NFL Betting Preview
Cincinnati Bengals (1-8-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3)
Thursday, 8:15 pm Eastern – NFL Network

SBG Global Opening Line: Steelers  -  10   ,  Total  34.5

The Pittsburgh Steelers will try and avoiding having a letdown as they host the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night.  The Steelers blew away the Bengals 38-10 earlier this season as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes.  Big Ben threw for 308 yards last week in the Steelers 11-10 win against San Diego. “It was time for me to do it,” Roethlisberger said. “I don’t like to say it’s time for us to do it because some of these guys have been doing it all year. It was time for me to step up and make some plays.”  He may not have it as easy as it appears on Thursday.  The Steelers have lost two of their last three home games against the Bengals.
SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Steelers at Home.

The Bengals are coming off a 13-13 tie against Philadelphia last week, the first tie in the NFL since 2002. “I don’t know if you pat yourself on the back or be mad,” Bengals defensive end Frostee Rucker said. “We came out here, played our hearts out and we didn’t lose, so we’ll just take it at that and strive to do better this Thursday night.”  The Bengals have played better of late thanks to quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick who is filling in for the injured Carson Palmer.  Fitzpatrick was 29-for-44 for a season-high 261 yards and a TD against the Eagles.  He will be facing a defense this week that is ranked #1 in the NFL. “They try to make you uncomfortable back there,” Fitzpatrick said, “And with their rush, and how hard they come sometimes, it’s uncomfortable. You’ve just got to make decisions and get the ball out.”

Here are the NFL betting stats for Thursday’s game. The Bengals are 9-0 ATS in their last 9 games in Week 12. The Bengals are 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 games in November. The Bengals are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. the AFC North. The road team is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between the two teams.

The Steelers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games in November. The Steelers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games in Week 12. The Steelers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.

SBG Global Current Line: Steelers  -  11   ,  Total  34.5

NFL Preseason Betting Preview
Detroit Lions at Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday, 7:30 pm Eastern

SBG Global Opening Line: Bengals   - 3.5  ,  Total  37.5

The Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals are known more for throwing the ball than running it.  Both teams are trying to change that image and will get another chance to do so as they meet in Cincinnati on Sunday in Week 2 preseason action.  The Lions won last week in Week 1 preseason play against the New York Giants 13-10 while the Bengals upset the Green Bay Packers 20-17. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Bengals at Home.

Detroit head coach Rod Marinelli is really stressing the running game this preseason.  Although starting quarterback Jon Kitna was 4-4 last week with a touchdown pass, it was the running game that concerned Marinelli. “It’s like pounding the rock,” he said, “You keep swinging if it’s not breaking. And some guys cry about it, ‘Oh, it’s not going to break, it’s not going to break.’ Well, we’re going to break it and you just keep working at it.”  Rookie running back Kevin Smith had eight carries for 22 yards.  The first string offense is expected to play into the second quarter this week against the Bengals.  Kitna will be followed at quarterback by Dan Orlovsky who played well last week going 8-11 for 81 yards.

SBG Global Current Line: Bengals   - 3.5   ,  Total  36.5

The Bengals first string offense was sluggish last week against Green Bay but finally put a touchdown on the board before leaving in the second quarter. Quarterback Carson Palmer completed 5-of-9 passes for 33 yards including a 14-yard touchdown pass to Ben Utecht.  It is expected that Palmer will play into the second quarter on Sunday.  Running back Rudi Johnson did not play last week but could see action on Sunday.  His replacement, running back Chris Perry looked excellent and the Bengals are talking about Perry sharing time with Johnson in the backfield this season.  Perry had 11 carries for 42 yards last week.  Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh did not play last week against Green Bay and is doubtful on Sunday. Following Carson Palmer on Sunday will be the continuing battle for the backup quarterback position between Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jeff Rowe and Jordan Palmer, younger brother of Carson.

NFL betting stats show that the Bengals have an 18-16 lead in their all-time preseason series with Detroit.  Last season the Lions pulled out a 27-26 home win in the preseason against Cincinnati.

NFL Preseason Betting Preview
Cincinnati Bengals at Green Bay Packers
Monday, 8:00 pm Eastern – ESPN

SBG Global Opening Line: Packers  - 3 ,  Total  36

The Brett Favre era at Green Bay is over and the Packers will start life without him on Monday as they host the Cincinnati Bengals in preseason action.  Favre was traded to the New York Jets late on Wednesday so the Packers spotlight now moves to quarterback Aaron Rodgers. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Bengals on the Road.

The Packers will probably have Rodgers playing a lot more than Cincinnati’s Carson Palmer. The starters for Cincinnati are expected to go a couple of series on Monday. “We’ll evaluate that and see. Generally they’ll go 10 or 15, somewhere between those number of snaps.” Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said, “But we’ll see how it goes.”  Lewis was looking forward to playing the Packers. “It’s going to be good and I told our team it’s a great atmosphere. It’s always great to go to Lambeau Field, but going into this deal with this weekend on Monday night and the whole thing they’re dealing with up there, obviously a lot of the questions this week as we meet with the network people are going to be about that.”  The Bengals have a new defensive coordinator in Mike Zimmer and he will look to get after Rodgers and the Green Bay offense immediately on Monday. Last year the Bengals were 27th in the league in yards, so they will be looking to make big improvements this season.

SBG Global Current Line: Packers  - 3 ,  Total  36

Here is a look at the NFL betting stats for Monday’s game.  The Packers and Bengals have met 15 times in preseason play.  The Bengals have a 10-4-1 edge in preseason action against the Packers and have won the last four meetings.  The teams have met only once in the preseason since 1991 as the Bengals won at home in 2006 by a score of 48-17.  At Green Bay the teams have split four preseason meetings.  The teams also played five games at Milwaukee and the teams split the matchups with one tie. The regular season series between the two teams is tied at 5-5.
