The sports world always gives me plenty of things to rant about but this week they have gone the extra mile. This week I rant about Donte Stallworth and the commissioner, Plaxico Burress, and while Twitter is changing the sports world.
It was announced today that NFL Commissioner Roger Godell will do what the justice system did not, punish Donte Stallworth. The NFL suspended the Cleveland Brown wide receiver indefinitely and he will not be paid during the suspension. Stallworth pleaded guilty this month to a DUI manslaughter charge for striking Mario Reyes on March 14 in Florida. He has already started his 30 day jails sentence for the crime, and although there was a list of other punishments, the sentence was a joke. I know this NFL suspension will be appealed and maybe even over turned this year but at least the commissioner is taking this seriously, something the courts forgot to do.
It looks like the commissioner will have a busy week ahead of him as next he has to decide on the fate of Ex-New York Giants wide receiver, Plaxico Burress. There is a good chance he will have to let him play since the courts have not fond him guilty of anything yet and the Giants looked the other way on this one. The question is do you want him on your team? The rumors are flying that the Bears want him and that Jay Cutler sent him a text telling him to sign with the Bears. Cutler denies that he texted Plaxico, but it might be an interesting fit. The problem is this would be at best a one year rental and the guy is a wreck in the locker room and a horrible teammate. Tim Hasslebeck played with Plaxico and he had this to say about the troubled wide receiver. “I played with the guy. I was in the locker room with him for two years. He’s a disaster as a teammate. He’s a disaster as a guy that you have to coach.” Why take a chance on a guy like this? I say let him sit out a year but you know that won’t happen.
Lastly it’s hard to go throughout a day without hearing abut Twitter in the sports world. This week was no exception as Kevin Love scooped the media and his front office by announcing that head coach Kevin McHale was not coming back to the Timber wolves next year. I know it’s the new thing to do and even I have a Twitter account (@MRegaw) but the sports world better adjust. Kevin Love meant no harm and was sad to see him go but he made his management look bad. Kevin McHale did plenty for this franchise and deserved better than this as well. My suggestion to T’Wolves owner Glen Taylor is to open a Twitter account and change with the times!

NFL Betting Preview
Green Bay Packers (5-9) at Chicago Bears (8-6)
Monday, 8:35 pm Eastern – ESPN
SBG Global Opening Line: Bears - 4.5 , Total 42
The Chicago Bears will be trying to keep their playoff hopes alive on Monday night as they host the Green Bay Packers. The Bears trail the Vikings by one game in the NFC North but they lose the tiebreaker against the Vikings, so Minnesota only needs to win either this week against Atlanta or next week against the New York Giants to clinch the division. Chicago is also in the Wild Card race with Dallas, Tampa Bay, Atlanta and Philadelphia. The Bears should be motivated on Monday regardless of the situation since the Packers beat them like a drum last month in Green Bay.
SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Bears at Home.
The Bears may have been humiliated 37-3 against Green Bay last month but since that time Chicago has won three of their last four while the Packers have lost four in a row to fall out of the playoff race. The Packers have blown fourth quarter leads in their last three losses and has given up 79 points in their last three games.
Chicago is coming off an overtime win over New Orleans last Thursday that kept their playoff hopes alive. Chicago running back Matt Forte is expected to be ready on Monday after missing part of last week’s game with an injured toe. Forte needs 69 yards to break Anthony Thomas’ team rookie rushing record set in 2001.
Chicago has won six of the past nine games against Green Bay. The teams have split their last four games at Chicago. Here are more NFL betting stats for Monday’s game. The Packers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. the NFC North.
The Packers are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games as a road underdog. The Packers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Packers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 meetings in Chicago.
The Bears are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games in December. The Bears are 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games as a home favorite.
SBG Global Current Line: Bears - 4 , Total 41
The Over is 6-1 in the Packers last 7 vs. the NFC North. The Over is 5-1-1 in the Packers last 7 games as a road underdog. The Over is 9-2-1 in the Packers last 12 road games. The Over is 22-8-1 in the Packers last 31 games overall. The Over is 7-3 in the Packers last 10 Monday games.
The Over is 17-4 in the Bears last 21 games as a home favorite. The Over is 28-11-1 in the Bears last 40 vs. the NFC. The Over is 9-4 in the Bears last 13 games in December.

NFL Betting Preview
New Orleans Saints (7-6) at Chicago Bears (7-6)
Thursday, 8:15 pm Eastern – NFL Network
SBG Global Opening Line: Bears - 3 , Total 44
The playoffs may not be here yet but Thursday night might as well be a playoff game for the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears. Both teams are at 7-6 and in virtual must-win situations. The Bears have the better chance of making the playoffs simply because they are in the NFC North and only trail Minnesota by one game. The Saints are in the NFC South and are virtually out of contention for the division so they need to qualify for the playoffs with a Wild Card. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Bears at Home.
The Saints have not had much success recently at Soldier Field, losing the NFC Championship game two years ago and last year in their final game of the season. The weather could be a factor on Thursday which means the running games for both teams will be important. The Saints definitely look better in that category as they have Reggie Bush healthy again and a newcomer named Pierre Thomas. The Saints rushed for a season-high 184 yards in a 29-25 win over Atlanta last week. Thomas has rushed for 311 yards and four touchdowns in his last four games. “He catches people off balance because you see him in the backfield and he doesn’t look like a big, massive physical running back, but that’s exactly how he plays,” Saints receiver Lance Moore said about Thomas. “He just makes plays and that’s a credit to how hard he’s worked.”
On the other side of the ball the Bears will look to Matt Forte who has 1,476 yards from scrimmage this season to break Gale Sayers’ record for a Bear’s rookie. “I couldn’t even imagine coming in and going past Gale Sayers’ yards as a rookie,” Forte said. “I really don’t even look at stats. I just go out there and play.”
Here are the NFL betting stats for Thursday’s game. The Saints are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Saints are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The underdog is 5-2-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between the two teams.
The Bears are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in December. The Bears are 4-9-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
SBG Global Current Line: Bears - 3 , Total 45
The Over is 7-0 in the Saints last 7 games in December. The Over is 13-4-1 in the Saints last 18 games overall. The Under is 4-1 in the Bears last 5 games overall. The Over is 19-7 in the Bears last 26 home games. The Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Chicago between the two teams.
Pick: Saints 3 out of 5 units

