We know that Dallas isn’t going to the playoffs this year, but this is one of the few teams that we know we can trust to finish up the season strong. Head Coach Jason Garrett has done a fantastic job with this team, going 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS since taking over for the departed Wade Phillips, and he wants to make sure that he keeps his job for the future as well. The defense has really struggled in recent weeks, allowing at least 30 points in four straight games, and you can bet that this side of the ball will be addressed in the offseason by Owner Jerry Jones. However, the offense has done more than enough to make up for it in spite of the fact that QB Tony Romo has been out of the fold. Dallas has scored at least 27 points in all six games in the Garrett era, something that doesn’t figure to stop in these final two games of the year. QB Jon Kitna has thrown for 2,250 yards and 15 TDs in roughly half of a season as a starter, and he has a pair of receivers that think they are reaching the 1,000 yard plateau. WR Miles Austin has 61 catches for 864 yards and six scores this year, while TE Jason Witten has 82 grabs for 911 yards and seven scores.
Meanwhile, Arizona is a train wreck, and after losing to the Carolina Panthers on the road, there are just too many questions for Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt to answer. QB Derek Anderson was ineffective all season long, QB Max Hall didn’t get the job done either, and now, QB John Skelton isn’t doing any better. Skelton will get the nod again, but the rook from Fordham has some growing to do to stay in this league. He has thrown for just 387 yards with no scores in three games, but the good news is that, unlike Hall and Anderson, he’s at least not throwing a ton of picks. Still, WR Larry Fitzgerald is getting noticeably more and more upset with his situation in the desert. The former Pitt Panther does have 986 yards, but he probably won’t be going to the Pro Bowl this year. Defensively, things really aren’t going any better. Allowing 373.8 yards and 26.4 points per game are ranking No. 27 and No. 29 in the league respectively.
Even though Arizona has played significantly better ball at home than on the road, we just don’t see how this one is going to happen. The Cowboys are legit, and they should have no trouble making mincemeat out of the Redbirds, giving them a great Christmas night delight for their NFL bettors.
