The Fate of South Carolina Governor’s Political Career is called Into Question and Bookies are Taking Bets
June 25, 2009, San Jose CR – Perhaps the better question is not if, but when South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford will resign. After reports surfaced that the Governor spent 5 days in Argentina with his mistress, the politician promptly resigned as chairman of the Republican Governors’ Association, leaving many to wonder if he will also be leaving his post as Governor. Analysts at Bookmaker.com have posted odds on if the Governor Sanford will resign and if so, when.

Will South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford Resign?
Sanford will resign before July 1st                         -400
Sanford will resign between July 2-15th                 -700
Sanford will resign between July 15th-31st             +150
Sanford will resign between August 1st-15th           +200
Sanford will not resign                                         Even

“Governor Sanford is known for upholding strong moral values and it’s very likely this affair will lead to his resignation,” said Esteban Siles, Spokesperson for Bookmaker.com.  “During the Monica Lewinsky scandal between President Bill Clinton, Sanford voted in favor of impeachment and it would be hypocritical for him to remain at his post.”

College Football Betting Preview
South Carolina (7-3) at Florida (8-1)
Saturday, 3:30 pm Eastern – CBS

SBG Global Opening Line: Florida   -  21  ,  Total  49

The Florida Gators will look to continue their march to the National Championship game as they host the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday.  Florida is ranked #3 in the country but if they win their remaining games this season and then the SEC Championship game against Alabama they will play in the BCS Championship game.  Florida will be facing a South Carolina team on Saturday that has won six of their last seven. SBG Global reports that early College Football betting has the public taking South Carolina on the Road.

“Making it to Atlanta for the SEC championship was one of our goals at the beginning of the season, but our goal is to take care of business every Saturday,” said quarterback Tim Tebow.  Florida will finish up with The Citadel and Florida State before playing the SEC title game. “It’s a great accomplishment for our team, but we still have to play South Carolina so we’re just trying to focus on one game at a time,” Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes said, “We’re not going to overlook anybody. We are turning our focus on South Carolina, and that’s it.”

South Carolina started the season 1-2 but has won six of seven since that time. “We’ve had a pretty good little run thus far and we’ve got two big, big games left to finish up the season,” head coach Steve Spurrier said. “Hopefully, we can finish strong and finish ranked when it’s all said and done.” It will not be easy for South Carolina on Saturday considering the Gators have won their last five games by an average of 37.2 points per game.

Florida has won 15 of the last 16 games against South Carolina and they have won all 11 games against the Gamecocks in Gainesville.  Here are more College Football betting stats for Saturday’s game.  The Gamecocks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games. The Gamecocks are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in November. The Gamecocks are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 road games.

The Gators are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Gators are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games in November. The Gators are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 conference games.

College Football Betting Preview
LSU (4-1) at South Carolina (5-2)
Saturday, 8:00 pm Eastern – ESPN

SBG Global Opening Line: LSU  -  3.5  ,  Total  45

The LSU Tigers will try and rebound from a bad loss last week at Florida but it may not be easy against a tough South Carolina team.  The Gamecocks have won four straight and have the nation’s third ranked defense.  That could mean a low scoring game on Saturday night.  The Tigers had all kinds of problems last week against Florida but head coach Les Miles believes his team will come back strong this week. “I think our team will respond very favorably to what was a showing that we could have played better,” said Miles, “It’s going to be a great one for our football team to go to South Carolina and play well on the road. We need to come out and play well from the start.” SBG Global reports that early College Football betting has the public taking LSU on the Road.

The Gamecocks scored just enough last week to win 24-17 over Kentucky. “We can play some defense,” South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said, “If we can get the offense going just a little bit better, we’ve got a chance against everybody.”  Redshirt freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia played well in relief of starter Chris Smelley last week and will get the start against LSU.  The Gamecocks have not beaten LSU at home since 1930.  The Tigers are 15-2-1 all-time against South Carolina. “This is a key game for us,” Spurrier said. “LSU is sort of the big name team as we know. What we’re really trying to do this week is talk about playing the best we can, not so much worry that we’re playing the defending national champ and the team has tremendous history. If we play our game, play well and take care of the ball I believe we’ll be right in there with these guys.”

SBG Global Current Line: LSU  -  2.5  ,  Total  45

Here are the College Football betting stats for Saturday’s game. The Tigers are 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall. The Tigers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Tigers are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 conference games. The Tigers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games in October.

The Gamecocks are 11-4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Gamecocks are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 conference games.

The Over is 4-0 in the Tigers last 4 games in October. The Over is 5-0 in the Tigers last 5 road games. The Over is 11-2 in the Tigers last 13 games overall. The Over is 13-3 in the Tigers last 16 conference games. The Under is 4-0 in the Gamecocks last 4 home games. The Over is 4-1-1 in the Gamecocks last 6 conference games.

#2 Georgia at #25 South Carolina
Saturday, 3:30 pm Eastern – CBSSBG Global Opening Line: Georgia  -  7  ,  Total  44

Georgia is no longer the #1 ranked team in the nation, despite winning their first two games by a combined score of 101-38.  USC jumped over Georgia in the polls but the Bulldogs could easily surpass them in upcoming weeks considering they play in the tougher SEC.  Georgia opens up SEC play on Saturday at South Carolina.  “This is a different brand of athletes from what we played in the first two games,” Georgia head coach Mark Richt said. “I’m not trying to disrespect who we played, but if you look at the film there is a huge difference in the size, strength and speed of this defense compared to the first two games.”  Quarterback Matthew Stafford did not play well last year in the loss to South Carolina and will look to redeem himself on Saturday.  The Gamecocks have allowed an average of only 69.5 passing yards per game this season, best in the nation. SBG Global reports that early College Football betting has the public taking Georgia on the Road.

