Washington Redskins vs. Tennessee Titans Free Pick, Trends, and Preview

Washington Redskins
(4-5, 4-4-1 ATS)

Tennessee Titans
(5-4, 5-4 ATS)

Two teams that are just barely hanging on to their playoff positioning in their respective conferences meet at LP Field for an NFL wagering war on Sunday, as the Tennessee Titans play host to the Washington Redskins.

If you take the fourth quarter from the game against the Detroit Lions and the first three quarters from the duel against the Philadelphia Eagles, the ‘Skins allowed a whopping 82 points in a span of three quarters and just over three minutes of action. In fairness, the offense did allow a pair of those TDs against them, but still, this type of defense is inexcusable. Washington has the worst defense in the NFL overall at 415.3 yards per game, and it has allowed at least 27 points five times in nine games on the campaign. It is still up in the air whether RB Clinton Portis or RB Ryan Torain will be playing on Sunday, and if neither does, it will once again be up to RB Keiland Williams to tote the rock. That means there will be even more pressure on QB Donovan McNabb to perform. McNabb has thrown for 2,266 yards in his first year playing in our nation’s capitol, but he has only tossed nine TDs against 11 picks. Last week was the first time all season long in which he threw for more than one TD pass in a game, but obviously, when the first one comes when you’re down 35-0 in the second quarter, there’s not much positive to discuss.

If the Titans could ever get some consistent play from their quarterbacks, this would be a fantastic squad. However, right now, they would be on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, and they know that their best route to the playoffs is going to be winning the AFC South and taking down the mighty Indianapolis Colts. So far this year, QB Vince Young has thrown ten TDs against three picks, but he has only thrown for 1,090 yards in eight games. As always, RB Chris Johnson is the man to watch when the Titans are on offense. He’s not quite on pace for a 400 carry season as he was at the outset of the year, but Johnson will still touch the pigskin at least 20 times almost for certain again on Sunday. So far this year, he has managed 838 yards and nine scores. Defensively, DE Jason Babin has seven sacks, while his counterpart, DE Dave Ball has six. This is one of the most ferocious pass rushes in the NFL, and if the Titans can get to McNabb, it’ll be all over but the crying for Washington.

Just give us something, VY! Anything that we can get from Young will only make our case for taking the Titans all the better. Regardless of what Young does though, we know that McNabb and his men are in a lot of trouble, as they just aren’t ready to compete at this level quite yet in the first year for HC Mike Shanahan.
