Stanley Cup Finals Betting: Chicago Blackhawks vs. Philadelphia Flyers Game 3

#2 Chicago Blackhawks

#7 Philadelphia Flyers

Blackhawks Lead Series 2-0

Two games of Stanley Cup betting action down, and two victories are in the books for the Chicago Blackhawks. They’ll hope to take one more step towards capturing Lord Stanley’s Cup on Wednesday night when they tangle with the Philadelphia Flyers in the City of Brotherly Love.

G Antti Niemi has rebounded nicely after two very bad periods of hockey against the Flyers to start this series. He has only conceded one goal in his L/4 periods of action and is very much so a big part of the reason that the Hawks are up 2-0 in this series. What’s all the more impressive for Chicago is the fact that neither C Jonathan Toews nor RW Patrick Kane have contributed to a goal yet in this series. The two were expected to be all over the ice against the Flyers, but the two are still just a combined -5 with no points in the series. The Blackhawks are getting great play from RW Marian Hossa, as he has a goal and two assists in the two victories at home.

G Michael Leighton made HC Peter Laviolette look like a genius for starting him over G Brian Boucher in Game 2, but the two goals that Leighton allowed, though solid, were too many to pick up a much needed road victory. Leighton will most likely be the man tabbed with the job of trying to keep the Philly net clean, but don’t be surprised if he gets yanked in favor of Boucher if times get rough. LW Simon Gagne had a huge series against Montreal, scoring three goals in the five games, and he got off to mark in the Stanley Cup by lighting the lamp on the power play in the third period on Monday night. The leading point scorer on th team coming into this series, C Mike Richards, only has one assist to show for two games worth of work.

This has been a very resilient Philadelphia team in these playoffs, and we’re not going to count it out just yet in this series. Chicago has looked like the better team to this point, but the Flyers are going to give it everything that they’ve got to try to cut this series deficit in half in what basically could amount to be a do-or-die game.
