Potential postseason combatants collide on the big stage at Sun Life Stadium on Sunday afternoon in NFL betting action, as the Tennessee Titans meet the Miami Dolphins.
The Titans know that they can really put the clamps on a playoff spot for the time being if they can win this one, as they would at very least stay in a tie atop the AFC South with the Indianapolis Colts. Offensively, we know that this is a one man show, as RB Chris Johnson is the heart and soul of the team. However, opposing teams know that as well, and they have been keying in on him over the course of the year. The man that rushed for 2,006 yards a year ago only has 721 this year with eight TDs. However, after running the ball 178 times over the first half of the season and 358 times last year, we have to wonder how much longer Johnson is going to hold up. QB Vince Young once again doesn’t have the most impressive numbers in the world, as he has only thrown for 998 yards and nine TDs on the season, but he is taking care of the pigskin and only has two picks. VY isn’t using his legs nearly as much as he has in past years either, as he only has 20 carries for 91 yards.
HC Tony Sparano decided that a 4-4 record wasn’t good enough for the first half of the season, and it appears, at least for the time being, that his new man in charge of his offense is QB Chad Pennington, the man that took his team from a 1-15 campaign one year to the AFC East title in 2008. Pennington hasn’t thrown a pass in nearly two full season’s worth of games, so he is clearly going to need the help of his running backs in this one. RB Ronnie Brown and RB Ricky Williams have only combined for 796 yards in the first half of the season, numbers that just aren’t good enough for tandem of backs that should both be capable of rumbling for 1,000 yards over the course of the year. The good news for Pennington and the offense is that there are some fantastic receiving options on this team. WR Davone Bess has really emerged from nowhere this year, as he has 44 catches for 451 yards and three TDs. However, even though he only has one TD reception, WR Brandon Marshall has 52 grabs for 618 yards and has been a huge part of the offense.
It is will publicized that the Fins just don’t play well at home, as they are already 1-2 ATS and 0-3 SU on the season at Sun Life Stadium. However, this is the best matchup that they have had all year against a Tennessee team that is built to defend against long passing games. As long as Sparano keeps the offense relatively simple and lets Pennington get the ball out of his hands in a hurry, we think that Miami is going to find a way into the win column in a crucial spot.
NFL Free Pick: Miami Dolphins +1.5
