Berdych is arguably playing the best tennis of his career right now, and it has shown in back to back Grand Slam events. He was a semifinalist at Roland Garros for the French Open, and now he is at that juncture once again here in London. This was the fifth straight year that the Czech native had reached at least the third round, but was only the second time ever that he had reached the quarters. This is just the second Grand Slam semifinal in his career. A slew of unranked players went quietly into the night at the hands of Berdych before reaching the quarterfinals. It was there that the upset of the tournament on the men’s side of the draw took place. Berdych was flat out dominating at times against the top ranked player in the world, six time Wimbledon champion, Roger Federer. The Czech stormed through to the semis in four sets, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 for arguably the biggest ‘W’ of his career.

The whole world has been waiting for Novak Djokovic to finally claim his second Grand Slam title, and this might be the best chance that he has ever had at doing so. The top Serbian player in the world has now reached the quarterfinals of five straight Grand Slam events and has done so in 12 of his L/14 majors as well. Djokovic has only played in two finals in his illustrious career, finishing the runner up at the 2007 US Open and winning the ’08 Australian Open. Here at Wimbledon, Djokovic has been a semifinalist once before, losing in 2007 at this level. Last year, he was a quarterfinals before bowing out. However, none of this almost came to be for the Serb, as he needed to rally from behind two sets to one to veteran Belgian Oliver Rochus in the opening round of this tournament. From that point forward though, he has only dropped one set in the dismissal of Taylor Dent, Albert Montanes, Lleyton Hewitt, and Yen-Hsun Lu.

For Berdych, upsetting Federer had to feel like winning the Super Bowl. Does he really have the goods to be able to rebound and take down one of the hungriest players on the ATP Tour? In all likelihood, the answer is no. This is a fantastic price that we are getting on the better seed in this tournament, and we thoroughly expect to see Djokovic get through in no more than four sets to set up one of the biggest matches of his career on Sunday.
