The big news over the last couple of days is the new contract that was signed by Eli Manning. Eli has agreed to a new six-year, $97-million contract extension with the New York Giants that will make him the highest-paid player in the NFL, with an average salary of roughly $15.3 million. Now I can’t blame the guy, but the inevitable would happen and sure enough it did. Since he now becomes the highest paid player in the league the question is does he deserve it? Before we break that down I want to make one thing clear. Regardless of talent or team any player that is offered a boat load of cash and takes it is okay in my book, after all that is the American dream. Now back to the topic at hand.
Giant fans will say he deserves it. He won a superbowl in the toughest media market in the world. He rallied late against one of the best teams in the history of the NFL to win it. He does not have the best supporting cast and can handle scrutiny from the media as well as other players. In a nutshell he gets the job done.
On the other hand when it comes to the best player in the NFL Manning is far from #1 and when we talk about best quarterbacks in the league he falls very short. Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, and even big brother Peyton are better quarterbacks. There is a big difference between getting paid like the best player in the NFL and being the best player. Did you know that the top player salaries in the NFL right now belong to Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, and Julius Peppers? They are hardly the elite of the league although very talented.
The bottom line is if you can get the money, than go get it, and Eli got it. Now we will see how he can really handle the pressure.
The sports world always gives me plenty of things to rant about but this week they have gone the extra mile. This week I rant about Donte Stallworth and the commissioner, Plaxico Burress, and while Twitter is changing the sports world.
It was announced today that NFL Commissioner Roger Godell will do what the justice system did not, punish Donte Stallworth. The NFL suspended the Cleveland Brown wide receiver indefinitely and he will not be paid during the suspension. Stallworth pleaded guilty this month to a DUI manslaughter charge for striking Mario Reyes on March 14 in Florida. He has already started his 30 day jails sentence for the crime, and although there was a list of other punishments, the sentence was a joke. I know this NFL suspension will be appealed and maybe even over turned this year but at least the commissioner is taking this seriously, something the courts forgot to do.
It looks like the commissioner will have a busy week ahead of him as next he has to decide on the fate of Ex-New York Giants wide receiver, Plaxico Burress. There is a good chance he will have to let him play since the courts have not fond him guilty of anything yet and the Giants looked the other way on this one. The question is do you want him on your team? The rumors are flying that the Bears want him and that Jay Cutler sent him a text telling him to sign with the Bears. Cutler denies that he texted Plaxico, but it might be an interesting fit. The problem is this would be at best a one year rental and the guy is a wreck in the locker room and a horrible teammate. Tim Hasslebeck played with Plaxico and he had this to say about the troubled wide receiver. “I played with the guy. I was in the locker room with him for two years. He’s a disaster as a teammate. He’s a disaster as a guy that you have to coach.” Why take a chance on a guy like this? I say let him sit out a year but you know that won’t happen.
Lastly it’s hard to go throughout a day without hearing abut Twitter in the sports world. This week was no exception as Kevin Love scooped the media and his front office by announcing that head coach Kevin McHale was not coming back to the Timber wolves next year. I know it’s the new thing to do and even I have a Twitter account (@MRegaw) but the sports world better adjust. Kevin Love meant no harm and was sad to see him go but he made his management look bad. Kevin McHale did plenty for this franchise and deserved better than this as well. My suggestion to T’Wolves owner Glen Taylor is to open a Twitter account and change with the times!

NFL Playoff Preview
Philadelphia Eagles (10-6-1) at New York Giants (12-4)
Sunday, 1:00PM Eastern
Bookmaker.com betting line – New York -4, 40 O/U
Two NFC East rivals are scheduled to battle for the 3rd time this season when the Philadelphia Eagles travel to take on the New York Giants. Both earlier match-ups were decided by less than a touchdown with each time scoring a victory once. However, this game will be much bigger than the previous two battles considering the winner this time will move on to play in the NFC Championship. The Giants were the class of the NFC all season, but face the challenge to hold off a dangerously hot Philadelphia team who has really come on strong in the late part of the year.
