Suns hot out West
The Phoenix Suns have a lot to play for Wednesday night when they host the San Antonio Spurs. Here’s the latest from BroburySports.com:
Phoenix is a 6 ½-point home favorite at BroburySports. ESPN will broadcast at 10:30 pm ET.
Phoenix is 50-27 straight-up (44-32-1 ATS) and battling Dallas, Denver and Utah for second place in the West Conference. The difference between second and fifth place is huge.
In second place, you get to avoid the Lakers in a potential second-round series. In fifth place, you don’t even get home court advantage in the first round.
The Suns have done everything in their power to move up in the standings. They had a 10-game winning (7-2-1 ATS) streak before losing at Milwaukee (107-98) on Saturday.
Phoenix had been burning up the nets, averaging 118.7 PPG the seven games before Milwaukee. You can’t blame them for being tired as that was the last game of a five-game trip.
They’re now well rested after having a rare three days off.
San Antonio (48-29 SU, 42-34-1 ATS) is currently tied with Oklahoma City for sixth place in the West. Portland is just one game back. No one wants to end in eighth place and open with L.A.
The Spurs played last night at the Sacramento Kings, winning 95-86. Tim Duncan was held to 10 points, but had 10 rebounds. Manu Ginobili had 16 points and he’s been playing great of late.
The Spurs ‘covered’ as 7 ½-point favorites and are 4-0 ATS in their last four games.
Point guard Tony Parker was cleared to play after missing the past month with a broken hand. He played 16 minutes and that was extremely important as George Hill was out with an ankle injury. He’s expected to miss tonight too.
San Antonio can win with either Hill or Parker out, but it’s really hard with both. Look for Parkers’ minutes to increase.
Note the Spurs are playing a back-to-back game, which they’re 7-8 ATS.
Our Take: Suns dominate at home as the Spurs feel the road lag.
