NBA Betting Preview San Antonio Spurs (29-13) at L.A Lakers (34-8) Western Conference powerhouses collide in a big game on Sunday inside the Los Angeles leads the NBA as the most potent scoring team in the league averaging 108 points per game. Kobe Bryant ranks 3rd in the NBA in scoring and also had a big game in the last meeting. Bryant’s 29 points, 10 assist, and 7 rebounds were not quite enough last time around. The Lakers also shot a very strong 56% in that meeting, but the Spurs simply edged them out in the end. Los Angeles will look to extract a bit of revenge this time around at home where they always play well. The Lakers are 22-3 inside the Staples Center and also an equal 22-3 against the Western Conference. Last year’s Western Conference match-up heats up again with the possibility of both teams meeting yet again on down the road. San Antonio got off to a sluggish start, but since has rebounded nicely. San Antonio has knocked off 4 straight wins and also 13 of their past 16 games. Tim Duncan is playing well with a double-double in 7 straight games. Duncan has produced 20.4 points this season along with 10.2 boards. Star guard Tony Parker has produced equal results with 20.4 points exactly while adding 7 assist per game. San Antonio has definitely come on strong in the past month of basketball and they will try to prove they belong among the best in the NBA. However, the task will not come easy considering a win at Los Angeles is hard to come by, but if they do pull off the victory it would make a huge statement for dethroning thee Lakers public perception as the best in the west. What to watch for… Pick – Lakers too tough at home. Take L.A -6.5 Posted by Jay Horne in Free Sports Picks, NBA Picks | No Comments »

NCAA Betting Preview Bookmaker.com betting line – Notre Dame -1 The No. 19 Notre Dame Fighting Irish will host the 3rd ranked Connecticut Huskies this Saturday in attempt to keep their 45 home game winning streak intact. The streak now leads all active home winning streaks and the Fighting Irish will face a tough task in holding on to that impressive tenure when they take on one of the best teams in America. Connecticut is among a number of one loss teams around the country that is fighting for the number 1 ranking in the nation. The Huskies have a chance to add another quality win to their resume this Saturday in what would be their 6th win over a top 25 opponent already this season. Notre Dame appeared to be an early contender among the elite Big East this season, but have had some troubles in recent weeks dropping their last two games and 3 of their last 5. The Fighting Irish were blown out by No. 8 Syracuse last Saturday by 19 points and they will be in desperate need to turn things around on their home floor where they have played extremely well over the last few years. The Fighting Irish have posted impressive scoring numbers this season averaging 81.2 points per game that ranks as one of the 15 best across the country. Luke Harangody is one of the best all around players in the country who ranks in the top 5 individually in both rebounds and points. Harangody sports a 24.8 and 12.9 rebound average every game and he will need a big performance again this Saturday. However, the task may come harder than usual with Connecticut’s 7’3” center Hasheem Thabeet. The Connecticut Huskies are a powerful team from all angles and can really wreak havoc on the inside. The Huskies have 5 starters all averaging at least 10 points per game lead by forward Jeff Adrien. Adrien nearly averages a double-double with 14.4 points and 9.6 rebounds every outing. The big man in the middle Hasheem Thabeet has averaged a double-double with 13.2 points and 10.1 boards. These two big guys could give the Huskies a big advantage if they could slow Luke Harangody and control the glass. The Huskies are shooting the nations 7th best 50% from the field while averaging an equally strong 40 rebounds per game. Connecticut will try to improve their recent stellar play by ending the longest home winning streak in the country with what would be a big win on the road. What to watch for… Pick – All streaks come to an end sometime and it will here. Take UConn +1 Posted by Jay Horne in College Basketball Picks, Free Sports Picks | No Comments »

Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies SBG Global Opening Line: Brewers – 120 , Total 8.5 Over – 115 The Milwaukee Brewers got a huge come from behind win on Wednesday as they defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-3, getting two runs in the eighth inning. Manager Ned Yost has not been one to panic even though his team just completed a 3-7 homestand. “I’ve got my own style and the way that I like to do things,” said Yost, “I think everybody wants to vent and scream and yell, but I just think that it’s more productive for me and my players if we take a calm approach.” The Brewers are still ahead of the Phillies, Cardinals and the hard charging Houston Astros in the Wild Card race. They send their top pitcher, Ben Sheets on Thursday at Philadelphia. SBG Global reports that early MLB betting has the public taking Brewers on the Road. The Phillies will turn to Jamie Moyer on Thursday. He will be working on three days of rest. “I’ve done it,” said Moyer, “I don’t think it’s that big of an issue. It’s my responsibility. I’m trying to do my job to the best that I can. If it’s on short rest, so be it. Sometimes you can be pretty sharp with an extra day or two extra days or you could be too strong.” Moyer has been the most consistent pitcher for the Phillies, leading the team in wins with 13. “He’s in tremendous shape, and he’s prepared,” Philadelphia manager Jerry Manuel said. Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers The Green Bay Packers will look decidedly different as they open up the 2008 regular season on Monday as long-time quarterback Brett Favre is gone and understudy Aaron Rodgers has the job. Rodgers will get a real test of what it should be like as he opens up at home against NFC North rival Minnesota. It has been Favre at quarterback since 1992 so things will definitely be different on Monday. “It’s been a difficult time the last few months as far as the attention I’ve gotten, but I think I’m ready for it.” Rodgers said, “I know it’s going to be amped up once the season starts, I’m going to be scrutinized, but that’s the job of being an NFL quarterback.” SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Packers at Home. Rodgers has a lot of weapons at his disposal. Receivers Donald Driver and Greg Jennings had more than 900 yards last season and running back Ryan Grant finished the season spectacularly. Green Bay also had a defense that was superb, allowing only 18.2 points per game last season, second in the NFC. “I think we’re going to be tough to run on, tough to pass on,” defensive tackle Ryan Pickett said. “I think we’ll be a top defense in the NFL.” Minnesota also has a tough defense. They were the best in the NFL last season against the run but struggled against the pass. That may change this season since they signed pass rushing specialist Jared Allen. The question for Minnesota is on offense where quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has yet to play well in the regular season. The good news is that the Vikings have one of the best players in the NFL in running back Adrian Peterson who had 1,341 yards rushing while scoring 13 touchdowns last season. SBG Global Current Line: Packers - 2.5 , Total 38 Here are the NFL betting stats for Monday’s game. The Vikings have lost the last four meeting against Green Bay. The Vikings are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in Week 1. The Vikings are 5-1-2 ATS in their last 8 games in September. The Vikings are 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 vs. NFC North. The Vikings are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings in Green Bay. The Underdog is 16-5 ATS in the last 21 meetings between the two teams and the road team is 10-2 ATS in the last 12 meetings. The Packers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The Packers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games. The Packers are 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 games overall. The Packers are 14-5-2 ATS in their last 21 vs. the NFC. The Packers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 vs. the NFC North. The Packers are 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 Monday games. The Under is 4-0 in the Vikings last 4 Monday games. The Under is 5-1-1 in the Vikings last 7 games in September. The Under is 6-2-1 in the Vikings last 9 road games. Cincinnati at Oklahoma SBG Global Opening Line: Oklahoma - 21 , Total 53.5 Two teams coming off blowout opening wins meet on Saturday as #4 Oklahoma hosts Cincinnati. The Sooners routed a hapless Chattanooga team 57-2 last week while the Bearcats routed Eastern Kentucky 40-7. Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns but only played into the second quarter before Oklahoma backups came in. Chris Brown had three rushing touchdowns and DeMarco Murray ran for 124 yards and two TDs. The Sooners defense was untouchable as the only Chattanooga score was on a safety. “It’s game one. You keep it in perspective,” Sooners defensive coordinator Brent Venables said. “There’s certainly things that you still don’t know about guys, but it’s off to a good start.” Cincinnati had no trouble last week against Eastern Kentucky as they gained 557 yards. Dustin Grutza threw for 296 yards and set a career high with three touchdown passes. This is the first ever meeting between the two teams. Oklahoma is 27-2 at Owen Field against non-conference opponents under head coach Bob Stoops winning by almost 30 points per game. Here are more NCAA Football betting stats for Saturdays’ game. 2008 Picks Record: 0-0 SBG Global Opening Line: Giants - 3.5 , Total 40 The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants begin the 2008 season at home against the Washington Redskins. It’s the second time in six seasons that the Redskins are part of the NFL’s first game of the season. They won in 2003 against the Jets 16-13. In 2004 the NFL started a tradition in which the previous season’s Super Bowl winner hosts the NFL Thursday night game to start the regular season. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Giants at Home. Thursday’s game is the first regular season test for Washington head coach Jim Zorn. The Redskins were 3-2 in the preseason as they had to play an extra week in the Hall of Fame game. The Giants finished the preseason at 2-2. The Giants didn’t play their starters much during the preseason and quarterback Eli Manning threw very few passes. A lot of starters missed time during the preseason. Wide receiver Plaxico Burress didn’t play at all and Amani Toomer caught just one pass. Manning didn’t even play in the preseason finale against New England. “I feel great,” Manning said. “I think our guys are ready and I think we have a slew of receivers who can play, so whoever they have in the game and whatever we do, we have a lot of weapons. I think that is a great situation to have. If we can have three wides or four wides, there is not one guy you have to target on and say, ‘Hey, we have to prevent this guy from getting catches.’ We can work to a number of receivers and guys do a good job of getting open. Our running attack is looking good with some healthy running backs, our line is looking good, so I feel positive about where our offense stands, where our team stands, and I am looking forward to the start of the season.” SBG Global Current Line: Giants - 3.5 , Total 41 Here are the NFL betting stats for Thursday’s game. The Redskins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Redskins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the NFC. The Redskins are 9-19-4 ATS in their last 32 games in September. The Redskins are 2-6-2 ATS in their last 10 games in Week 1. The Giants are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Giants are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Giants are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. the NFC. The Giants are 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 vs. the NFC East. The favorite is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings between the two teams. The Under is 5-0 in the Redskins last 5 games in Week 1. The Over is 5-2 in the Redskins last 7 road games. The Under is 17-8-3 in the Redskins last 28 vs. the NFC East. Colorado vs. Colorado State SBG Global Opening Line: Colorado - 12 , Total 56.5
Colorado State and Colorado resume their rivalry on Sunday at Invesco Field in Denver, Colorado. The Rams have a new head coach in Steve Fairchild after long-time coach Sonny Lubick decided to retire. The Rams were not very good in 2007, winning just three games. The Buffaloes were a little better as they won six games and made a bowl game. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Football betting has the public taking Colorado on the Road
Colorado returns quarterback Cody Hawkins, head coach Dan Hawkins’ son to lead the offense. The offense is young again this season with the leading receivers being sophomores Scotty McKnight and Josh Smith. The Colorado defense isn’t very good either and losing Jordon Dizon and Terrence Wheatley to the NFL is not going to help. SBG Global Current Line: Colorado - 12 , Total 56.5
Colorado State has to find a replacement for quarterback Caleb Hanie who moved on to the NFL. The team also has to replace all three of their leading receivers from last season. The good news for the Rams is that both Kyle Bell and Gattrell Johnson return to lead a powerful running game. The defense for Colorado State struggled last year, especially against the run, ranking 107th in the country against the rush.
Here are the NCAA Football betting stats for Sunday’s game. Colorado has owned the all-time series between the two teams, winning 58 while losing only 19. This rivalry dates back to 1893. The Buffaloes have won four of the last five meetings between the two teams including last year’s 31-28 overtime win. At Denver the teams have split eight meetings. The Buffaloes are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Buffaloes are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 vs. the Mountain West. The Buffaloes are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on grass.
The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Underdog is 10-2 ATS in their last 12 meetings.
The Over is 4-0 in the Buffaloes last 4 games on grass. The Over is 4-0 in the Buffaloes last 4 games overall. The Under is 9-2 in the Buffaloes last 11 non-conference games. The Over is 9-3 in the Buffaloes last 12 vs. the Mountain West. The Over is 7-2-1 in the Rams last 10 non-conference games. The Over is 10-4 in the Rams last 14 vs. the Big 12. Kentucky at Louisville SBG Global Opening Line: Louisville - 5 , Total 56.5 An exciting matchup should be in the offing on Sunday as Louisville hosts Kentucky in the battle for the Governor’s Cup. Kentucky was 8-5 last season but suffered a number of off-season losses and is looking at a rebuilding season. Louisville slipped to 6-6 last season and missed out on a bowl game for the first time in more than 10 years. Second year head coach Steve Kragthorpe is looking for better things this season. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Football betting has the public taking Louisville at Home. Kentucky has to replace a lot of talent from last season including quarterback Andre Woodson. Mike Hartline takes the reins this season for the Wildcats. Wide receiver Dicky Lyons returns after catching 56 balls last year while senior Tony Dixon returns to the lead the running game. The Kentucky defense last season was weak, giving up almost 30 points per game but they do return eight starters from last year’s squad. SBG Global Current Line: Louisville - 3.5 , Total 56.5 Louisville has to replace quarterback Brian Brohm and the task falls to senior quarterback Hunter Cantwell. He will have a new offensive coordinator in Jeff Brohm, brother of Brian. All of the receivers are also gone so Louisville is going to slip offensively this season. The defense is not in much better shape as just four starters return. Ron English is the new defensive coordinator for the Cardinals. Here is a look at the NCAA Football betting stats for Sunday’s game. Kentucky leads the all-time series, 11-9, although Louisville has won seven of the last nine meetings. Last year Kentucky won 40-34 on a 57-yard bomb in the final moments. The Wildcats are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The