New York struggled through the month of December losing 3 of their last 4 games. The Giants offense has really lost their early season form and has struggled to produce points in recent weeks. The Giants own the 3rd best scoring offense in the NFL at 26 points per game. However, New York only averaged 18 points in their final 4 games and it is imperative they get the offense back to top form. The Giants have two running backs that have eclipsed the 1,000 yard barrier on the season in Derrick Ward and Brandon Jacobs. The Giants strong running game will battle a strong defensive front from the Philadelphia Eagles this season. The Giants running game will need to come up big considering the passing game has been missing in action the latter part of the season. QB Eli Manning highest game total is 191 yards of passing in his last 4 games. The Giants need Manning to be more effective this weekend in a huge rivalry game.
Philadelphia has played as well as anyone in the NFC the 2nd half of the season. The Eagles defense has simply been outstanding in recent weeks. The Philadelphia defense has held teams to a staggering 10.8 points per game in their last 5 outings against some really quality teams. QB Donovan McNabb has got the offense rolling again overcoming some mid-season turmoil that had the offense under the microscope. McNabb threw for 300 yards last week against the Vikings in the Wildcard Playoff Game and he will need another big performance this Sunday. Also running back Michael Westbrook will be a player to keep an eye on for the Eagles. Westbrook has big play capability and could be a difference maker this weekend.
What to watch for…
The Giants offense against the Philadelphia defense will be fun to watch. The Eagles defense has to be prepared to stop the run and most-likely will do so especially early in the game. The Giants will need Eli Manning and the struggling passing attack to add some key support. The Giants passing game will be the deciding factor in an anticipated defensive battle.

NFL Betting Preview
Carolina Panthers (11-3) at New York Giants (11-3)
Sunday, 8:15PM Eastern
Beted.com betting line – New York Giants -3, 39 O/U
The NFC home field advantage will be determined this Sunday night one two of the best teams in the conference meet in an epic grudge match. The Carolina Panthers and New York Giants both have the best records in the NFC at 11-3. Each team is one win away from claiming home field advantage throughout the playoffs and you can expect to see a great game this Sunday night. The Giants have lost two games in a row after starting the season 11-1 while Carolina has been the hottest team in the NFL in recent weeks winning 3 straight games.
The Panthers have captured two really big wins in their last two outings. Carolina hopes to continue their success this Sunday when they travel to East Rutherford to battle the Giants. The Panthers running game has been superb lately and they rank 4th in the NFL in rushing yards per game. Tailbacks DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart have shared carries and both been extremely effective. Williams has over 1200 yards on the season while Stewart is about 200 yards shy of the 1,000 yard make. The two backs have accounted for 23 touchdowns this season and they hope to keep the ground game moving this week. Also, the Panthers defense has been playing well putting a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
New York has dropped two straight games to NFC East foes and look to rebound this weekend at home. The Giants troubles started a few weeks ago with some off the field trouble by star wide receiver Plexico Burress. Burress is officially out for the season and the offense just not has found the fire power since. The Giants have averaged 26 points per game this season, but have not scored more than 14 points in their last 3 games. The offense must get back to early season form or the Giants will likely continue to struggle. The New York defense has played well despite the offenses struggles and they will need to hang in there until the offense can turn things around.
What to watch for…
The Panther running game is the huge factor in this game. Carolina needs at least one of their two impressive backs to establish the ground game. If that happens, WR Steve Smith will likely get some big plays and the Panthers will continue to roll. The Giants have to find some answers on offense. This team has not looked nothing like the team that was so strong early in the year. QB Eli Manning needs to find some new targets and open up the playbook against the Panthers.
Betting Trends and Stats…
The Giants are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games at home and also 6-1 SU in their past 7 games at home. New York is 16-4 ATS in their last 20 games while reaching the under in the last 3 games. Carolina is 7-1 SU in their past 8 games and 4-2ATS in their last 6 games. The Panthers have gone on the over total in 4 of their last 5 games and also gone on the over total in 6 of their last 9 games on the road. New York won the last meeting between these two teams 27-13 back in 2006.

