The sports world always gives me plenty of things to rant about but this week they have gone the extra mile. This week I rant about Donte Stallworth and the commissioner, Plaxico Burress, and while Twitter is changing the sports world.
It was announced today that NFL Commissioner Roger Godell will do what the justice system did not, punish Donte Stallworth. The NFL suspended the Cleveland Brown wide receiver indefinitely and he will not be paid during the suspension. Stallworth pleaded guilty this month to a DUI manslaughter charge for striking Mario Reyes on March 14 in Florida. He has already started his 30 day jails sentence for the crime, and although there was a list of other punishments, the sentence was a joke. I know this NFL suspension will be appealed and maybe even over turned this year but at least the commissioner is taking this seriously, something the courts forgot to do.
It looks like the commissioner will have a busy week ahead of him as next he has to decide on the fate of Ex-New York Giants wide receiver, Plaxico Burress. There is a good chance he will have to let him play since the courts have not fond him guilty of anything yet and the Giants looked the other way on this one. The question is do you want him on your team? The rumors are flying that the Bears want him and that Jay Cutler sent him a text telling him to sign with the Bears. Cutler denies that he texted Plaxico, but it might be an interesting fit. The problem is this would be at best a one year rental and the guy is a wreck in the locker room and a horrible teammate. Tim Hasslebeck played with Plaxico and he had this to say about the troubled wide receiver. “I played with the guy. I was in the locker room with him for two years. He’s a disaster as a teammate. He’s a disaster as a guy that you have to coach.” Why take a chance on a guy like this? I say let him sit out a year but you know that won’t happen.
Lastly it’s hard to go throughout a day without hearing abut Twitter in the sports world. This week was no exception as Kevin Love scooped the media and his front office by announcing that head coach Kevin McHale was not coming back to the Timber wolves next year. I know it’s the new thing to do and even I have a Twitter account (@MRegaw) but the sports world better adjust. Kevin Love meant no harm and was sad to see him go but he made his management look bad. Kevin McHale did plenty for this franchise and deserved better than this as well. My suggestion to T’Wolves owner Glen Taylor is to open a Twitter account and change with the times!

NFL Betting Preview
Cleveland Browns (4-9) at Philadelphia Eagles (7-5-1)
Monday, 8:35 pm Eastern – ESPN
SBG Global Opening Line: Eagles - 14 , Total 38.5
The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to continue their playoff push as they host the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football. The Eagles proved last week in their win against the Giants that they are still playoff contenders. “Anything can happen in the NFL, so you just have to make sure that you take care of your business and you can’t worry about really anything else,” head coach Andy Reid said. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Eagles at Home.
The Eagles are not expected to be challenged by a Cleveland team that is already looking for a new coach as Romeo Crennel is expected to be let go at the end of the season. “I can’t be worried about that,” Crennel said, “Rumors and stories, they’re going to be out there. When you lose, that’s what happens. Not only for me but for other people in the league.” The Browns have averaged only 7 points on offense the last three games and that total doesn’t look to get any better against a tough Eagles defense. Third string quarterback Ken Dorsey gets another start this week and he can’t be much worse than he was a week ago in a 28-9 loss to Tennessee.
Philadelphia has looked like a different team since Brian Westbrook got healthy. He had 22 carries for 110 yards two weeks ago and a career-high 33 times for 131 yards against the Giants last week. “We’re in a position now where we have to win them all,” Westbrook said. “We’re going to take them one week at a time but we have to win them all to get into the playoffs.” The Cleveland run defense ranks 28th in the league so Westbrook could have another huge day.
Here are the NFL betting stats for Monday’s game. The Browns are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog. The Browns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Browns are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Monday games. The Eagles are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a win.
