United States soccer has had many highs and lows over the course of the last decade, but none would be higher than a victory to assure qualification into the second round of the World Cup against Algeria, who still has a chance to make it out of Group C in World Cup betting action as well.

Manager Bob Bradley has to be thrilled with the way that three of the four halves of soccer have gone for his team. The Americans stuck around with mighty England for the full 90 minutes and earned a deserved draw for their efforts. In theory, the draw felt as good as a win for the USA. However, a 2-2 draw against Slovenia probably felt as good as a loss, as it was certainly an opportunity missed for the Stars and Stripes. Now, three points from Algeria is a virtual must, unless Slovenia holds England to a draw. A loss will knock the United States out of its second straight World Cup prematurely. Bradley has a ton of questions to answer about his starting 11 for this match. When he subbed in both Benny Feilhaber and Maurice Edu, the tactics of the American lineup changed drastically. All of a sudden, what started as a lousy, uninspired match turned into one of a frantic tempo, which created a ton of opportunities in Slovenian territory. Three minutes into the second half, M Landon Donovan struck for his first goal of this tournament. Another change in the 80th minute from F Hercules Gomez on the pitch. Just two minutes later, Bradley’s change turned to gold, as Gomez helped set up his son, Michael Bradley, for what resulted in the match tying goal. F Jozy Altidore thought he sent the USA to a very improbable come from behind victory in the dying moments, but a questionable call erased a goal and ended the match on level terms.

Level terms was a great result for Algeria against England, especially after the late defeat to the Slovenians in the first match day of this group. The Desert Foxes probably thought that they were as good as finished heading into the second match, but a valiant defensive effort resulted in the draw. There haven’t really been a slew of offensive opportunities for the African nation, and that is going to have to change if it has any hope of getting through to the Round of 16. Only a win will suffice, and a multiple goal victory will ensure qualification regardless of what happens in the England/Slovenia match going on at the same time.
Algeria’s offense issues are going to play into the hands of the Americans. A draw could be good enough if the Slovenians hold on against England for a point. A scoreless result could leave for a hairy moment or two, as a 2-2 draw or one with more goals for the Three Lions will put the US in trouble. Expect to see an offensive showcase for a full 90 minutes for the Americans, who are playing with a ton of moment. The Stars and Stripes should get through to the Round of 16 with a ‘W’ over Algeria.