NFL Betting Preview
New York Giants (11-2) at Dallas Cowboys (8-5)
Sunday, 8:15PM Eastern
Written By: Jay Horne
SBG Global Betting Line- Dallas -3, 45 O/U
The New York Giants have already clinched the NFC East and they look to earn the right for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Giants have a first round bye in the playoffs and they play a Dallas Cowboys team that is in dire need of a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Cowboys are in a battle for perhaps the final wildcard position in the NFC and a loss would really hurt their chances. The Giants were upset last week by the Eagles and are ready to bounce back against the hungry Cowboys.
Dallas blew a 10 point lead with 7 minutes to go in the game last week against Pittsburgh. The loss really devastated the postseason outlook and the Cowboys must match-up better against the Giants than they did earlier this season. In the first meeting, New York pounded the Cowboys 35-14. Last week, QB Tony Romo struggled in the windy Pittsburgh weather. Romo and the high power offense need to have a big game this weekend to defeat most likely the best team in the NFC. The Cowboys have played horribly in the month of December over the years going 3-7 in their last 10 games in the final month of the year.
New York suffered a tough defeat from the Philadelphia Eagles last week 20-13 and will be trying to avoid another division defeat. The former Super Bowl Champions have been the class of the NFC all season led by quarterback Eli Manning. However, before last week’s game WR star Plexico Burress stirred up a bunch of media attention when he accidentally shot himself. The attention may have caused the Giants to lose focus, but things have settled down and New York will look to bounce back in a big way. The Giants have already clinched a first round bye in the playoffs, but another win would nearly guarantee home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
SBG Global Betting Line- Dallas -3, Total 45
The betting lines are favoring Dallas by 3 points primarily due to the fact this is a must win game and they should be giving their very best effort. The total for the contest has been posted at 45. The last meeting earlier in the season, the total in the game amounted to 49 points and this series has favored the over in recent years. The past 3 seasons the over total has gone on the over in 4 of 6 games.
Betting Stats –
Dallas has gone 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games and 4-2 SU in those 6 games as well. The Cowboys are only 6-12 ATS in their past 18 games while reaching the under total in 4 of the past 6 match-ups. New York is 7-1 ATS in their previous 8 games while having an amazing mark of 13-1 ATS in their last 14 games on the road. The Giants are an outstanding 14-1 SU in their last 15 games on the road. New York has also won the last 3 out of 4 games against the Cowboys.

NFL Betting Preview
New York Giants (10-1) at Washington Redskins (7-4)
Sunday, 1:00 pm Eastern – FOX
SBG Global Opening Line: Giants - 3.5 , Total 41.5
The Washington Redskins will try and slow down the NFL’s best team as they host the New York Giants on Sunday. There was little doubt among most people who the best team in the NFL was even before Tennessee lost last week. Now there is no debate. The Giants hold a three-game lead over Washington and Dallas in the NFC East and a two game lead over Tampa Bay and Carolina for home field advantage in the NFC. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Giants on the Road.
The Redskins are in prime position to make the playoffs but the NFC is very competitive and a loss on Sunday against the Giants would throw them back into the pack. The Redskins will have a tough time on both sides of the ball against New York. Washington wins games when Clinton Portis runs effectively and Jason Campbell avoids making mistakes. The problem for Washington lately has been that Portis has been dinged up and Campbell has been sacked 12 times and thrown three interceptions in the last three games. Mistakes like those against the Giants will result in a loss on Sunday.
Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Giants are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. the NFC East. The Giants are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in November. The Giants are 23-6 ATS in their last 29 games overall. The Giants are 21-6 ATS in their last 27 road games. The Giants are 24-8-1 ATS in their last 33 vs. the NFC. The Giants are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between the two teams. The favorite is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.
The Redskins are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. the NFC East. Redskins are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Redskins are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games in November. The Redskins are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.