NFL Betting Preview
Chicago Bears (6-5) at Minnesota Vikings (6-5)
Sunday, 8:15 pm Eastern – NBC
SBG Global Opening Line: Vikings - 3.5 , Total 42
The top spot in the NFC North is on the line Sunday night as the Chicago Bears visit the Minnesota Vikings. Both teams won last week to move a game in front of the Green Bay Packers. The game may be more critical to the Vikings considering the remaining schedule for each team. The Bears have three of their four remaining games at home and all look winnable against Jacksonville, New Orleans and Green Bay. Their one remaining road game is also winnable at Houston. The Vikings have a much tougher slate although next week’s game against Detroit looks like a win. Minnesota finishes at Arizona, home against Atlanta and home against the Giants. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Vikings at Home.
This could be an offensive shootout on Sunday night. The Vikings have Adrian Peterson leading their offense and a suddenly efficient passing attack with Gus Frerotte. The Bears can also run the ball effectively with Matt Forte and Kyle Orton is capable of making big plays. The Bears outscored the Vikings in their earlier meeting this season 48-41. The Bears are averaging 316.4 yards per game and Minnesota is averaging 321.4 yards per game.
Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 13. The Bears are 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games following a win. The Bears are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings between the two teams.
The Vikings are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall. The Vikings are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games. The Vikings are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 vs. the NFC North. The home team is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings between the two teams.
SBG Global Current Line: Vikings - 3.5 , Total 42
The Under is 7-0 in the Bears last 7 road games. The Under is 5-2 in the Bears last 7 games overall. The Over is 26-11-1 in the Bears last 38 vs. the NFC. The Over is 5-1 in the Vikings last 6 games in November. The Over is 4-1 in the Vikings last 5 games overall. The Over is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings between the two teams.
Pick: Vikes 2 out of 5 units
Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) at Chicago Bears (1-2)
Sunday, 8:15 pm Eastern – NBC
SBG Global Opening Line: Eagles - 3 , Total 43
The NBC game on Sunday night has the 1-2 Chicago Bears hosting the 2-1 Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles come into the game banged up but quarterback Donovan McNabb and running back Brian Westbrook are both expected to play. Westbrook missed much of last week’s game and it showed as the Eagles only scored 15 points in their win over Pittsburgh. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Eagles on the Road.
The Bears have blown double-digit leads in losing their last two games.
“It’s frustrating, but also there are positives in that you see the potential that we have,” defensive tackle Tommie Harris said, “We’re not just getting blown out. sThe Bears defense is allowing only 71.3 yards per game and 3.4 yards per carry. The Eagles defense is even better against the run holding teams to 45.7 rushing yards per game.
Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Eagles are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. the NFC. The Eagles are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 4. The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The road team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between the two teams.
SBG Global Current Line: Eagles - 3 , Total 40
The Bears are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Bears are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 home games. The Bears are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 4. The Bears are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games in September. The underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between the two teams.
The Over is 5-1 in the Eagles last 6 road games. The Under is 5-2 in the Eagles last 7 games in September. The Under is 5-2 in the Eagles last 7 games overall.
The Over is 20-6-1 in the Bears last 27 vs. the NFC. The Over is 16-5 in the Bears last 21 home games. The Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between the two teams.

NFL Preseason Betting Preview
San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears
Thursday, 8:00 pm Eastern – FOX
SBG Global Opening Line: Bears - 5 , Total 35
The Chicago Bears will start Kyle Orton at quarterback this season and his first test as the main man comes in Thursday’s preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. Orton won the job over Rex Grossman, although neither player was overwhelming in their play this preseason. Orton is 12-6 as a starting quarterback for the Bears in his three seasons. “To come to a decision like that, we’ve taken a lot of things into consideration—last year, how we finished the season, OTAs, training camp, preseason games,” head coach Lovie Smith said. “In the end it comes down to a gut feeling that you have, and I feel good about Kyle leading our team.”
SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Bears at Home.
Chicago will get a long look at their new starting quarterback on Thursday as the Bears are expected to play their starters into the third quarter. “I think I’ve continued to get better in the preseason, so this will be another step to take.” Orton said, “We’ll get a lot more playing time this week and just try to get ready for Indianapolis (season opener).” Orton was just barely better than Grossman in the first two preseason games. His quarterback rating was 63.2 compared to Grossman’s 56.5. Those numbers tell you how poorly the quarterbacks in Chicago really have been in recent seasons.
SBG Global Current Line: Bears - 3 , Total 37
While the Bears have settled on a starting quarterback heading into Thursday’s game, the 49ers have not. Head coach Mike Nolan said that all three quarterbacks will get a similar amount of playing time on Thursday with J.T. O’Sullivan starting followed by Alex Smith and Shaun Hill.
“The quarterback rotation will be the same for Chicago on Thursday. We have a short week to prepare, and I want to keep the team focused on the Bears,” said Nolan. “The starters will most likely play the first half, with the second unit coming in during the third quarter.”
NFL betting stats show that the two teams have met in preseason action the last three years with the Bears winning two of the three games including both home games. Two of the three games went over the total. The teams have met four times since 2001 in regular season play with Chicago winning four of the five matchups.