South Carolina laid an egg last week, losing to Vanderbilt as quarterback Chris Smelley threw two interceptions. “We were ready to play, we just got our tails kicked,” head coach Steve Spurrier said. “We don’t have excuses, they just beat us.”

Here is a look at the College Football betting stats for Saturday’s game. The Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games on grass. The Bulldogs are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September.

The Bulldogs are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 conference games. The road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between the two teams.

SBG Global Current Line: Georgia  -  7  ,  Total  44

The Gamecocks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. The Gamecocks are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in September. The Gamecocks are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games on grass. The Gamecocks are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Gamecocks are 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Gamecocks are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 conference games.

The Over is 5-1 in the Bulldogs last 6 games on grass. The Under is 21-7 in the Bulldogs last 28 games in September. The Over is 5-2 in the Bulldogs last 7 games overall. The Over is 18-7 in the Gamecocks last 25 home games. The Under is 5-2 in the Gamecocks last 7 games on grass. The Under is 5-2-1 in the Gamecocks last 8 games overall. South Carolina at Vanderbilt
Thursday, 8:30 pm Eastern – ESPN

SBG Global Opening Line: South Carolina  -  9.5  ,  Total  41

South Carolina and Vanderbilt open up the SEC part of their schedules on Thursday as the Commodores host the Gamecocks on ESPN.  Vanderbilt has had very little success in SEC openers in the past as they are just 4-21 in their last 25 conference openers. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Football betting has the public taking South Carolina on the Road

Vanderbilt has also struggled at home in SEC openers. The Commodores have lost their last 10 conference openers played at home.  They could have trouble scoring against a South Carolina defense that shutout North Carolina State last week by a score of 34-0.  It was the first shutout for South Carolina since 2006 when they won at Mississippi State.  The offense was led by running back Mike Davis who had over 100 yards on the ground and quarterback Chris Smelley who threw two touchdown passes in relief of quarterback Tommy Beecher who suffered a concussion.  It could be Smelley that gets the start on Thursday for South Carolina.

SBG Global Current Line: South Carolina  -  9.5  ,  Total  41

Vanderbilt dispatched Miami of Ohio last week 34-13 and looked good doing it.  They have a solid defense that could cause South Carolina some problems on Thursday. “Defensively Vandy’s a very good team. We’ve got to execute, protect the quarterback run and everything.” South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said, “We’re looking forward to see if we can improve.”

Here is a look at the NCAA Football betting stats for Thursday’s game.  The two teams are meeting for the 18th time in history.  South Carolina is 14-3 straight up in those meetings.  They met last season at South Carolina and Vanderbilt upset the Gamecocks by a score of 17-6.  The last time they played at Vandy the Gamecocks won 31-13 in 2006.  South Carolina is 8-1 in Nashville against the Commodores and has won the last four meetings.  Before last season the Commodores had lost seven straight to South Carolina.  The Gamecocks are 11-4 against the spread in the last 15 games against Vanderbilt.  Three of the last five games have gone Under the total.

College Football Betting Preview
North Carolina State at South Carolina
Thursday, 8:00 pm Eastern – ESPN

SBG Global Opening Line: South Carolina  -  13.5  ,  Total  50.5

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier is not making any predictions about this year’s football team just yet.  Last season the Gamecocks started 6-1 but collapsed down the stretch, losing their last five games and missing out on a bowl game.  That has put the pressure squarely on Spurrier to produce this season.  They open up the season with an interesting test as Tom O’Brien’s North Carolina State Wolfpack come to town. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Football betting has the public taking South Carolina at Home.

“We’re trying to stay a little bit underneath the radar, whatever you want to call it, about not trying to talk too big and, hopefully, let our play do whatever talking needs to be said,” Spurrier said, “I don’t know we’ve got a really good team, an average team or what. I don’t know yet.” The Gamecocks are only 21-16 under Spurrier and the pressure is starting to build on the old ball coach.  “Time can only tell if we’re a different team than in the (past) three years I’ve been here,” Spurrier said. South Carolina is starting the season with unproven junior quarterback Tommy Beecher who has thrown only 24 passes in his career.  The good news for Spurrier is that his defense is excellent.  They have both Jasper Brinkley and Nathan Pepper back from injury.

The key for North Carolina State will be to run the ball and play defense. New quarterback Russell Wilson may be in for a long night facing that tough South Carolina defense. The Wolfpack have a solid defensive as well led by defensive end Willie Young and defensive tackle Alan Michael Cash.

SBG Global Current Line: South Carolina  -  14   ,  Total  45

Here are the NCAA Football betting stats for Thursday’s game. The Wolfpack are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in August. The Wolfpack are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games on grass. The Wolfpack are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Wolfpack are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.

The Gamecocks are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games. The Gamecocks are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 vs. the ACC. The Gamecocks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games on grass. The Gamecocks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

The Under is 6-1-2 in the Wolfpack’s last 9 non-conference games. The Under is 5-1 in the Wolfpack’s last 6 Thursday games. The Under is 5-2-1 in the Wolfpack’s last 8 road games.

The Under is 4-1 in the Gamecocks last 5 vs. the ACC. The Over is 23-9 in the Gamecocks last 32 home games.