SBG Global Current Line: Giants - 3.5 , Total 41.5
The Over is 4-0-1 in the Giants last 5 games in November. The Over is 5-1 in the Giants last 6 vs. the NFC. The Over is 4-1 in the Giants last 5 road games. The Over is 7-2-1 in the Giants last 10 games overall. The Under is 5-0 in the Redskins last 5 home games. The Under is 6-0-1 in the Redskins last 7 games overall. New York Giants (9-1) at Arizona Cardinals (7-3)
Sunday, 4:15 pm Eastern – FOX
SBG Global Opening Line: Giants - 3 , Total 48.5
Two teams that are almost assuredly headed for the playoffs meet on Sunday as the Arizona Cardinals host the New York Giants. New York is running away with the NFC East while the Cardinals have virtually clinched the NFC West. Both teams come into the game on a roll as the Giants routed Baltimore last week for their fifth straight win while Arizona took out Seattle. The Giants come into the game with the NFL’s best running attack while the Cardinals have the league’s second best passing attack. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Giants on the Road.
The game on Sunday could come down to the New York secondary against the receiving corps of Arizona. The Cardinals are averaging 305.8 passing yards per game. Larry Fitzgerald has 939 yards and Anquan Boldin has 792 yards. New York will try and contain those receivers and put some kind of pressure on quarterback Kurt Warner. “They have a great quarterback and a lot of great guys at the skill positions so it is going to be all hands on deck, and anything that we can possibly do to stay close to their skill positions and know where they are at all times is going to be a plus for us,” New York cornerback Corey Webster said.
Arizona is 10-2 at home under head coach Ken Whisenhunt. The Giants have won five of the last seven meetings against Arizona. Here are more NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Giants are 11-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Giants are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in November.
The Giants are 20-6 ATS in their last 26 road games. The Giants are 23-8-1 ATS in their last 32 vs. the NFC.
The Cardinals are 6-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Cardinals are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Cardinals are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the NFC.
SBG Global Current Line: Giants - 3 , Total 48
The Over is 5-1-1 in the Giants last 7 games in November. The Over is 6-2-1 in the Giants last 9 games overall. The Over is 6-0 in the Cardinals last 6 home games. The Over is 23-9 in the Cardinals last 32 games overall.
The Over is 36-17 in the Cardinals last 53 vs. the NFC. The Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Arizona between the two teams.

NFL Betting Preview
New York Giants (7-1) at Philadelphia Eagles (5-3)
Sunday, 8:20 pm Eastern – NBC
SBG Global Opening Line: Eagles - 3 , Total 43
The New York Giants could put some serious distance between themselves and the Philadelphia Eagles with a win on Sunday night. The Giants have looked every bit the part of Super Bowl champs this season going 7-1 but they get a tough test on Sunday at Philadelphia. The Eagles are considered serious playoff contenders and are actually favored against the Giants in this game. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Eagles at Home.
The Giants have been helped by a fairly easy schedule so far this season but in the NFL a win is a win. “We are trying to improve every week. We have a lot of drive in us,” quarterback Eli Manning said. “We know that we have a tough road ahead of us and it is matter of we have to keep playing at a high level.” Count Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid as a believer in the Giants. “I think they are as good as they’ve ever been,” Reid said, “They are playing very well as a team both offensively and defensively” The Giants have won three of their last four visits to Philadelphia with the only loss coming in the 2007 playoff game. “Philly is my favorite road stadium because the fans absolutely hate everybody that moves in an opponent’s jersey,” New York defensive end Justin Tuck said. “I kind of like being hated.”
Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Giants are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games on grass. The Giants are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the NFC East. The Giants are 20-6 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The Giants are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 road games. The Giants are 17-35-2 ATS in their last 54 games in November. The Giants are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between the two teams. The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings and the underdog is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings.
The Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in November. The Eagles are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. the NFC. The Eagles are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
SBG Global Current Line: Eagles - 3 , Total 43
The Under is 4-1 in the Giants last 5 vs. the NFC East. The Over is 4-1 in the Giants last 5 games in November. The Over is 5-2 in the Giants last 7 games overall. The Under is 10-4 in the Giants last 14 road games. The Under is 6-0 in the Eagles last 6 home games. The Under is 15-6 in the Eagles last 21 games on grass. The Under is 7-3 in the Eagles last 10 vs. the NFC East.