Wildcats are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Wildcats are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Wildcats are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Cardinals are 21-8 ATS in their last 29 non-conference games. The Cardinals are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Cardinals are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. The home team is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings between the two teams. The Over is 5-2 in the Wildcats last 7 games on grass. The Over is 4-1 in the Cardinals last 5 home games. The Under is 5-2 in the Cardinals last 7 vs. the SEC. College Picks Record: 2-0 +5units SBG Global Opening Line: Clemson - 6 , Total 46 A matchup of two Top 25 teams takes place at the Georgia Dome on Saturday as #9 Clemson takes on #24 Alabama. The Tigers are one of the favorites in the ACC this season but head coach Tommy Bowden has continually disappointed Clemson followers in recent seasons. Saturday’s opener is a major test for Bowden and Clemson after last season’s failure. “There’s always that frustration of not winning the championship. You’ll have to carry that label,” said Bowden. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Football betting has the public taking Alabama on the Road. The Tigers return a lot of talent this season, especially on offense. Quarterback Cullen Harper and tailbacks James Davis and C.J. Spiller lead a powerful offense. The question mark is on the offensive line where four starters must be replaced. “I think everybody’s saying, ‘Oh, they don’t deserve to be in the top 10. They always find a way to lose a game,’” Spiller said. “I think when we hold up that ACC trophy, we’ll be fine.” The Tigers also have an excellent defense but they do have to replace all four linebackers. Last season the Tigers finished in the Top 10 in scoring defense and total defense. Freshman Da’Quan Bowers is expected to make an immediate impact. Alabama finished last season at 7-6 under Nick Saban but they have a very highly touted recruiting class and much is expected from the Crimson Tide this season. Receivers Julio Jones and B.J. Scott are expected to contribute right away. “They’re good. They’re really good,” quarterback John Parker Wilson said. “Julio’s going to make some big plays this year. He can go up and get it. He can run by guys.” The Tide returns only five starters on defense so that could be a concern. Here are the NCAA Football betting stats for Saturday’s game. The Tide leads the all-time series with Clemson 11-3 although the teams haven’t met since 1975. The Crimson Tide are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The Crimson Tide are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Tigers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games. The Tigers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. the SEC. The Under is 13-6 in Alabama’s last 19 non-conference games. The Under is 6-1 in the Tigers last 7 vs. the SEC. The Under is 12-5 in the Tigers last 17 non-conference games. 2008 College Picks Record: 2-0 +5.00 units SBG Global Opening Line: Missouri - 8 , Total 59.5
One of the best games of the opening college football weekend should be in St. Louis as Illinois plays Missouri on Saturday night. Last season the Tigers defeated Illinois 40-34 in the season opener. The Tigers were one win away from the BCS title game last season while the Illini played in the Rose Bowl. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Football betting has the public taking Missouri at Home.
Missouri comes into the game ranked higher, simply for the fact that they return virtually everyone including quarterback Chase Daniel while Illinois lost Rashard Mendenhall to the NFL. This is a key game for both teams since neither has a difficult game for almost a month following this contest. The Illini have not found a replacement for Mendenhall and it is expected that both Daniel Dufrene and Troy Pollard will get playing time in this game.
The key player in this game will be Illinois quarterback Juice Williams. He has the potential to keep Illinois in the game and pull off the upset. Last season he did not play well in the loss to Mizzou. Eddie McGee came into the game in relief last year to make it close. This year it is all about Williams and he must play well or the Illini have no chance. Both teams have exciting receivers. The Illini have Arrelious Benn while Missouri has Jeremy Maclin. SBG Global Current Line: Missouri - 8.5 , Total 59.5
Here are the NCAA Football betting stats for Saturday’s game. Last season the Illini were 0-3 when allowing more than 26 points, while Missouri scored fewer than 31 points in just one game. The Fighting Illini are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.
The Tigers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games on turf. The Tigers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games. The Tigers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games. The Tigers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. the Big Ten. The Tigers are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games overall
The Over is 4-0 in Illinois’ last 4 games overall. The Over is 5-1 in the Fighting Illini’s last 6 games on turf. The Over is 9-4 in the Fighting Illini’s last 13 non-conference games.
The Over is 5-0 in the Tigers last 5 games on turf. The Over is 4-1 in the Tigers last 5 non-conference games. PICK: Missouri 3units Posted by admin in College Football Picks, Free Sports Picks | No Comments »