SBG Global Current Line: Eagles - 14 , Total 39
The Under is 7-1 in the Browns last 8 games in December. The Under is 12-5 in the Browns last 17 games on grass. The Under is 13-6 in the Browns last 19 games overall. The Under is 4-1 in the Eagles last 5 games in December. The Under is 23-7-3 in the Eagles last 33 games as a home favorite. The Under is 13-6-2 in the Eagles last 21 Monday games.

NFL Betting Preview
Cleveland Browns (3-6) at Buffalo Bills (5-4)
Monday, 8:35 pm Eastern – ESPN
SBG Global Opening Line: Bills - 4 , Total 43
The Buffalo Bills were the talk of the NFL early in the season as they led the AFC East but after three straight losses, very few people are talking about them anymore. The Bills will try and right the ship on Monday night as they host the Cleveland Browns. The Bills had only 168 yards of total offense in last week’s 20-10 loss to New England. “We have to get our swagger back,” running back Fred Jackson said. “Going into these last couple of weeks, we haven’t had that normal swagger that we usually have. … That’s something we want to address, because we know we’re better than we’re playing.” Buffalo will definitely look for better play out of quarterback Trent Edwards who has thrown five interceptions during the losing streak. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Browns on the Road.
The Cleveland Browns are in danger of falling out of the playoff race at 3-6 and after blowing leads in their last two games, some players on the team have even questioned the team’s commitment. “This is as frustrated as I’ve been in as many years as I’ve been playing,” said running back Jamal Lewis, “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. I’m just not cut from this kind of cloth. I play physical football. I come out here and give it my all – all week. This is the NFL. You can’t call it quits until the game is over. But it looks to me like some people call it quits before that.” The main problem for Cleveland has been a defense that is full of holes. They have allowed an average of 496.5 yards in their last two games. If that continues the Browns will probably be looking for a new coach as Romeo Crennel is feeling the heat.
Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Browns are 17-7 ATS in their last 24 games overall. The Browns are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games.
The Bills are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 home games. The Bills are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Bills are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games in November.
SBG Global Current Line: Bills - 5 , Total 41
The Under is 6-1 in the Browns last 7 road games. The Under is 11-4 in the Browns last 15 games overall. The Over is 4-0 in the Bills last 4 Monday games. The Over is 6-1-1 in the Bills last 8 home games. The Over is 5-2-1 in the Bills last 8 games in November.

Denver Broncos (4-4) at Cleveland Browns (3-5)
Thursday, 8:15 pm Eastern – NFL Network
SBG Global Opening Line: Browns - 3 , Total 46.5
The time has come in Cleveland for quarterback Brady Quinn. After playing behind Derek Anderson last season and for the first eight games this season, Quinn will get the start on Thursday as the Browns host the Denver Broncos. Anderson was a Pro-Bowler last season but has looked lost most of the time this year. He was 17 of 33 on Sunday for 219 yards against the Ravens but threw an interception to Terrell Suggs that was run in for a touchdown that clinched the game for Baltimore. “It’s deflating when they run the ball in for a touchdown,” head coach Romeo Crennel said, “It’s deflating when they throw the ball over your head. It’s deflating when you don’t make a catch in the open. It’s deflating when you lose a game.” Thursday’s game is the first of the regular season for the NFL Network so get used to Thursday night action the rest of the season. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Broncos on the Road.
Cleveland is just 27th in the NFL in offense and head coach Crennel decided it was time for Quinn. It is a short week for Quinn but he does get to face a Denver defense that is terrible. The Broncos are 29th in the league and haven’t stopped anyone all season. It won’t get any better for the Broncos on defense considering they lost weak-side linebacker D.J. Williams to injury against Miami. He was the leading tackler for Denver this season.
Denver is already without Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey, who’s out at least a month, and his brother, Boss, who’s out for the season. They could also be without safety Marlon McCree who was hurt this past Sunday. The injuries carry over to the offense as running backs Andre Hall (left hand) and Michael Pittman (neck) were placed on IR this week.
