Philadelphia Eagles at San Diego Chargers Preview
NFL Football Betting Preview
Philadelphia Eagles (5-3) at San Diego Chargers (5-3)
Sunday November 15th, 4:15PM Eastern
Betus.com betting line – Chargers -1, 47 O/U
The Philadelphia Eagles appeared to be possibly the best team in the NFC a few weeks back blowing out the Giants 40-17, but quickly had a reality check a week later falling to the Cowboys at home last week 20-16. The Eagles now trail the Cowboys by one game in the NFC East and attempt to get back in rhythm this week as they travel way out west to take on the San Diego Chargers. San Diego jumped out to a sluggish 2-3 start this season before battling back with 3 straight wins including a 21-20 victory over the Giants last week. The Chargers will look to keep the momentum alive this Sunday as they continue their climb back up the AFC ladder. However, this will be a rare out of conference game this weekend as we will see how they stack up against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Chargers offense is still waiting for their running game to pick up. Tailback LaDainian Tomlinson is averaging just 3.2 yards per carry and leads the team with a pitiful 289 yards on the season. Tomlinson missed some time due to injury, but has still been anything but stellar since being back. Of course tailback Darren Sproles has not been any better with just 170 yards and 1 score on the season. However, QB Philip Rivers has carried the offense through the passing game. Rivers is completing 61% on the season and recorded 2,246 yards with 14 touchdowns on the year. Most of all the damage accomplished through the air has come from help of wide outs Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates. Both guys have caught 42 passes a piece on the season, but Jackson has really been impressive with 722 yards and 7 touchdowns. The Eagles secondary has held opponents to a respectable 204 yards per game, but if the Chargers are to thrill the home crowd they will need Rivers and Jackson to hook up frequently.
The Eagles have a big playmaker by the last name of Jackson as well. WR DeSean Jackson is really coming on as a big play threat averaging 20.4 yards per catch with 4 scores. Jackson really has the speed that must be respected and will be a focus for the Chargers defense that ranks 5th against the passing allowing just 179 yards per game. QB Donovan McNabb will be the guy responsible for the Eagles offensive success considering the running game has been fairly inconsistent. However, McNabb has been pretty solid throwing 10 touchdowns with only 3 picks. The offense has been hot and cold at time in terms of points, but they are very dangerous when firing on all cylinders. The San Diego defense could prevent any 40 point blowouts from occurring and the entire game may actually be controlled by both defenses. The Eagles will need a player to step up and make some big things happen in what is expected to be a nail bitter.
Betus.com opened the betting lines favoring the Chargers by a single point and that line has held its position all week. The betting public is also favoring the Chargers 2 to 1 heading into week 10. The over/under total is also getting a lot of attention. Both teams have the perception of elite offenses, but in reality the defenses have really been the key to success in their wins. However, the betting public is not siding with the defenses as nearly 85% is playing on the over 47 total. Some interesting betting lines to consider for the event include San Diego who is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against the Eagles. The Chargers are also 15-5 SU at home in their last 20 games. Philadelphia is 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games on the road and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
Pick – Defenses keep this game extremely low
