cowboys (4-3)
Sunday, 1:00 pm Eastern – FOX

SBG Global Opening Line: Cowboys  -  1.5   ,  Total  40.5

The Dallas Cowboys were thought of as Super Bowl contenders with Tony Romo at quarterback.  Without him they may not even be a playoff team.  The Cowboys will be without Romo until mid-November so it is up to backup quarterback Brad Johnson to lead the offense until Romo returns. The Cowboys were humiliated last week against the Rams and Johnson did not play well, throwing three interceptions.   It may not get any easier for Johnson against a Tampa defense that is second in the league with 12 interceptions.  The Tampa defense ranks 8th in the league in total defense and fourth in scoring defense. “We can accomplish our goals, but we can’t accomplish them if we don’t play better,” Dallas coach Wade Phillips said. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Cowboys at Home.

The Bucs are trying for their sixth win of the season on Sunday.  They dominated Seattle 20-10 last week in a game that was never close. The Bucs had a 402-176 advantage over the Seahawks in total yards. “I think the defense played great,” Tampa Bay safety Sabby Piscitelli said. “But the biggest thing was the offense kept us off the field.”  Jeff Garcia played great again, throwing for 310 yards and a touchdown.  He will be facing a Dallas defense that is without cornerback Terence Newman and Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams.

Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Buccaneers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games on grass. The Buccaneers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Buccaneers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the NFC. The Buccaneers are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games in Week 8.

The Cowboys are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in Week 8. The Cowboys are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Cowboys are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games in October. The Cowboys are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 vs. the NFC. The Cowboys are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Cowboys are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games.  The home team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between the two teams.

SBG Global Current Line: Cowboys  -  2   ,  Total  40.5

The Over is 6-1 in the Buccaneers last 7 road games. The Under is 35-17-1 in the Buccaneers last 53 games in October. The Over is 4-0 in the Cowboys last 4 games overall. The Over is 7-1 in the Cowboys last 8 games in October. The Over is 4-1 in the Cowboys last 5 vs. the NFC.

NFL Betting Preview
Seattle Seahawks (1-4) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)
Sunday, 8:20 pm Eastern – CBS

SBG Global Opening Line: Buccaneers - 10.5 , Total 38

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to add to the misery of the Seattle Seahawks season as they host them on Sunday night. The Seahawks have done very little right this season and will be missing quarterback Matt Hasselbeck again on Sunday. The Bucs are also missing their starting quarterback but Jeff Garcia was the starter last season and the Bucs didn’t miss a beat last week with Garcia at the helm. “This is just one game and we don’t know what’s going to happen next,” Garcia said, “But it felt great to be playing again. If we can just build on these things, we have a lot of good things to look forward to.” SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Buccaneers at Home.

The Bucs have been superb at home this season, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 81-33. The Bucs have not had much success at home against Seattle though, losing all four meetings. Tampa is actually 1-7 all-time against the Seahawks. This is not the same Seattle team though. Hasselbeck is out and the defense is a disgrace, ranking 27th in the league. The offense is no better, especially without Hasselbeck, as the passing game is next to last in the NFL. “We don’t have the ability right now like we have had in the past to overcome (things),” head coach Mike Holmgren said. “It’s tough right now … It is a test of sorts, you know, we are not used to this. But here were are … And we still have a lot of games to play. So we have to start dealing with that.”

Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Seahawks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. the NFC. The Seahawks are 6-26 ATS in their last 32 games in October. The Seahawks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Seahawks are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games in Week 7. The Seahawks are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Seahawks are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between the two teams. The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between the two teams.

The Buccaneers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Buccaneers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Buccaneers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. the NFC. The Buccaneers are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games.

SBG Global Current Line: Buccaneers - 10.5 , Total 38

The Over is 7-0-1 in the Seahawks last 8 games overall. The Over is 4-0 in the Seahawks last 4 road games. The Over is 6-0-1 in the Seahawks last 7 vs. the NFC. The Over is 21-6-1 in the Seahawks last 28 games in October. The

Under is 4-1 in the Buccaneers last 5 games in October. The Over is 7-3 in the Buccaneers last 10 vs. the NFC. The Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between the two teams.

Pick: Bucs 2 out of 5 units

NFL Betting Preview
Carolina Panthers (4-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2)
Sunday, 1:00 pm Eastern – FOX

SBG Global Opening Line: Buccaneers  -  2   ,  Total  36.5

The 2008 Carolina Panthers are starting to look at lot like the 2003 team that went to the Super Bowl. Seven of the 24 starters remain from that team including quarterback Jake Delhomme and receiver Steve Smith.  The one area that might be better this season for Carolina is the defense.  The Panthers are 4th in the NFL in total defense this season.

SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Panthers on the Road.

The Bucs are a small favorite in this game even with their quarterback situation unsettled.  Brian Griese was injured last week and although he is getting better, Jeff Garcia will probably get the start against the Panthers.  Both signal callers have been effective so it may not matter who is at the helm for Tampa Bay.