SBG Global Current Line: Browns - 3 , Total 46
The Broncos have won all three meetings since Cleveland got a team again including the only meeting in Cleveland in 2006. Denver is 2-1 against the spread in those matchups. Their one pointspread loss was at Denver. Two of those games went over the total. The only game in Cleveland in 2006 did go under as the Broncos won 17-7. Here are more NFL betting stats for Thursday’s game. The Browns are over 70% as a home favorite the past three years. The Broncos have gone over the total on the road more than 60% of the time the past three years.

NFL Betting Preview
New York Giants (4-0) at Cleveland Browns (1-3)
Monday, 8:35 pm Eastern – ESPN
SBG Global Opening Line: Giants – 7 , Total 43
The New York Giants are looking every bit like Super Bowl champs so far this season. They are one of only two unbeaten teams in the NFL and seem to be getting better each week. They shellacked the Seattle Seahawks last week 44-6 and this week they get wide receiver Plaxico Burress back from a one game suspension. Quarterback Eli Manning is playing as well as anyone in the league and everything is clicking for the Giants. “Each time we play, he plays a little bit better.” Head coach Tom Coughlin said about Manning. The last time the Giants started a season 4-0 they won the Super Bowl. On the other side of the ball, the Cleveland Browns have done very little this season, disappointing many people who predicted they would be AFC contenders this season. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Giants on the Road.
The Browns lead the overall series against the Giants 25-19-2 but New York has won the last four meetings between the two teams. The last time the Browns were on Monday Night Football was in 2003. Here are more NFL betting stats for Monday’s game. The Giants are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games on grass. The Giants are 14-3-1 ATS in their last 18 games in October. The Giants are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 road games. The Giants are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The Giants are 9-4 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. The Giants are 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 Monday games. The Giants are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a bye week.
The Browns are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 home games. The Browns are 11-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Browns are 13-4 ATS in their last 17 games on grass. The Browns are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 games overall.
SBG Global Current Line: Giants – 7 , Total 43
The Under is 7-0-1 in the Giants last 8 games in Week 6. The Under is 4-1 in the Giants last 5 Monday games. The Under is 9-3 in the Giants last 12 road games. The Under is 11-4 in the Giants last 15 games following a bye week.
The Under is 5-0 in the Browns last 5 home games. The Under is 9-1 in the Browns last 10 games on grass. The Under is 9-1 in the Browns last 10 games overall. The Over is 5-2 in the Browns last 7 games following a bye week.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns
Sunday, 8:15 pm Eastern – NBC
SBG Global Opening Line: Steelers - .5 , Total 44
The Pittsburgh Steelers will try for their 10th straight win over the Cleveland Browns as the two teams meet on Sunday night. The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 55 wins each but Pittsburgh has owned the Browns of late. They have won 15 of the last 18 meetings, including the last nine. Cleveland will be looking to bounce back from a poor effort last week against Dallas. Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin does not believe Sunday’s game will be easy for his Steelers. “We have evidence that they are capable of putting what happens behind them in Week 1 and getting better,” he said. “They will come ready to play.” SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Steelers on the Road.
Pittsburgh running back Willie Parker has run over the Browns in recent meetings, running for at least 100 yards in each of his last three games against Cleveland. The Browns will also have to stop Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger who is 7-0 against Cleveland in his career. Cleveland’s defense gave up 487 yards in the loss to Dallas last week.
Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Steelers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The Steelers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. the AFC North. The Steelers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Steelers are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games in Week 2. The Steelers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Cleveland. The favorite is 6-1-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings and the road team is 7-3-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings between the two teams.