NFL Betting Preview
New York Giants (5-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1)
Sunday, 4:15 pm Eastern – FOX
SBG Global Opening Line: Steelers - 2.5 , Total 42
The best matchup in Week 8 is definitely on FOX television late Sunday afternoon as the 5-1 Pittsburgh Steelers host the 5-1 New York Giants. The Giants are defending Super Bowl champs and have looked the part this season while the Steelers look to be one of the top teams in the AFC. Both quarterbacks, New York’s Eli Manning and Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger have led their teams to Super Bowl titles and are looking to do so again this season. “There’s always that little thing inside of you that wants to be the best, so I’ve got to get another Super Bowl before he does,” Roethlisberger said. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Steelers at Home.
The Steelers have relied greatly on their defense this season which is first in the NFL in total defense and second in points allowed. The Pittsburgh offense is efficient enough as well with Roethlisberger clicking most of the time. The Steelers could also get a boost from the return of Willie Parker who may return for this game. The Steelers look to be getting healthy as it is possible that fullback Carey Davis and nose tackle Casey Hampton might also play on Sunday.
The Giants have been relying more on their offense in their victories. New York is second in the NFL in total offense and first in rushing. The matchup on Sunday between their ground attack and Pittsburgh’s run defense should be interesting to watch.
Pittsburgh and New York last played in 2004 and the Steelers came away with the victory. The teams have split their last four meetings overall. Here are more NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Giants are 6-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Giants are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games in October. The Giants are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 road games.
The Steelers are 24-8-1 ATS in their last 33 games in October. The Steelers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games vs. a team with a winning record.
SBG Global Current Line: Steelers - 3 , Total 42
The Over is 4-1 in the Giants last 5 games overall. The Under is 9-4 in the Giants last 13 road games. The Over is 8-2 in the Steelers last 10 games overall. The Over is 42-15-2 in the Steelers last 59 home games.

NFL Betting Preview
New York Giants (4-0) at Cleveland Browns (1-3)
Monday, 8:35 pm Eastern – ESPN
SBG Global Opening Line: Giants – 7 , Total 43
The New York Giants are looking every bit like Super Bowl champs so far this season. They are one of only two unbeaten teams in the NFL and seem to be getting better each week. They shellacked the Seattle Seahawks last week 44-6 and this week they get wide receiver Plaxico Burress back from a one game suspension. Quarterback Eli Manning is playing as well as anyone in the league and everything is clicking for the Giants. “Each time we play, he plays a little bit better.” Head coach Tom Coughlin said about Manning. The last time the Giants started a season 4-0 they won the Super Bowl. On the other side of the ball, the Cleveland Browns have done very little this season, disappointing many people who predicted they would be AFC contenders this season. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Giants on the Road.
The Browns lead the overall series against the Giants 25-19-2 but New York has won the last four meetings between the two teams. The last time the Browns were on Monday Night Football was in 2003. Here are more NFL betting stats for Monday’s game. The Giants are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games on grass. The Giants are 14-3-1 ATS in their last 18 games in October. The Giants are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 road games. The Giants are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The Giants are 9-4 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. The Giants are 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 Monday games. The Giants are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a bye week.
The Browns are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 home games. The Browns are 11-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Browns are 13-4 ATS in their last 17 games on grass. The Browns are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 games overall.
SBG Global Current Line: Giants – 7 , Total 43
The Under is 7-0-1 in the Giants last 8 games in Week 6. The Under is 4-1 in the Giants last 5 Monday games. The Under is 9-3 in the Giants last 12 road games. The Under is 11-4 in the Giants last 15 games following a bye week.
The Under is 5-0 in the Browns last 5 home games. The Under is 9-1 in the Browns last 10 games on grass. The Under is 9-1 in the Browns last 10 games overall. The Over is 5-2 in the Browns last 7 games following a bye week.
