Week 9 NFL Betting: Miami Dolphins vs. Baltimore Ravens

Miami Dolphins
(4-3, 5-2 ATS)

Baltimore Ravens
(5-2, 3-3-1 ATS)

The Miami Dolphins have the best road record in the NFL at 4-0 SU and ATS, but that’s all going to be challenged in a big time way by the Baltimore Ravens in one of the key games on the Week 9 schedule in the NFL.

Every time we try to write off the Dolphins, they turn around and win a game that it looks like they have no business winning. Last week’s ‘W’ against the Cincinnati Bengals was one of those games, especially knowing that the hosts had everything on the line in that one. If the Fins can get out of these next two games (next week is home vs. the Tennessee Titans), the schedule gets significantly easier from here and a push for the playoffs could be on. The Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, and Detroit Lions are all still on the slate, and wins in all of those games would probably leave them with ten wins and in a great spot to challenge for one of the six spots in the second season in the AFC. The ground game isn’t really “struggling” this year, but RB Ronnie Brown and RB Ricky Williams combining for 729 yards in seven games isn’t exactly what the doctor ordered. QB Chad Henne is proving that he is the real deal this year, as he is completing 63.4 percent of his passes this year for 1,669 yards and eight scores against seven picks. WRs Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess have done well this year, as the two are coming up on 1,000 yards and 100 receptions between them on the season.

The Ravens are coming off of their bye week, and they are getting healthy as well. S Ed Reed will be back in the lineup this week, and that means bad news for opposing offenses. WR Donte Stallworth is going to be back as well, though his place in this offense is questionable considering that WR TJ Houshmanzadeh has nailed down the third receiver spot that he was brought to this team to fill. The Baltimore defense went almost 2.5 games without giving up a touchdown this year, but these last two games against the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills were terrible. The Ravens allowed 57 points in two games, and they are sure to want to make amends for their past sins. Unlike Miami, Baltimore has a horrifying schedule coming up, as all but one team on the schedule from now until Christmas is against teams that could be making the playoffs. Offensively, we love what QB Joe Flacco has done this year. Flacco has thrown for 1,651 yards and ten TDs versus six picks this year, and he has really played better ball since a very shaky start to the year. WR Anquan Boldin is the real deal as well, as the Florida State standout has 38 catches, 518 yards, and five TDs in 2010.

The easy thing to do is to take Miami just because it makes perfect sense. The Dolphins seem to have made a living out of winning these road games when no one thinks that they have a shot. Now that the rest of the world thinks the upset is coming, and there’s a point that a pick becomes so sharp that it’s square. Stay away from the trendy selection here and go with the gritty Ravens.