The Browns are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games. The Browns are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. the AFC. The Browns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the AFC North. The Browns are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games on grass. The Browns are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
SBG Global Current Line: Steelers - 6 , Total 44.5

NFL Betting Preview
Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Browns
Sunday, 4:15 pm Eastern – FOX
SBG Global Opening Line: Cowboys - 3 , Total 48.5
The nationally televised late game Sunday on FOX has the Cleveland Browns hosting the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are one of the Super Bowl favorites this year while the Browns are the trendy pick by some to be a contender in the AFC. The Cowboys are coming off another playoff failure, as last season they went 13-3 in the regular season but lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants in the divisional playoffs. “We obviously didn’t finish the season the way we wanted to last year.” Dallas wide receiver Terrell Owens said, “This is another opportunity, another year, to erase those negative thoughts.” SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Cowboys on the Road.
The Cowboys had the third ranked offense in the league last season at 365.7 yards per game. The defense was ninth best, holding opponents to 307.6 yards per game. Quarterback Tony Romo was third in the league with 4,211 passing yards and second with 36 touchdowns.
The Browns look to build upon last year’s success when they were 10-6 but failed to make the playoffs. The Cleveland offense was eighth in total yards last season and quarterback Derek Anderson had 3,787 yards and 29 TDs.
The problem last season for Cleveland was on defense but the Browns added nose tackle Shaun Rogers and defensive tackle Corey Williams in the offseason. “Everyone is excited that they’re here,” said linebacker Willie McGinest, “We know what they can do. They’re very high-level players and should complement the guys that are already here.”
Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The two teams last met in 2004 at Dallas when the Cowboys won 19-12. The Cowboys are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The Cowboys are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
The Browns are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 home games. The Browns are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games on grass. The Browns are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Browns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September.
The Browns are 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 games in Week 1.
SBG Global Current Line: Cowboys - 5.5 , Total 49
The Under is 4-0 in the Cowboys last 4 games overall. The Over is 5-1-1 in the Cowboys last 7 games in September. The Over is 13-4-2 in the Cowboys last 19 road games.
The Under is 6-0 in the Browns last 6 games overall. The Over is 4-1-1 in the Browns last 6 games in September. The Under is 4-1 in the Browns last 5 games in Week 1.

NFL Preseason Betting Preview
Cleveland Browns at New York Giants
Monday, 8:00 pm Eastern – ESPN
SBG Global Opening Line: Giants - 3.5 , Total 35.5
The New York Giants play a home game for the first time since last December as they host the Cleveland Browns in preseason action on Monday night. The Giants won all of their playoff games last season on the road and played at Detroit last week in their preseason opener. The Giants looked rusty last week against the Lions, losing 13-10. Eli Manning was just 2 of 6 for 19 yards in limited time. “It’s the first preseason game,” head coach Tom Coughlin said. “You’d like to win them all, but we didn’t win. The idea is improving between the first and second game.” Both backup quarterbacks, David Carr and Anthony Wright did play well though as they battle for the second string quarterback job behind Manning. Wide receivers Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer did not play last week and are doubtful for Monday’s game. The Giants are also without Super Bowl hero David Tyree while Steve Smith and rookie Mario Manningham are also questionable.
SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Browns on the Road.
Cleveland opened up the preseason last week by losing to the New York Jets 24-20. The Browns blew a 20-10 fourth quarter lead in that game and head coach Romeo Crennel was not very happy. “There was some good, some bad, but ultimately we still lost the game.” he said. Starting quarterback Derek Anderson played briefly and completed 4 of 5 passes including a TD throw to Braylon Edwards. Brady Quinn also played well in relief. Edwards will not play this week against the Giants after suffering a cut on his foot that required stitches. Monday’s game could be very bland and boring considering the two teams will meet in the regular season in October, so they may not want to show much in this preseason game.
NFL betting stats show that the Giants have an 8-7 advantage in the all-time preseason series against Cleveland. The last preseason meeting was in 2005 when the Giants lost 17-14 to the Browns.
SBG Global Current Line: Giants - 2 , Total 35.5
Fans of the Cleveland Browns will get to see a lot of them this season. The Browns are on prime-time television at least five times this season, not including Monday’s preseason game.
Pick: Giants 4 units
