The Yankees will try and get a split in their four game series against Tampa Bay on Monday as Mike Mussina faces Jason Hammel.  The Yankees rotation has struggled, other than Chien-Ming Wang who won yesterday.  Mussina did not pitch well in his first start, giving up four runs in 5 2/3 innings last week against Toronto in a 5-2 loss.  He has been great though in his career against Tampa Bay.  He is 7-1 with a 1.96 ERA at home against the Rays. If the Yankees can get a game into the eighth inning with the lead, it is over.  Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera have been virtually untouchable this season.  They have pitched seven innings between them and given up only two hits.  That great bullpen work has been needed because the Yankees have not hit the ball much.  They have only 17 runs in their first six games. “You’re going to have those weeks,” manager Joe Girardi said. “We got enough today and that’s what matters. This offense will break out.”

Tampa Bay will go with Jason Hammel on Monday for his first start of the season.  Overall he has not had much success as a starter but he did win last year against New York in Yankee Stadium when he pitched five innings and gave up only one earned run.