The Panthers have dominated the series against the Bucs recently, winning 8 of the last 10 games.  The teams split their two meetings last year with the home team winning each time.  Here are more NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game.  The Panthers are 4-0-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Panthers are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games on grass. The Panthers are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. the NFC. The Panthers are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games in Week 6. The Panthers are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games in October. The Panthers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. the NFC South. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Tampa Bay. The road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between the two teams and the underdog is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings

SBG Global Current Line: Buccaneers  -  1.5   ,  Total  36.5

The Buccaneers are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games in Week 6. The Buccaneers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Buccaneers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. the NFC South. The Buccaneers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games.

The Under is 4-0 in the Panthers last 4 games in October. The Under is 4-0 in the Panthers last 4 games overall. The Under is 5-1 in the Panthers last 6 vs. the NFC South. The Over is 4-1 in the Panthers last 5 road games.

The Over is 5-1 in the Buccaneers last 6 vs. the NFC South. The Over is 8-3 in the Buccaneers last 11 games overall. The Under is 13-6 in the Buccaneers last 19 games in October. The Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Tampa Bay between the two teams.

NFL Betting Preview
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) at Denver Broncos (3-1)
Sunday, 4:05 pm Eastern – FOX

SBG Global Opening Line: Broncos  -  3   ,  Total  48

One of the more entertaining games on Sunday could be in Denver as the high scoring Broncos host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  The Broncos offense has bailed them out in most games but it couldn’t do enough last week in the loss to Kansas City.  The Broncos rank 30th in the league in yards allowed and 31st in points allowed. “We’ve got to find a way to be more consistent,” cornerback Dre’ Bly said. “Defensively, we haven’t had the year we want to have.”  The Broncos still could be unbeaten though if their offense had not turned the ball over four times last week and settled for field goals. “Any offense that does that to a defense, there’s no chance,” said Denver head coach Mike Shanahan, “People will point to the defense, but that’s so far from the truth. We’ve got to play better. We’ve got some work to do. But it was not quite as bad as it looked in those final stats.” SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Broncos at Home.

The Bucs have won three straight and are tied for first place in the NFC South with Carolina.  The Bucs have been led by linebacker Derrick Brooks and a defense that makes plays. “Unbelievable,” coach Jon Gruden said. “We know he’s been nursing and working through an injury. What he played like today was the Derrick Brooks that everybody recognizes. He made plays sideline to sideline. There’s a lot of strength left in Derrick Brooks and we need him in the final 12 weeks.”

Tampa head coach Jon Gruden has not had much success against Denver.  He is 1-8 in his head coaching career against the Broncos.  Here are more NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game.  The Buccaneers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in October.

The Broncos are 7-17-1 ATS in their last 25 games on grass. The Broncos are 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 home games. The Broncos are 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 games overall. The Broncos are 3-10 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

SBG Global Current Line: Broncos  -  3   ,  Total  47.5

The Over is 6-0 in the Buccaneers last 6 road games. The Over is 8-2 in the Buccaneers last 10 games overall. The Over is 13-3-1 in the Broncos last 17 home games. The Over is 21-5-1 in the Broncos last 27 games overall. The Over is 5-2-1 in the Broncos last 8 games in Week 5.

Pick: Bucs 2 out of 5 units, Over 2 out of 5 units

NFL Preseason Betting Preview
New England Patriots at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sunday, 8:00 pm Eastern – NFL Network

SBG Global Opening Line: Patriots   PK  ,  Total  33.5

The New England Patriots will play their second preseason game of the year on Sunday night in Tampa Bay and they will look to play much better than they did a week ago in their home loss to the Baltimore Ravens.  Quarterback Tom Brady was held out last week and his backups were awful in the loss.  Brady should see his first action of the season on Sunday.  Reports have him playing at least the first quarter against the Bucs. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Patriots on the Road.

Last week the Patriots backup quarterbacks combined to turn the ball over four times.  Matt Cassel was 1-4, Matt Gutierrez 10-16 and Kevin O’Connell 6-13.  All three threw an interception in their limited action.  O’Connell led the team’s only touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.  New England did get solid play out of newcomer Lamont Jordan who rushed for 76 yards on 19 carries. “LaMont did some really good things,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said. “Some things like being new to the system and running plays for the first time, especially under full-speed contact situations, look a little different and have a different feel to them.”

SBG Global Current Line: Patriots  - 1.5  ,  Total  34.5

Tampa Bay defeated the Miami Dolphins 17-6 last week even though starting quarterback Jeff Garcia did not play. Garcia is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Patriots. Four other quarterbacks got playing time for the Bucs though against Miami.  Luke McCown, Brian Griese, Chris Simms and rookie Josh Johnson took their turns leading the team.  The quarterback that looked the best last week was Brian Griese. “Brian Griese has had a great camp and did a heck of a job on the two-minute drill,” said head coach Jon Gruden. “That was a great way to end the half. We still have a little bit more work to do.” Griese was 10-14 for 59 yards in the win. Running back Earnest Graham was held out last week against Miami but is expected to play on Sunday.  Wide receiver Joey Galloway is not expected to play against the Patriots due to an injured calf.

NFL betting stats show that the Buccaneers have a 6-1 lead in the all-time preseason series with the Patriots.  That includes a 13-10 win at home in last year’s preseason action.

Pick: Patriots 2units
